NEXT PROJECT: building a roof over this 20' shipping container to support our off grid solar system, store tools, stack wood for our wood burning stove, and collect rainwater for our cabin.
Buying an excavator with NO EXPERIENCE was a gamble, but we felt it was the best way to make big progress here on our mountainous, heavily overgrown, and unmanaged hunting property. With another baby on the way, we've changed our plans & are building off grid cabin number 2. This cabin will be big enough for us to have live in for years to come, with beds for guests, solar, and a real septic tank (no more composting toilet).
ABOUT OUR CHANNEL

Every morning after you awaken put 8 drops of peppermint oil in eight ounces of distilled water and drink it every morning and in 10 to 14 days the heat won't bother you. I'm a retired Building Contactor and in 1996 I had an Brain Aneurysm and was told I couldn't be out in the sun. WHAT? I work in the sun. I searched and searched on the internet for an answer and was about to quit when I came across this article and read it and said, "What do I have to lose?" Framing homes at 105 F isn't fun but it was amazing how well it worked. My brother in Law wanted to take a break every 15 minutes and I was ready to go. IT WORKS and has worked for everyone I have told this to. I hope you try it because it works! Not sure if it's safe for megan to take but I don't see why not after all we are all using peppermint oil every day, pretty much. I know it takes a while to get used to drinking Peppermint oil, especially eight drops can be overwhelming.

Love it! One thing to consider is the (probably) load fan noise from the inverter....that's partly why I moved our unit from inside the cottage to it's own battery / solar room under the carport roof (which also has the panels)...

Hey! Good idea. We have a video from last year that covers a lot of that, but it would be good to do another more focused on woody. I think it’s called “the truth about our Barndominium” and goes over our whole build experience, why we built, and why we ended up taking this route with the cabin. Talks a lot about woody personally!

You did a great job, Woody. Although, I really wish you would have taken out that DEAD tree right in front of the cabin. It has WIDOW MAKER (or even child taker) written all over it. Please don't let one strong wind jeopardize your beautiful family. Also if the panels are going on top of the container, I'm wondering if you will be clearing more trees around it so that the sun will actually get to the panels.

hi there. there is a building type you could do to place the solar panels were you want them. the building type is called " Solar Pergola " the solar pergola is basically a pergola whit solar panels on, "pergola is a building whit vertical posts or pillars that usually support cross-beams" how i am thinking is that you build a frame around the top off the container and you have like 4 or 6 post/pillars that goes down to the ground and then put beams across the frame that is ontop off the container and then you just mount the solar panels on the wood beams, the frame and the post around the container would remove alot off weight and you would have some space between the solar panels and the container that you need for the cabels, and one more added thing is that if you build a pergola ontop off the container then you could infact move the container around and it wont effect the solar panels. so if you need to move the container a little back or forward then just unplug the solar panels and move it whit the excavator and then plug it back in, or if you want to remove it completely then you could do that and you still have a building that gives power and you would have something to sit under if you want to do that. well it is just a thought from me but i think you know what you wanna do :)

@@woodysbarndominiumi follow you allmost from the first time you moved to arkansas :) yea i think you would like that ide. basically 2-3 or more post on eatch side, frame ontop off the post then beams in or above the frame then place the solar panels on the beams, and becasue you dident cover the side off the container then you can fix the side if needed and you can move the container around and so on.

We had a shipping container on our property in NC while we were building and at the last minute before we moved in, they told us we’d have the get rid of it immediately or they’d start charging us $100 a day. It was full of our stuff for the shop. We ended up moving it all into the garage early and that’s been a nightmare (it was so disorganized). We want to redeem ourselves here 😆… I’m so excited to maybe get my porch back this week! Plus being able to lock up all the tools and collect rainwater off the new roof will be such a relief.

@@country808-si7xw my dad reminds us of that all the time. He’s got 10 acres in Texas and it felt like a kingdom when I was a kid, but man we sure used all 10 acres, and fast! So you have a crazy lady and a guy who likes lighting things on fire? You have your hands full with those two. Sorry you have to go through that. It's hard enough setting up the cabin and land, etc... That guy that lights fires would keep me up all day and night. There should be some legal way to get that handled???

Comes with the territory of being out in the woods. Some are here for the same reasons as us, and others just don’t want to be part of society in any way and live their lives in that way. Can’t pick your neighbors!
