So way up north in Alaska its rather important to get your car in the garage. This hasn't happened for my family yet this year because my motorcycle. It's not that the bike is to big but that I don't have to room to get it against the back wall. I decided to make a dolly to park on allowing me to spin the bike 360° without pulling an Austin Powers parking move. LOL!

All it needs is a piece at the front to stop you riding off the end. Great idea 🇬🇧

I had to add a 5 ft orange plastic dow rod to the center of the front. My fairing completely covers the front, can't see the front tire or fender, so I keep the rod in view down the center of my handlebars to stay lined up with the dolly. I also added a ramp on the front so as to drive straight off instead of backing off the dolly.

Very nice build! May I ask what size bolts, washers and lock nuts you used? And can you get them in bulk from Lowes?
@556Raven
@556Raven 6 жыл бұрын
+Zaren thank you! Every bit of it came from Lowe's all bulk stuff. The bolts are 3/8-16x4 and the nuts and washers are the ones that fit. 3/8 size socket. Not sure on the actual detail of them as I ruined that section of the box they came in.
@realgdman4u1
@realgdman4u1 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the reply! Thinking of doing this myself. I have a bunch of 5/16x6" carriage bolts, nuts , and washers. I'm not sure if they will work, so I may go pick up some 3/8's. That's the largest size bit I have laying around. I've watched a lot of DIY dolly vids and yours seems not ONLY effective, but not to much hardware involved!
@realgdman4u1

Hey! I'm finally starting my build based on your video. I'm assuming with a 2004(ish) HD Road King Police edition, you cut your boards to 8 feet? That would give you a two feet section for the ramp? Also, assuming you did the same with the superstrut, you end up with cross sections for the middle undercarriage? I have a Honda Interstate and my boards are treated 2x12x10's that I am cutting down to 8 feet. If I do this right, I will have almost half a superstrut left and a 2x12x2 section of lumber. Thoughts?

What did you use to stop it from moving when you rode the bike on to it? I have an ultra and I I know she will make the dolly move once the wheel hits it
@archieh4058

I think just the weight from the front tire pushing into the ground kept it from moving, i watched that part several times.

Looks sweet. alot of guys complain about being on the bike putting it on these or a lift. I just walk it up in 1st using clutch and front brake...good job. I might build one myself. was it significantly cheaper than buying a premade unit?
@556Raven
@556Raven 7 жыл бұрын
+Charles Power it actually was slightly more expensive then if I had just bought one. I probably way over did the bracing. But I really enjoyed marking it and I know it will last my lifetime.

My only concern would be the stability when riding on, those wheels didn't look like they lock to keep the dolly on place, sooner or later the dolly will slide and the bike goes down. I would use one of these but i think i would add breaks for when riding onto the dolly. overall good video
@556Raven
@556Raven 7 жыл бұрын
+Snake Bite the wheels do lock and it has been stable so far. I'm sure that after years of use it will wear and probably need upgrading of one form or another. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

Noticed in the video from the start of loading the bike to on there is lost time. Question: Did you have any support at the beginning or does it pop up until you can get the front wheel past the first rollers?
@556Raven
@556Raven 7 жыл бұрын
+Snake Bite it doesent move at all. The wheels are set just right and it's heavy enough that as long as the breaks are set it doesent have any issues loading. And yes the wheel placement was more luck than a plan.
@davem5333
@davem5333 5 жыл бұрын
Great idea. If I were to build one, I would put a wheel chock to store the bike upright. Take less space. I have a Gold Wing so getting off would be easy. Just use the reverse.

The wheels need to be on the sides so it is lower you can get your feet on the look then but it’s well good mate
