One thing to consider is that flex duct isn't recommended for range hoods. The material can't withstand prolonged exposure to hot grease, cooking material, etc. It's actually banned + not up to code where I live. On the bright side, you could probably use rigid duct just with a 90 degree elbow. Otherwise it really looks great. Thanks for sharing.

We did end up using a rigid 90 degree elbow. I think it was after the video was filmed before we put the front on. We did not like the flex duct connection. And yes you’re right we read it’s not necessarily ideal because it can amplify noise but we haven’t had any issues. Thank you!

Plan means in advance, so adding prefix 'pre' is stupid. 'Pre' means before...So you planned before you planned🤣🤣🤣 Well done for your project, it is beautiful! I'm fitting my kitchen out all by myself and enjoying it.

I believe it's code not to use flexible ducting for your range hood???

Beautiful! Did you guys have to finish the roman clay with a protective coating so greasy or steam doesn't show on it? I read that Portola didn't recommend the roman clay for hoods or bathrooms.

I think it’s not recommended around stoves but not necessarily the hood. We didn’t seal it. We cook every single day at our stove and zero issues so far! It’s probably been close to 6 months.

We went with the 30”! The space between the cabinet is 48”

Hi, did you guys use Mdf for the front piece of the range hood? I am so confused, because online they say that the plaster won’t stick to mdf🤦🏻♀️

We DM’d portola paints when we were going to use MDF and they said it’s fine! We also primed first.

Good question! We didn’t. We picked out the Roman clay color based on our island color and they were such a close match we used our island paint on the crown there! You could probably color match any Roman clay color at the store too.

How many inches of clearance do you have between your stove and range? My ceilings are 84 inches total height and I’m having a dilemma finding a range short enough to give me at least 30” clearance!

We have 3’ of clearance between the range and the hood. Our hood is 2’ tall. We had no issues fitting it all with 8’ ceilings

Can you clean your plaster hood? I’m considering it but do worry about maintenance

I think so? I’m not positive though, we haven’t needed to clean up anything on it yet. Everything gets sucked into the vent hood!

I used Portola paints plaster on my fireplace, you can definitely wipe it down gently (I just use a dry or barely damp rag or duster mop to dust as needed) but I feel like any aggressive scrubbing would probably damage it. I used the sealer they sell as well. Definitely should not be scrubbing it with any chemicals either. I have been considering this for my range hood but still not sure….

Love the plaster hood, considering doing one myself, and the step by step instructions are amazing! One qustions. I read that the receptacle is supposed to be "accessible" based on electrical code but it looks like yours might be inside the hood. Did you find a workaround, like moving the receptacle to one of the upper cabinets or just kept it inside the plaster hood?

We kept it in the same spot! The outlet is still technically accessible since you can remove the hood unit from the underside

@@thelksaddressyou can’t remove the hood from the underside bc the flex tube above the hood is short and attached tightly. The front panel of the hood box should be designed to be removable.
