THANK YOU SO MUCH! Had a repair guy come and give me the run around. Told me it was a electrical board. then said Jandy doesn't support their products. Told me I should buy a new Heater because mine would just keep breaking down. I am a handy guy so I decided to look into it myself. My problem was exactly what you said! Not even a 10 min Fix. 25 bucks for the new capacitor. Works great! THANK YOU AGAIN for making the video!!!!!

My heater is a different model - wouldnt start this spring - went through a bunch of troubleshooting loose wires etc - this was unbelievably simply - you surprised me pulling the control panel off while its running but the only way to get at the motor to turn it - and sure enough I also turned it in the wrong direction at first - once I did that - worked like a charm - your video just saved me an expensive call! Just need a capacitor now. Thanks!

This video was a huge help - I had the exact same capacitor failure in my Laars/Jandy LX250. It was trying to start and the fan just never had enough power to kick-over and so it wouldn't light. I just wanted to mention that the capacitor that replaced the original one (one that I bought) was $7 Canadian and it was a 10 Microfarad (uF), 370 VAC, 50/60 Hz capacitor. Electrical supply shops that service fans and motors carry these.

I had a leak outside of our heater where the water temp sensor and while searching for a vid to help me with that, I came across this vid. Our heater sat idle for two years because we had the same issue. Thanks to you, I fixed both problems and our heater runs like a champ now. Infinite thanks!!!

Great post, resolved my problem with Jandy LX250 humming and fan not turning. Carefully removed the GUI screen and the cover over the fan, and turned it CCW and away it went. So thank you laughin mom as my wife was wanting it fixed pronto. Happy wife, happy life. LOL If anyone has a rusty capacitor and can't read the rating, it is also on your motor plate, ( 10 uF, 370V for my LX250) but you need a mirror to see it clearly.

I had this exact issue with my LT400N-L. I just bought a $6 capacitor from Grainger.com, TITAN PRO Motor Run Capacitor, 10 Mfd, Item # 30D572. Be careful, turn off the power and know how to deal with capacitors. They are very high voltage! I just solved my issue for $6, it would have cost hundreds or thousands if I had called a repair company. Thanks!!!

Thats a start up capacitor good job mamma, it takes a huge jolt of energy to get it to go when they go bad nothing happens you can jump them but your motor speed will still suffer so just replace it.

Capacitor was bad and why it had to be manually turned. So many electrical hazards doing this. Always turn power off before servicing this heater, 240 volts in this heater and arc flash hazard sticking a screwdriver inside. This model Jandy or Laars LT is discontinued and some parts obsolete or expensive to buy online. When laying the thermostat board out to the side is risky since there is 24 volts on this board and if one wire touches metal it will blow the fuseable link and could damage the board and if that happens you might as well just replace the heater because if you can find this board it normally sells online for $750 and up. Just be careful because there is probably voltage somewhere you wouldn’t realize and than you get shocked.

Start capacitors Have a charge, like a battery Even if it’s bad please discharge it first !

Ian Stover, it is an "oval CBB65, 10uf +/- 5%, 370v AC 50/60 hz". Careful to discharge the capacitor before working on it. Laughing Mom's should do a follow-up on the replacement of the capacitor.

Overkill, just take a wire coat hanger and cut off the ends. Curl one end into a hook and insert in to blower exhaust. When starting unit grab fan blade with hook and pull to spin it. No need to take anything apart!
