Time to repair the tilt hydraulic cylinders on this old New Holland LX 865 Turbo skid steer that I found on Facebook Marketplace! I remove the shaft, examine the cylinder, replace the seals and rings with a rebuild kit and reinstall the shaft and add new hydraulic fluids into the skid steer.

That internal oring has a directional orientation

I probably should have explained that. I made sure to match directions based on what it looked like when it came off. Taking pictures before hand and during can really come in handy. Thanks for pointing it out!

Thanks. Have the same repair on an lx885 soon as I get the parts. You might want to watch the pipe wrench dinging the rod - don't want scratches. Great instruction.

There is a video on you tube showing how water gets into 'this' model of skidsteer. I own one too. It is the fill cap/breather LID that has the screws to hold it together, THEY COME LOOSE, AND ALLOW WATER TO GO UNDERNEATH INTO THE TANK. It is a rubber seal between the tank and cap assembly that the screws hold together. The ol' trick in the video i watched, was to obviously tighten the screws back up, ...then PUT A MILK JUG BOTTOM OR EQUIVELANT TO COVER THE FILL CAP. Water/rain comes through the top screen over the engine, gets into the funnel area where you fill the hydraylic fluid, the into the tank and contaminates the fluid. YOUR FLUID IN THIS VIDEO HAS WATER IN IT!
@StateFun
@StateFun Жыл бұрын
That makes sense. I've actually flushed the fluid now (unexpectedly when the return from the hydraulic pump failed) but I guess I need to cover that breather

I have a lx 885 and going to take this on. I noticed you have the bucket removed but I can’t get the release lever all the way up on the one side. Any tips would be appreciated.
@StateFun
@StateFun Жыл бұрын
I think it could be done with the bucket on, probably easiest if you're still able to til the bucket forward. As far as getting the lever unstuck, some spray penetrant, maybe some heat, grease in the port if you can and a pipe/hammer should eventually work. Keep it greased after it starts moving and you'll be good to go!

@clintonbays3614
@clintonbays3614 Жыл бұрын
Probably a little to late to reply . but..park on a small hill and face downward, tip your bucket all the way forward (down) and drop it to the ground. Let gravity roll you forward. This will take pressure off the bucket pin. keep the good pin locked. Get a hammer and a 2x4 and smack that pin in. ...park back on level ground, pull other handle, remove bucket, disassemble your quick attach and regrease those pins!!!

@@clintonbays3614 thank you for your advice. I did get the bucket off. I worked on trying to get the cylinder separated so I can get the seals off. Couldn’t budge it. I love this machine but it’s hating me right now.
@clintonbays3614

@@gv1857 I would suggest map gas for a while and a hammer and shock that that cap(without damaging tube, rod , cap) ...you may have to pull the whole cylinder off the steer and put it in a vise. Sounds pretty stuck!!

Your oil doesn’t look good. Did it get water in it? You might want to consider draining out and put new hydraulic oil In
@StateFun
@StateFun 2 жыл бұрын
Honestly I thought it looked "airy" I'll call it. But maybe it is water mixed. Thanks for the comment, google says 10w30 was used for the hydraulic fluid but when I flush it I might as well upgrade to actual hydraulic oil.
@TractorWrangler01
@TractorWrangler01 2 жыл бұрын
@@StateFun That's definatly full of water. You need to purge all that out of the system to keep it from damaging the machine. That will eventually destroy your wheel bearings and any bearings it touches. I believe the hydro tank on that is also your chain case. You now need to figure out how water is getting into your hydro oil. It could be as simple as axle seals and driving it over axle height in the water. If it's happening just being parked outside you'll have to track down the leak.
@StateFun
@StateFun 2 жыл бұрын
@@TractorWrangler01 thanks for the info. The chain cases are separate, and the water must have gotten in during the previous owners use. I'll clean it out and see what I can find. Thanks again!
@David_Mash
@David_Mash 2 жыл бұрын
It's not water, it's air. You were sucking air into the system. You should stick with the 10w30. You could completely replace all the fluid, multiple times and it will still look like that, even after boiling out any possibility of water. Been there done that unfortunately. Experience

I've read a lot of forums about dropping buckets that point to either this rebuild, the check valve, or the pressure relief being bad. I don't have any experience checking either of the other items yet though.
