Update On My Jeep DIY Door Holder and how it has been holding up over the last few years.

Supply List:
4 Jumbo L Hooks (Heavy Duty Arm Hanger Home Depot SKU 697316) are no longer available that i can find as of Aug 2020

I normally go to Lowes but they happen to be out of these the day I went. I think I paid around $5 dollars and some changes for them. You will not need the screws that come with these you will use the 1/4 lag bolts instead.
6 3/8 x 3 inch lag bolts
6 3/8 Fender Washer and they will be labeled as such
8 1/4x2 inch Lag bolts
1 Untreated 2x12 cut to 55 inches

Does that design not mess up the door window rubber

It does push the rubber up (leave an indentation)but it always bounces right back when I put the doors back on and my windows don’t leak. I only have my doors off at the most maybe 4 or 5 days at a time if it was months at a time it could cause a problem. Thanks for watching and the comment hope this helps.

I see the J hooks have a 50lb capacity with two that’s 100, I read online the JL front doors are 70 pounds each and the back are 45. Are your hooks stronger?

Tom I need to update the info in the description, that Home Depot number now goes to a different product. I think mine are the same as the Amazon ones, I believe the lag bolts and not the included hardwear is the difference. I do not think they will break off but would pull out of the wall with just regular screws that is why I used the lag bolts. You are correct on the weight of the doors that is what I was seeing when I started looking for hooks, when I put my doors on I put them as far back on the bracket as possible so that all the weight is not hanging out on the edge and have never had a problem. The one thing I would do differently if I had to do it over would be to make it lower to the ground and try to have the doors resting on a piece of foam or something to take some of the pressure off the brackets in case they ever did fail. There is probably enough room for a third bracket for each doors as well but I can tell you that I have never had a problem out of the brackets or feel like they are going to come crashing down when I put the doors on there. I the video you see the eye bolt that I installed and when I first started using it I would put a rope through that and the doors just in case it basically the brackets did fail the rope would help catch it at least in my mind anyway.
