4x4 electrical box - Gray Weatherproof PVC New Work/Old Work Junction Box www.lowes.com/...
Harken Micro Pulleys - www.harken.com...
Cam Cleat - www.harken.com...
Screws - The screws securing the starboard to the kayak are SS 1/4-20 with finish washers.The screws securing the box to the starboard, through the box tabs are SS10-24 1” pan-head with matching washers. The screws securing the box to the starboard through the inside of the box are SS10-24 pan-head machine screws with matching washers.
Tubing - 3/8-in x 25-ft Polyethylene Tubing www.lowes.com/...
PVC - 3/4” pipe cut to 8” coming from top of box, inserted into 3/4 to 1” reducer. I inserted a 3/4” coupler on the top of the pipe to look clean and prevent the anchor pole handle from getting stuck in the pipe. The reducer inserted into 1” coupler underneath the box lid. Another 3/4 to 1” reducer inserted into opposite end of 1” coupler. Then 3/4” pipe inserted into reducer and cut to length so that it extends through the box and either flush with the hole in the starboard or protruding through the bottom hole as desired.
Fiberglass Anchor Pole - I got from a local tackle shop for $45. It is an 8’ fiberglass rod with plastic T- handle.

"FLARED OUT" NICE DESIGN! Mine is just a simple 3/4x3/4x1/2 "T". 3/4 top, 3/4 side & 1/2 bottom attached to one of my homemade gear tracks with 2 stainless mounts. My stake out pole is a ski pole I poured some hot lead into to weight the bottom. I've always only used my stake out pole in shallow water so 6ft pole and longer is useless to me. Anything above 3ft I just use my anchor trolley (Magic locking anchor trolley~No levers or cleats) My cleat is only for the anchor line and trolley tension.

Anton when you release the 550 line for the anchor pole I'm guessing the weight of the 8ft pole will embed deep enough to hold you in place. Nice system you came up with. On the broken tabs you can pop rivet small SS angle brackets on the inside of the box if there is room so you do not see them
@antonpavlovsky3062

Scott Gorman I have four SS screws going through the inside and it has held very well. However, if I would of thought of your advice... I just might have to do another mod to add them. The box would be rock solid forever! Thanks!

Cool ideas, I do feel like you can do everything you said with just the anchor trolley. Did you rely on just the weight of the parking pole to bury itself. Just curious. I tried a diy anchor pole when I first started kayak fishing. I used mine in conjunction with the yak attack had anchor trolley. Soon got tired of the issues associated with kayaking with a 8ft pole attached to the kayak. ie: it got in the way a lot. After one particularly difficult paddle up stream in a narrow river I decided I had had enough with the hang ups. The cons outweighed the pros and I gave it away.
@antonpavlovsky3062
@antonpavlovsky3062 3 ай бұрын
Yes, just the weight of the pole. It’s not going to hold you in crazy wind and the bottom material has a lot to do with hold, but I’ve been using this setup for years now with no issues. Tried taking on a river trip years ago and never would again. Too many overhangs.
@NSos4419
@NSos4419 5 жыл бұрын
If you wanted to add downward force to bury the pole, couldn't you run a cord to the top of the fiberglass pole near the T handle (similar to how the first cord is run and tied in) and run that cord to the other side of the kayak seat?
@antonpavlovsky3062
@antonpavlovsky3062 5 жыл бұрын
Nathan Sosebee that’s a good idea. I’ve not had too much of an issue. If I let go of the cord while the pole is all the way up, the downward force from the fall is usually sufficient. A rocky bottom creates more of an issue, but I don’t see that as much in lakes as compared to rivers.
@BassManStrikes
@BassManStrikes 6 жыл бұрын
How does it hold position with no downward force on the spike? Does the yak just drag the spike until it hits something on the bottom?
@antonpavlovsky3062
@antonpavlovsky3062 6 жыл бұрын
BassMan Strikes, you can get some good downward force when you release the cord from the cam cleat. However, if you are dealing with a gravel or rocky bottom like a river then yes, you might drift.
@kkay8209
@kkay8209 4 жыл бұрын
Just curious since there doesn't appear to be any mechanism to have the pole dig into the bottom (unless I missed something) how do you get the pole into the bottom more than an inch or so? Do you have to push it in manually?
@antonpavlovsky3062
@antonpavlovsky3062 4 жыл бұрын
K Kay the weight of the pole is enough to get down and hold. If I’m in rocky, gravel bottom I may drift a bit, but always catch something. I have, on a few rare occasions, deployed the pole and continued to drift. However, that is usually in windy conditions above 10mph.

@antonpavlovsky3062
@antonpavlovsky3062 Жыл бұрын
If you have actually tried using one you’d have a different opinion. I have, thought it was a great idea, it wasn’t. The diameter of the reel and size of the knob are way too small for kayak anchors over 2lbs. You have to hand line the anchor and then reel the slack, hand line the anchor, reel the slack. The Anchor Wizard is by far the best option and after resisting for years I bought one. My diy anchor pole however has been working perfectly for years.

@antonpavlovsky3062
@antonpavlovsky3062 5 жыл бұрын
hisjr none at all. I did remove the carabiner because it come off of the bolt twice while on the water. Had to get out of the kayak in some cold water to reattach. I think it got opened when pulled up to the bottom of the housing. Just tied the cord directly to the bolt. Has been working flawlessly since. I was out yesterday in 20+mph winds and it held me with only slight drift in rocky bottom. In sand or mud it sticks with zero drift.

What size is that junction box and how much did it cost?
@antonpavlovsky3062
@antonpavlovsky3062 5 жыл бұрын
Kevin Beyersdorf it’s 4x4 inch and costs less than $10 at Lowe’s or Home Depot. Take note, the one at Home Depot only has one tab on each side. I used this type on my version 2 model just because I was at HD. I mounted screws through the box into the starboard, so the number of tabs didn’t really matter to me.
@bassplugger1
@bassplugger1 6 жыл бұрын
that is a neat set up you have, are you still happy with the two pulley system?
@antonpavlovsky3062
@antonpavlovsky3062 6 жыл бұрын
Tim Scott, the two pulley system works great. However, I have to reengineer the box. During my recent 3 day river trip, the tabs on the box that hold it to the star board broke. Version 2 will have the PVC going through the box be a bit longer on the bottom to handle the flex of the pile better.
@bassplugger1
@bassplugger1 6 жыл бұрын
Anton Pavlovsky I copied your idea of using two pulleys I have a Jackson Big Rig which has four threaded inserts from the factory made for installation of a power pole I used a 5”x 5”x1/8”aluminum plate to attach to the kayak and attached the tabs on the box to it but I also attached the bottom pulley with 4 stainless bolts that go thru the aluminum plate and up thru the box onto the pulley I am now considering taking it back off and adding another bolt in each corner on the inside since you’re concerned with the box flexing
@antonpavlovsky3062
@antonpavlovsky3062 6 жыл бұрын
Tim Scott that is a good idea. I plan to do the same with version 2. Also considering some adhesive or JB weld on the bottom of the box. Thinking this will distribute the force across the bottom of the box vs just at the screw points.

Great video! Quick question...what did you use for the conduit/tubing to run the cord through? How did you create the flange on both ends of the tubing?
@antonpavlovsky3062
@antonpavlovsky3062 5 жыл бұрын
Ryan B I used 3/8 inch ID tubing from Lowe’s. To make the flange, pull out enough tubing to use vice grips to prevent the tubing from going back in the hull. Leave about an inch from the grips to the end of the tubing. Then use a lighter or heat gun to heat up the end. It will start to melt and starts to flange out on its own. I used the flat side of a pair of pliers to mushroom it out more. Hope that helps
