I have a 2010 Toyota corolla, the right side of the front bumper broke off. I did not want to replace the entire bumper to save $$$$$$$ (No way, repair shop wanted $1K). I simply shifted one of the clip that holds the bumper to the frame(that broke off) and attached it to the interior panel by drilling two new holes. One on the bumper and one on the interior panel and joined the two with panel retainers.
Use mini zip ties to secure it as another option, might be easier.
O’Reilly Auto part store: Panel retainers.

You can also use Mini tie wraps.

Esteban, please help! I’m a mom and have never picked up a drill. I ordered one online, a black and decker, along with some drill bits. How do I know if this is the right one for my TOYOTA bumper? How do I know it will go through the material? If you see this please treat me like a 5 year old and tell me what bit thing I’m suppose to pick! There are 50 to choose from and I feel very overwhelmed 😫😔 Any information you can give me will be so appreciated! Thank you for sharing this!

Kimmy, sorry just saw this now ... usually i get an email when someone comments on a video. most drill bits will work on plastic or wood. They make special ones for metal. Your drill manual should tell you what type of drill bits you have. If you are using panel retainers, you want to use a drill bits that is smaller than the panel retainer stem. The drill bit size that you select should be about 50-60% smaller than the retainer stem. If the hole is to big, then the retainer will not hold.

Advice is always good, but $1k das a lot of Mula(Money).. imagine if you took that 1k and invested in Tesla in 2012. 1000/20=50 Tesla stocks, now you would have had ~$110K(50*5*440) .. you can buy a lot of bumpers with that .. at the end of the day .. it's your decision. I love taking the more economical route .. save my mula($$) for better things, like you said it's a piece of plastic. Best of luck with your repair .. let me know if you have any questions.

Do yourself a favor: drill the whole with the clip on : ones correct location is determined. That will avoid additional drilling as drill bits easily move as they rotate. The video is worth-literally a $1000 bucks; very helpful, just putting in my 2 cents to make things easier/simpler.

I might have to get her a 1960/1970 vehicle .. back in those days .. bumpers were made out of 100% steel. I might have to repair the roads/curves when she starts driving the classic car... 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 .. best of luck with your repair .. if panel retainers don't work .. you can try the mini zip ties ....

Hey I've just completed these same repairs on my Nissan 2005 Tiida & with the help of some very cheap plastic welding tools I simply repaired/replaced the missing & broken pieces which is a job I have never done previously. Rest assured I'm no mechanic & instead I'm a computer technican but this particular repair was in actuality a mere piece of cake. Plastic welding is so easy & I'm confident now to do this type of vehicle repair again at any time!! There are heaps of excellent "how to do" videos on this very subject on "You Tube" & the last place you should be considering visiting is either a repair shop or worse even thinking about wasting money on a new bumper!! (yeah right) All you have to do is get your act together, spend some time reading up about it first on (You Tube) like I did & then put the theory into practise!! As you're not going to repair the "TITANIC" so simply get into it. If I can do it so can you & believe me or not I'm probably twice your age (over 70 in fact) so stop mucking around & pull finger!!

So i been looking for a certain part very close to where your working on in this video. so more towards the top of the side of the bumper, when you push it back in (it clips into a part on both sides) to a part that is connected to the frame where the bumper clips into. If you know what i am talking about, what is that called??? and where can i get a new one? mine broke when a guy hit my car, bumper (new bumper on) stays on and doesnt wiggle but i do want to replace that specific piece

Hi ... are you possibly refering to the inner fender panel/Liner? if you are in the states or canada, you might be able to find a use one here : www.picknpull.com/locations

My car's fender didn't exactly break off in this way. The hole where the screw goes into broke off. In theory all I have to do is screw it back in but that's gonna be difficult to do considering its from the inside. Its my first car. Do you recommend this method?
@estebancarrillo6103
@estebancarrillo6103 3 жыл бұрын
If the fender did not break away and it's not dangling or unaligned, then I would probably leave as is. If it keeps you awake at night not having the screw, and the support that it provides to the fender then I would consider some type of fix.

Will this work on an 07 Accord? The bumper is jutting out on the side. I'm not sure if screws will hold it in place, but other than that, there is no other damage to the bumper.

Hi Ed, do some analysis on the 07 accord. if the panel retainers don't work and if the mini zip ties don't work either. Another possible solution will be to use J-B weld if you have access to it ( www.jbweld.com/products ) .

@estebancarrillo6103

yup .. when parking over the concrete slab. if you park to close to the slab and bumper cover will rub and can potentially break some of those plastic clip/ratainers that hold the bumper cover to the fender liner.

OMG Lashaunda, wow completely off.. 1st step is to analyze damage to the bumper to determine if you can reattach it. There should be a few Major spots in the bumper where it attaches to the frame of the car. if those are not severely damage then you might be able to reattach it. If those spots are severely damage, then we need a Plan B, Plan B is to get creative and possibly use zip tie wraps to reattached it if possible. There are different size of tie wraps, consider using the larger ones to reattached at the major spots. I love a good challenge, this definitely fall into this category, wish can be there to help. let me know if you have any other questions and best of luck with your repair .. you can send me some picks.... email is "about" section in my channel.

Hi John, depends how severe the damage is. We drove(highway, freeways, road) my wife car with the damage for a few months without any problems and could have drove it longer. if the bumper is severely damaged(if it's dragging close to the floor), then I would repair before driving it. Just depends on the severity.

@estebancarrillo6103
@estebancarrillo6103 Жыл бұрын
Hi Alexis, the bottom piece usually uses some kind of retainer (similar to panel retainers). if there is too much damage to the bottom piece you can try to use zip ties to see if you can attach it to some part of the frame. might be a bit challenging to get underneath though. You might need to lift the car, but have to be super careful and have the right tools. you don't want to end up squashed by the vehicle.
