DIY: How to build the PERFECT campervan TABLE (for under $30!)

Our 1983 Ford Econoline campervan did not come with a table so we decided to make one ourselves! We wanted to build a budget-friendly swivel table that works perfectly for eating AND working. This lagun-style system van table can be adapted for any van so we hope you find these steps helpful to build your own van table!

For height adjustment set for the lowest height as you did. Then drill a row of 1/4" holes vertically say 1" increments maybe 6 of them, in the bottom of the PVC pipe all the way through. Get a pin that fits all the way through and lift pipe slide pin at desired height. Black pipe will sit on pin and still rotate. Just watch for clearance for a countertop overhang. May have to add a spacer block or cut countertop back flush. I have a new vid on it

What an awesome build! How do you stop the connection points of the metal pipe from unscrewing, so your table top doesn't tilt and has things falling off? Did you weld them together?

I just can't wait to get to Ecuador but, still have to wait for my pension or, I could go now but, would then lose it all so, I am staying.....ok, love Ireland but, as I am sure you know, when one have made a decision it just has to happen now....never thought I would come to this point when I am looking forward to "retire"...do now but, as I am sure you also know, I have no plans to stop working online which can be done From the jungle 😊 Can you make a living working online while travelling!? One thing that you can do to lower costs is use emt 3/4in conduit, not to mention it's far lighter, and you can still use those iron fittings or use Maker Pipe custom fittings... However really great video!

Not near as sturdy as black pipe. For something you're gonna have meals and laptops on there worth over 1G easy...better to have sturdy

I’m trying to figure out how to do a swivel table that is also able to adjust vertically. I was thinking to install two pvc pipes with end caps at different heights so I would be able to lift the table out of one and put it into the other. Might have to put a strong bracket at the bottom of each pipe since it would be raised off of the ground. Any other ideas?

Great question! The horizontal steel pipe and connector fit on a little ledge under our couch and the tabletop fits behind our couch or under the top bed. Maybe we’ll try show you in a future video :)

Thanks for a great tutorial! I followed this exactly and discovered that the inside diameter of PVC pipe differs. I have 3/4 in steel pipe and 1-in PVC and it will not fit in it :-( back to the store again😂

I'll build the same table for my sailboat but I am not sure yet on how I will make it LOCK in position when sailing. Maybe you hae done something like that already. But then you probly either drive or sit, so no need for table repositioning while driving. Yes, it will be put away for the heavy sailing. Maybe a pin through the flange for fixing the table from turning on the thread and something like a bicycle clamp for the bottom thingamabob... anyhow, great job and greetings to BC ...

It does fold down but takes under a minute to twist of the table and the horizontal steel pipe and those go under/behind our couch!

Hi. We're also in the middle of our diy campervan build and like the idea of the swivel table. However, we think that the table will move away from us while eating, sice it's not loked in place. Any idea's how we can lock the table in place? I thought about drilling a hole trough both the pvc and metal pipe and put a pin of some sort trough it. Anyone tried this out allready?

The flange is able to swivel on the top connector :)

Am i doing something wrong? ¾” steel pipe at Home Depot doesn’t fit into their 1” pvc. alternatively, ½” doesn’t fit into ¾ pvc. Any insights on that?

Was the 1/2" too loose in the 1" pvc? Seems weird. Unless they don't have them marked correctly

How does it swivel on the phlange?

It just swivels smoothly on the threads of the phalange and the connector. If you place it right, it stays firm in place.

Great concept. But I miss one thing. There are no stoppers, like on the Lagun. I'm afraid the table moves or you have to dismantle it before every ride.

That’s an excellent idea! You could very easily install that alongside the base. Perhaps a hook of some sort

3/4 pipe is too tight of a fit inside 1” pvc at my hardware store. What am I doing wrong?

Strange. Does 1/2” fit? I just sort of walked around until I found a good fit. But 3/4 should fit snug, so I don’t know.

Actually if we had deeper screws, they’d probably go through the top of the table. We also put 4 screws in once it was complete, which is overkill but that table isn’t going anywhere.

@@EricandSarah sorry to be so blunt but I think I speak for most people when they’re looking for information on how to do something on You Tube whether it be how to build a fold out, swing out table in your camper van or how to do a plumbing repair job or whatever, we are looking for information,. Cut to the chase, just show us what we need to get the job done please. If I want to be entertained i’ll watch TV or a movie.
