It's getting to be a lot of fun out here with Wade turning 3. He's finally at the stage where he wants to be a helper, and im hoping that keeps up after the new baby arrives! he said he wants to carry the baby's diapers in his froggy backpack!

I feel for you about the hard soil . Living in N . Dakota I wanted to put in a vegetable garden . After a hour of digging with a pick and shovel I decided that there weren't enough years left in my life to finish it , so I back filled what little progress I made and decided to build raised beds . My dog was relieved to because she had never seen me so miserable before . 😂 Wish I was about 40 years younger . My hats off to the two of you for not letting the good earth get the best of you . The video was entertaining with a good cup of coffee and a smile on my face . My best to your family . 👍

Oh gosh isn’t that crazy! There’s so much farming up there but the ground is just hard to work. Gotta give credit to the folks who decided to settle that area. Thank you for joining us! We are just getting started here, I can’t wait to make my own raised beds & have some food growing on the property. The big plan is to eventually have a few bison. Nothing crazy, but enough for us and our neighbors.

You would have been better off using your excavator to dig holes and then realigned your tubes up

The bucket on the excavator is about 18-20” wide and can’t dig less than. 2’ wide hole, way more than we needed or wanted for this. The less we disturb the soil, the less it’ll move on us in the future!

Your going to needs to watch the sun come up and see how many trees are still blocking with shade early in the day so you can maximize you daily solar production.

There’s a ton of clearing left to be done, but our current struggle is that we lack the open space to process trees once they’re down. Once we get all the welding done on the container we’ll re-group and start processing all the trees we’ve already dropped. That should give us enough space to work as we clear. It all just takes time.

With that big excavator yall should invest in a quick attatch coupler for it, you can get pallet forks, different size buckets for it, and a ton of different attachments from augers, rock hammers brush cutters, stump grinders that I bet yall would definitely be able to make use of and make life easier out there in the woods.

Yea I wished I had an English operators manual to look tho before I bought our grey machine since I later found out I can’t run a hammer with the offset boom. I do have a Craig wedge coupler but I haven’t saved for any other attachments, and I have to weld their ears on my bucket to use it.

It’s going to be in the spot permanently, we’re going to do 2 more footers once the container is placed and make a 15’ overhang off one side. We don’t want it shifting.

That’s the plan! We just need to get some of what we’ve already cleared burned or processed first. There’s literally no where to put more downed trees right now.

The angle for your panels is your latitude. Plus 5 degrees for winter and minus 5 degrees for summer. Generally, if you put the angle equal to the latitude , you should be good. You definitely need a much bigger solar window. Any shade on the panels will decrease your generating capability. Air conditioning can suck from the batteries at night so you want to make sure you can top them off daily. You will need to be able to charge the batteries with generator in winter. I live off-grid in the Ozarks for the last 4 years.

thanks for the info! we are planning on having the panels adjustable, but havent gotten too specific with that plan yet. The area around the cabin and behind the solar shed will get cleared, but we're prioritizing building the set-up first, clearing after it's functional. I'd love to have it all wrapped up by the end of the month, we still have to make a trip back to NC to pickup all of our newborn stuff before the baby comes in early October.

I bought my land before one neighbor. She did the exact same thing to me. In her mind. My land was hers. The road she thinks is only hers. Belongs to all the land owners. She even knows every square inch of my property. Her land is not next to mine. Yet. I have to go by hers. These people are nuts. Her three dogs are supper friendly. She isn't. A nut case.

@woodysbarndominium My whole adult life. I always have one single neighbor who believes everything I pay for is theirs to use any way they see fit. I moved to several states. That didn't work. Homes to apartments to land. That didn't work. To the country to towns to cities. That didn't work. Nothing works. Not for me.
