Make things easier on your back while also adding some storage area and style to your laundry room with this easy DIY Laundry Room Pedestal.
I followed the directions in the Winter 2018 Family Handyman magazine. You can find it on page 68. I made some modifications to the size on the openings to fit the area I would be installing it better. This plan is easy to modify if you need to. Directions were a little tricky in parts and I had to improvise a little but overall the plans were great and the finished product is solid, quality, and looks so good.
You can also find online instructions here: www.familyhandyman.com/woodwo...

@@AroundtheHouse Yeah - apparently if Home Depot delivers your gas dryer, they will NOT install it unless you have it stacked (we did initially) or an 18" shelf. Standard pedestals are 15" It's meant to help alleviate the risk of explosion from vehicle impact + if there is a leak, gas pools to the ground. Having dryer on the ground = hazard due to ignition. 18" is safer.

Came across your video and am attempting this project this weekend. Thanks for taking the time to document your project. It will be invaluable to me over the next two days. I'm curious what you went with for the overall total height of your pedestal? Also I was curious what the purpose of the recess of the kick plate is for? I noticed you covered the gap with a trim piece at the end of your video.
@AroundtheHouse
@AroundtheHouse 4 жыл бұрын
This is a great project to tackle right now. I made it about an 1" or 1 1/2" shorter to fit the space. Sorry don't remember exactly. Good call on the recess kick plate. I just followed the directions but I'm with you, I think it'd be better if it wasn't recessed so that you can nail to it. Good luck on your build 😀

Joey Arteaga Thanks. I built this for a friend so sadly I can’t give my personal review. I followed up with him and he said it’s built rock solid. It has a little vibration but he thinks it’s due to uneven floors. I hope that helps. I’ll try to get over and check it out soon.

I’m surprised this is strong enough to hold the weight of a full washer. The matching pedestals are too high for where my washer has to go. (The door wouldn’t be able to be opened all of the way 😲). Has anyone else built one from this video? TIA for any useful feedback.

Hi - Thanks for the great video. Now that this has been in place for a few years - how stable has it been? My main concern was looking at the video how the bottom brace against the floor was not directly supporting the 2 braces/separators in the middle compartments supporting the top. Any issues with stability or warping since the build?

How many trim boards and how many gallons of paint were needed?

Hi Justin, I’m sorry this was so long ago I’m not sure. I believe it was just 1 gallon of paint.

That looks really nice, but I heard a washer and dryer needs to be bolted down to the pedals. Is this an issue on your set up?

Great question. I built these years ago and was just at my friends house yesterday and they are still going strong without any issues. I’m sure all washers and dryers are different so might be an issue with some. They have the front loaders we have that don’t ever move around.

It’s great to see a woman building 👍. I’m wondering how the stand is holding up. Ty

Charles Martel this cost me around $100 to make. Thanks for the question, I’ll try to note that in the future as it can be helpful to know 😊

What are the dimensions of the pedestal?
@AroundtheHouse

The plans are for 58 1/2 inches long by 18 1/4 inches deep by 18 1/2 inches tall. I believe I made mine around 16 inches tall since my friends didn't want it up so high, however it was so long ago I don't remember the exact hight. Hopefully it says in the video.

Hi Valerie! It took a week or two to complete - but probably only a couple days of actual work time in the shop! Thanks for commenting!

ive seen a couple of these pedestal videos and I dont get why none have used treated lumber for the base. Folks most of these pedestals will be installed next or close to a drain, where water WILL collect at some point, you dont want the wood to soak up any water and bubble up, then your hard work is trashed in a matter of hours. The paint may help but I wouldnt risk it.
