UPDATE: Instant DIY Shallow Water Stick and Anchor Wizard. Cheaper Micro Power Pole Alternative

I've never been one to stop trying to improve things and my previous stick anchor system is no exception. Here I've paired the stick anchor up with the Anchor Wizard to make an even more convenient system. There are also a couple of other tricks to make the system work more effectively.

I've seen some comments to put small weights sealed inside the pole to add some weight. That could be noisy if you're trying to sneak up on some fish so I thought maybe if you sealed sand inside the pole that would add some quiet and cost effective weight inside it. May not want to fill it up all the way up though as it may become top heavy and bend or break or stress the pole when in the high position. Just a thought. Great video!

Thanks...I'd have to swap poles because this is a solid fiberglass. But definitely something to consider for a future build.

I'll have to review your kther videos but, do you have a system of quick disconnect for anchor or pole with the Anchor Wizard. I was in a fair current, anchor got stuck and I nearly got swamped. Anchor Buddy is going to be repurposed to a down rigger. No more anchor on that death trap.

Thx for watching! I love the anchor wizard, but I'm not fishing in current or tidal waters so this is not a problem for me. I've heard people express similar concerns though but I haven't explored solutions for this. Sorry I can't be more help here. Tight lines!

Instead of sharp spike on bottom, how about a bulbous weighted sand bag at the end of the pole? It would hold a boat more by weighted friction. If its a muddy bottom would sink some and be suction stuck in the mud. And like pulling your leg out when in to knees -its not easy! If you have a rocky bottom, it’d be partially molding into crevices/between rocks.

You know, I actually have had similar thoughts at times, but just could never decide on a fabric or material that would be strong enough to take that type of beating in a wet environment. I should note I'm not actually using any anchor system currently. Since I now have a pedal drive, I usually just set up where I can use my feet to stay in position. I also don't do a lot of things like vertical jigging or bait fishing where spot lock is necessary.

If the pole is hollow maybe you could add several ounces of lead weights to the inside, seal the end and grind your angled tip.

Instead of the set screw , run a bungee from a anchor point go around pole and back to a anchor . Adj the tension so pole stays up or down

Thanks for the video. Hope you don't have a patent on the mounting platform. Think I'll borrow it to reconfigure my pole, anchor,and skeg. Let's be honest,song writers steal lines, I'm stealing your idea. Lol. Thanks again for a great video. Tight lines.

I had to cut my pole off..it was too long. the weight of the pole at the top made everything unstable and wobbly. Your pole can be TOO big. Jus' sayin' . Hold on you just said your pole has a stainless steel tip?? Brutal. I've made a DIY anchor system and I ended up buying a yakgadget power pole..I've used both. Only thing I hate about those systems is that they are very noisy in a rock bottom..very loud..

This is the only time I've ever had that problem, but you're right...pole's too big.😂 I neglected to mention this in the video, but I actually cut down this pole about 6" as well. The stainless steel tip may make it a little bit louder, but you're also right. This system is loud on rocks. It's not usually an issue for where I fish, but that's a definite concern on shallow rocky rivers. For rocky environments, I wonder if it would make sense to go with a different tip type altogether. Maybe some type of removable rubber coated chain that would more like a wedge on rocks and be stealthier.

Thx for watching and good question! You'd be surprised how much just the pole itself can add to the boat rocking side-to-side in waves. If you add the weight up top, it exaggerates that effect because you've distributed more weight higher. By placing the weight lower, you're helping to lower the center of gravity closer to the water level and keep everything more stable.
