Here is a quick demo of the homemade wood fired pizza oven I built this spring. The oven is made primarily from cement and vermiculite, and was formed over an exercise ball.

Great pizza oven. I’d be jealous if I was your neighbor.

What is really impressive is the Santa Maria or Uruguayan/Argentinian Grill, hybrid with the adjustable grill. Nicely done.

Вподобайка за компактність!

I think you said "I like the compactness"...? Thanks. It is a nice smaller size for a backyard.

Hi, very inspiring for my own project. I don't know where you live but is it a region with frost and lots of rain? Was the oven affected? Some say vermiculite is more sensitive to moisture than perlite.. What is the overall state of the inside shell after some years of use and standing the weather now?

It is a region with rain and freezing. Ontario. It has been about 3-4 years... and it is not doing very well. I'm going to attempt some crack repairs this summer / fall. I think it would benefit from a small roof to keep the water off the dome. Seems to seep into all the cracks / joints and freeze.

I love it, nice job! How many cinder blocks were used for this design?
@MrGTMan002 Жыл бұрын
Going by memory - I think I bought around 80-90 blocks.

Well done, this is the exact build I am going for. Pizza oven/Parrilla combo. What did you put on top of the cinder blocks as your base for the Pizza oven? It looks too thin to be a poured concrete counter.
@MrGTMan0022 жыл бұрын
Hi Tim. Thanks for watching! On top of the cinder blocks is actually a poured concrete countertop. I made a form that was approximately 44" square x 2" thick if I remember correctly. Poured it upside down right next to where it was going and got some help to flip it over and place it when it was ready. It was very heavy. Has wire mesh in it.

The edge of the dome is either over or close to the support of the cinder blocks.

@@MrGTMan002 Got it! Thank you. Just regular cement, nothing high temp? It looks like you put two layers of firebrick on top of that on the inside of the oven? Would love to know more about how you integrated the fire brick, oven, and cement countertop. Thanks for your time and insight, it is greatly appreciated.
@MrGTMan0022 жыл бұрын
@@timgeorge5090 the concrete countertop is just regular concrete mix from a bag. I added some mortar color to make it a darker grey color. On top of the counter the plan I was following called for a ceramic insulator board... That was expensive and hard to come by, so instead I mixed up more cement and vermiculite mix and use a form to make a base for the fire bricks that is about 1.5 inches thick. Fire brick on top.

Have you cooked anything else other than pizza in it?
@MrGTMan0022 жыл бұрын
I've cooked bread, panzerotti, and tried steak in there too. Pizza is my go to though.

Very nicely done....did you use the same mix for the floor??
@MrGTMan0023 жыл бұрын
Yes I did - I made a floor layer of cement / vermiculite, then added a layer of fire bricks on top. The countertop was made from concrete readymix.

Nice! What are the ratios of vermiculite and Portland cement? Also what temp does it reach ie. Highest?
@MrGTMan0023 жыл бұрын
I used a 3:1 ratio - 3 parts vermiculite to 1 part cement

Nice pizza oven - well done. What size gym ball did you use?
@MrGTMan0023 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure the size of the gym ball... The hole that I cut in the wood was 27.5" in diameter, so the ball's diameter would be a bit more than that when inflated firmly.
@MrGTMan0023 жыл бұрын
I would guess that the ball was a 65 or 75cm ball.
