This video will show you how to build a DIY Live Edge Desk step-by-step! Building your own DIY live edge adjustable sit stand desk is a lot easier than you think.
To complete this DIY Live Edge Desk Project, you will need to complete the following steps:
00:00 - Introduction
00:25 - Step 1: Select and source the slab for your DIY live edge desk.
01:29 - Step 2: Trim the live edge slab to suit your needs.
01:47 - Step 3: Remove bark (if desired) from the live edge slab and sand down any rough edges.
01:59 - Step 4: Customize the live edge slab as you desire.
04:25 - Step 5: Finish the live edge desk slab with a protective top coat.
07:15 - Step 6: Select and install your live edge desk legs and attach them to the slab.
09:15 - Final Result
Each of these steps is explained in detail within this DIY Live Edge Desk Video, but I encourage you to visit my website for more information and tips on completing your DIY live Edge Desk!

Now lets take a closer look at each of the steps required to build a DIY live edge desk.
Step 1: Select and source the slab for your DIY live edge desk.
I purchased my live edge slab on Craigslist! Check out my blog for more detailed information on on the slab I purchased such as length, width, thickness, species, and price!
Step 2: Trim the live edge slab to suit your needs.
Your live edge desk slab (when you purchase it) will likely have some imperfections. Take this time to trim your live edge slab as needed to get the shape you want for your live edge desk slab.
Step 3: Remove bark (if desired) from the live edge slab and sand down any rough edges.
I recommend that you remove any bark from your DIY live edge desk slab. Additionally, sand down any of the rough edges on your live edge desk slab to make sure that you have a smooth finish.
Step 4: Customize the live edge slab as you desire.
Feel free to customize your live edge desk slab any way you want. I decided to use butterfly keys/bowties for both reinforcement and to add some aesthetic to my live edge desk slab.
Step 5: Finish the live edge desk slab with a protective top coat.
I recommend that you finish the top of your live edge desk slab with a protective coat. I used epoxy to protect and coat the top of my live edge desk slab, but there are many other suitable finishes.
Step 6: Select and install your live edge desk legs and attach them to the slab.
Once your slab is finished, simply attach some desk legs to the bottom. I went with motorized sit/stand desk legs that I found on Amazon (link is below).
I hope this DIY live edge desk video provided you with some live edge desk ideas of your own. Thanks for watching and best of luck with your DIY live edge desk build!
Additionally, I want to give a huge shoutout to Corechair for hooking us up with a new desk chair to go along with the new DIY live edge desk. It is an awesome desk chair that I can highly recommend - They are awesome.

Andrew, this is a beautiful creation. I especially admire the minimalistic and simplistic design of the desk. At the same time the incorporation of the two butterfly inlays was incredibly innovative. I've seen some of your other videos as well, the bathroom remodel was stunning. I appreciate your creativity and how detail-oriented you are and it shows through your work. I wonder how long you've been designing and building for. Did you learn how to build furniture and remodel homes yourself?

Beautiful and so shiny ✨ That seems like a good way to repurpose wood from clearing trees cut down in your yard 🤷🏽‍♀️ Pretty expensive “DIY” for the average Joe, but I think that you did a great job 👏

I appreciate it! I like epoxy since it is virtually bulletproof (no stains, water worries, etc.) However, check out polyurethane or shellac as well. I'm no coating expert, unfortunately. Thanks for watching and good luck with your coffee table!

Great job! Would you tell us the total cost of this project?

Hi Autumn! Thanks for watching! This definitely falls into the "luxury desk price range". Slabs that size can range anywhere from $100-$1,500. Epoxy will cost you around $50. And the cost for the legs will depend on the style/quality of desk legs you buy. All in all, I think I spend around $550 on this one. Thanks!
