No, the wax seals the porcelain toilet to the flange, have done 3 toilets after reading the instructions! I buy two wax rings, one to use between toilet and flange, the other to rub on the bottom of the toilet before setting. Ensures a proper bond.

You can use a rubber ring but sorry I don't remember the size of the bolts.

I was afraid the holes I drilled may rust out. But yes my method will still properly seal. I did similar process in my upstair bathroom 7 years ago and still no problems.

It doesn't make sense to put the wax under the blue closet flange. I've had no problems. I did the same way in upstairs bathroom 7 years ago. No problems, no smells...all good.

I definitely think you got the wax ring backwards...

@@jonahvlogsdiy4143 I agree, we put the wax ring directly on top of any repair flange. That’s the way my journeyman plumbers taught us. I think you did great man. Sometimes those DIY kits are the ones with bad directions.

I stick with my decision.

Do whatever you think feels right so you don't have to go back and do it again.

You can use silicone instead of the wax when selling between the flanges. We do it all the time when using flange extenders.

There's conflict between plumbers where the wax ring should go. I had my house built and professional plumbers did my house. I just followed exactly how they did it. It's worked great and no problems so far.

Yes you're right but it didn't make sense to me. I thought it better to seal between the ceramic toilet and the new flange. it worked for me this way.

@@jonahvlogsdiy4143 The rubber gasket in the middle is what makes the seal when you tighten the screws, similar to the rubber washers on the water hose behind the toilet. I'm sure your way works fine and will last awhile, but I wonder how long the caulk you applied in between the flanges will last. That is the area that requires the most sealing because of the uneven surfaces. Anyways. It is a good video that you made, especially checking on the tank bolts. One day I woke up with 1/2 inch water in my bathroom because the tank bolts wiggled loose over time.

Putting the waxing under the flange repair kit will easily allow you to reposition the toilet should the need arise. You won't need another wax seal.

Just for extra strength to hold the new metal flange tighter into the old plastic flange. Just being over cautious.

Sorry to hear that. I've Never had any problem at all doing it my way. I also did the same way on my upstairs bathroom. I feel it creates a better seal between the porcelain toilet & the blue flange. No smell or leaking at all.

It can turn I suppose and you want a straight toilet not a crooked one. It helps with visuals I’m sure.

@@cloverhills1369 lol he had his hand pushing down on it the whole time. Go around with the bit, start a hole, just go deep enough to mark the hole, move to the next, then come back and finish drilling them. Saves from tracing anything. Was just pointless lol

Great question. If it worked without the flange before and there was no smell, I don't see why not. Bu I would still use the wax ring.

The manufacturer directs you to use a ring underneath - it’s literally in the instructions.

Why would you do that? The wax ring goes directly under the toilet right on top of the repair flange.

I love silicon. BUT regular silicone CONTINUOUSLY exposed to water fails! I have used it to seal a water container and had it fail. First I used a cheap silicone caulk. It failed in about 4 months. Then an expensive caulk and it failed in about 6 months. I didn't use aquarium tank silicon which I assume should have worked.

You need air screws. For a real answer, you need to pour a concrete base for concrete screws.

You can screw in pieces of 2x6's from joist to joist to frame in the pipe to have something to screw into.

Yes that's right. The professional plumbers that built my house put the ring just before the toilet. I followed their process.
