In this video I'm showing you how I built my outdoor Sauna. It's a simple build using timber beams and steel rods. A glass door provides daylight and a Harvia M3 stove cosy heat. Overall, it took me 2 weekends to finish. Enjoy!

This is a good book. Does provide a step by step introduction to how to build things kzfaq.infoUgkxhgbP-6hUnXu_QRaoHgLztgsI0YF3HqR0 , also does offer some steps. Includes pictures to give you ideas for layouts and such. If you are looking for a guide, this is not exactly what you want. But if you are trying to familiarize yourself with the way that pole barn building and other out buildings, are made, then this will work just as you need it to. A few things in this book are a barn (of course), detached garage, storage building, and coops.

@@matthewkeyes4639 why does it need insulation? 2 inch thick walls and roof will retain enough heat while in use, surely?
@stuntcock01
@stuntcock01 3 жыл бұрын
@@matthewkeyes4639you're right in that he didn't use the best materials for the job, but we dont know... maybe this was a cheap case study in "can I build a sauna" before he went out and spent thousands and thousands of dollars on 4x4 red cedar posts. as for the structure... this exact building method is used by Finnish sauna builders. there is no need for insulation when you are using solid walls like this, and even most cedar barrel saunas which use T&G panel don't have insulation or vapour barrier ; A sauna is only meant to be hot while you are in it. the structure itself doesnt need to retain heat, only the rocks in the stove. the only disadvantage to using knotty wood is that it heats up unevenly and its uncomfortable to touch. a knot on the wall isn't a big deal... a knot on the bench will hurt. . the wood may or may not rot. there is a Japanese technique called Shou Sugi Ban which he did (scorching the wood) which serves as a form of weatherproofing. only thing I would do differently is not use glue. the tension from the threaded rod is enough to compress the beams. I agree with you that this may not be the best LONG TERM application, but it works. as with anything, do your own research. that is common sense.

@@pizzacup2012 You can use glue in certain parts to reinforce the structure (however do not in any way relly on glue to hold it together by itself) , and depending on the type and brand of glue it may stand strong and not emmit any fumes when put in contact with heat(the heat of the sauna might also not be high enough to produce a reaction). Cool video, don't do what he did, it's a poorly built structure. What is the ideal distance between the insulation foil and the wood (the planks)? Moreover, can there be tiles on the floor or there's got to be planks instead (or tiles and planks on top of them)? Is 8kW electric heater good for a 1.5x1.5 sauna or will it be too much? Last - is the lack of a draining pipe/system a big no-no and is having it a must? I've noticed a lot of sauna places in my country (in hotels) don't have the draining system. I wonder why. Thanks!

@@IVespidI Look, if you put a video on youtube of you building a sauna then you should be able to handle some criticism. The issue isn't that his build isnt beautiful but the way he built it is dangerous (no cap on the smokestack and no support for the bench where he is sitting on) and also this hut will break in a few years because he didnt cover the roof all the way so water will leak into it and mold will start to grow. My issue is simply that if he invested like 10% more time and thought it out a little better, this build could have been 100% better. This was a damn interesting approach! Threaded rod to keep the boards in line than bolt them down. If though the stove is exhausting, I'm thinking some soot might escape and being that your in a very confined area. This may be bad over the years.

Other guy is right. This is a method we use often out in the woods when access to fancy material is not available. It prevents mold, deterioration, and pests. It will improve the lifespan of the wood. Additionally it helps make a liquid proof seal.
