Thank you for this! EVA foam looks to be a very handy and useful material, I didn't realize it was this easy to form and use for all sorts of things.

I was so glad I came across this video. Your other videos inspired me to build an Ebike powered by a couple of 24 volt Kobalt tool batteries. Yesterday, I hit some rough ground, and a battery holder split apart. I tied it together with a bungee cord. I usually ride about 20 smiles per hour.

Very nice. I did mine with a "moldable plastic Thermoplastic beads", using press and seal or saran wrap to cover the battery. Then, just like molding a putty, you press it to all the necessry areas like the slide and lock. When it is almost cured but still workable (slightly white, I slide it off the battery and use scripto knife on the terminal holes to finish the slot all the way through. I dont even need to make holes on the battery lock (It locks in place). Fits like a globe. You can use a thicker material like aluminum foil to wrap the battery If you like it a little bit loose.

Great approach. Additioally, I'd first smooth/round the contacts before installation, and use more EVA foam to mold a cover. 24 VDC shorted is quite exciting.

Very good idea, I will try it. But I would reinforce the back with an insulating hard heat resistant material like a piece of plywood or odd floor laminate piece with holes for the contact screws. High current with mechanical contacts have habit of getting very very warm. And a final cover also. Lithium batteries got bad reputation even though they getting much better now.

Fantastic video mate! Well done! (Hope the integrity of the PVA foam hasn't been compromised too much by your screwing the screws so tight to flatten it?) You nigytbeb wise to add a couple of extra layers of foam one on top before the aluminium to make it thicker and then one op top of that above the screws so that they're isolated and not exposed (it also adds a bit of impact resistance to the top of the battery aswell as preventing shorts!) Aside from that good cheap and quick result! I might try this myself on some different batteries I have.. I wonder if you can make some battery adaptors in the same way? EG. To fit one tool brand to fit another brand of battery? Maybe you could try a video on this? Cheers from London England 👍😎🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

When testing the controller I am getting a sequence of lights that tell me the controller is not working. Would like to know what the meter is detecting and how to troubleshoot or repair controller if possible.

It would probably be better to make the electrical connections with about , 12mm copper tubing, hammered flat, then filed or sanded to get more precisely flat to fit the battery, and bend and drill. Holes and possibly use copper pop rivets to attach, solder 12 gauge wire to the terminal, then attach to the battery, and coat the outside of the adapter with epoxy, if you want it to be a bit stronger!

Good morning. What is the third terminal for?
@vuaeco
@vuaeco 2 жыл бұрын
Third terminal is signal wire for the Kobalt tool. It runs from the battery BMS to the Kobalt tool. Without the third terminal, the Kobalt tool won't work. But since I'm making this for everything else but the Kobalt tool, third terminal is useless.

It's not the smartest idea to heat a battery pack with lithium ion batteries with a heating gun. But the project itself is great. You should just remove the batteries before heating. The electrolyte in batteries is volatile and highly flammable.

That trick to turn the wire into a ring was pretty slick. But I'm going to assume if someone doesn't have any ring connectors, they probably don't have a soldering iron. I don't know what kind of weirdo would have one without the other. You either have both or neither
@wrathofsocrus
@wrathofsocrus 2 жыл бұрын
I'm that weirdo, I despise crimp connectors. Way cheaper to keep scrap wire, solder, and an iron on hand than a complete load-out of crimp connectors. I did the same thing with heavier wire on an inverter with a 10mm head bolt and nylon locknut just like in the video. Taped a cheap 10mm wrench nearby because you can never have enough 10mm wrenches!

@@Vile_old_Bastard_3545 Because I think vuaeco is a great KZfaqr trying to help people with DIY projects and explains himself very well. Why would people come to these comments to discourage DIYers or vuaeco? If some people don't gravitate to this content then that's their problem. The function of the projects on this channel speaks volumes whether someone wants to listen or not. It's lovely that other people have other methods, but people would be surprised just how different some people live their lives, such as having a soldering iron and no ring crimp connectors on hand. I specifically rolled with it instead of being insulted because I don't want to be like other people purely to 'fit in'. There's a long line of people who know I'm a weirdo, and they all call me when their stuff breaks. I wear the weirdo badge with pride.
