I'm looking to get into owning gerbils so I am trying to do in depth research first and I was wondering, are you able to double or triple this recipe and have the percentages be the same. Like how you added 100 grams of one ingredient would you be able to do 200 instead and keep all of the other ingredients doubled as well to have more feed that you dont have to mix or purchase as often or is it better to keep it all at these measurements you have listed?

With the protein, fat and fibre percentage - is that in the overall diet or daily/weekly/monthly intake? Im trying to make my own gerbil food mix but all of the weights of the seeds turned out to be around 10-15g, whereas your were mostly 50-200g! Am I doing the fat, fibre and protein intake wrong?

As for the dried herbs, can you elaborate on these at all? What are they? Are they for pets or do you use dried herbs that were intended for seasoning? I'm always worried I'll give them something they shouldn't eat.

Someone at our local pet store said flax seeds are poisonous to gerbils and I was trying to buy them. I do not believe they are but please tell me if they are, I was also going to buy my gerbils some flax stalks. Are they poisonous???

I really want to make this mix! I think I'm going to feed my gerbils science selective nuggets as well as this mix so I know they are getting all they need along with forage and fresh veggies and fruits. I got most of my ingredients off rat rations it's a really good site! I was wondering though it says baby gerbils need more protein. Is there something you would suggest to supplement them or maybe alter this mix a little?

When you said that it needs 10 grams of whole wheat pasta, after that it saided ”added iron, vitamin B1-3, & folic acid!” Did you meen that it needs to have those ingridients or did you mean that it can’t contain those ingridients? I am from Sweden so my English is not the best so i did’nt understand what it meant.

hi! i dont use any pet forums, so im not sure where else to ask this. if anyone can help me at all, please reply. my gerbil (lone for a few months now) has a growth in his ear which restricted his nerve and caused a lot of the muscle in his left jaw to shrink. this made it a lot harder for him to chew, and he is losing weight because he can’t eat his normal dried mix. i recieved some liquid food from the vet which you can mix to be very liquidy, or just mushy, but my gerbil wont eat any liquid or mushy food other than banana. the only foods he will eat are seeds, if i half peel the shell (he cant crack them himself anymore), fruits and some vegetables like peas and sweetcorn, and i know this isnt healthy to feed him every day but it is all he will eat. does anyone have an idea for a daily mix i could get him, or ingredients to make my own mix that he will be able to eat? it has to be sort of in the middle in texture, neither hard or soft. i want to give him the best quality of life for what he has remaining.

These are all great ingredients to “stretch” existing rodent diets with. Variety is a good thing to prevent nutritional deficits. Small seeds like sesame and quinoa will sink to the bottom while light things like dried veggies will come to the top of the container

Can hamsters have this too or just gerbils?

My gerbil will just eat the sunflower seeds and idk how to make him eat the other seeds.

I think the Trusted brands part was a bit problematic because Oxbow is mainly for Rabbits and Guinea pigs. Not gerbils or Hamsters

Don't use Millet seeds? Slightly surprised as its' common and one of their native foods, not that it really matters as you seemed to have made a great Gerbil food :). What do your little furry customers rate their restaurant like? ;)
