This is absolutely not a backhoe. Backhoes barely have 180° swing at best. And they are mounted on the back of another tractor. This is barely an excavator. It does not have motorized tracks or wheels under it. But it is a nice homemade project for very small jobs.

This is great! A fellow engineer I was an apprentice with showed me this video after I started describing the excavator I'm planning to make. We built a hovercraft from scratch in our apprentice school for our final project, and it worked lol. Well, like I was saying, when I started describing my plans for an excavator, he laughed and pulled up your vid, then asked me "oh, you mean like this one? Looks like someone beat you to it buddy. Lol!" I was admittedly a bit speechless, a bit frustrated, and most importantly, a double bit motivated. I was surprised how you went about it pretty much the same way I had planned, honestly you and I probably both think it wouldn't make sense any other way. So, I guess the situation is now I got to get one up on you Brother. I'm a tiny bit overwhelmed with other projects currently, but I'm determined to make it happen. Cheers Brother, thanks for the motivation and very good job!

Wow!! That is one very impressive, yet simple 'digger!!' Your attention to detail is outstanding!! Hooking the hydraulics up in series really 'cleans up' the hose routing. Very sharp and professional build, a good downbudget homebuild that could easily pass the glance check as a manufactured design. Small enough to put on a small trailer, and I could see value in adding a lawn tractor trailer hitch, which would also give you some counterweight for heavier cutting

really cool build! if you ever want to make the undercarriage moving on power, you could build it with electric weelchair wheels and a big lead battery inside and make it completely electric independent from the upper Arm and Seat unit. and then remote control it via a radio so you dont have to run ny cables from the engine down there... just my thought

Given that a sedan wheelbearing is working, an upgrade to a GM/chevy 2500/3500 front unit bearing would be great and solve your passthrough dilemma. It's WAY stronger - they use them on 6000lb/2700kg Ultra4 trucks with 40"/1meter tall tires at the King of the Hammers competition, has a 35mm pass through on the 33 spline version (the most common one), and are less than $100 new. I think it would be best to make the passthrough lines steel to fit as many as possible, or maybe just have 1 high pressure and 1 return, using control rods to actuate the valves. That would be very achievable through the 35mm hole, and being rods they can do both push and pull on 2 way valves.
