This looks great! . Exactly what I was looking for on KZfaq. Nice detailed video. Thanks you for taking the time to share this. We just lost our second fabric cover in the high winds here. Once I can determine how we can still use our screens, something like this will be built at our home. 😊

I’d like to do the same thing with my gazebo but I hesitate precisely because of the bigger size (10x14) and the wind which sometimes blows quite strongly. Even the cheapest hardtop models on the market have a much more robust structure and hardware. So, after more than 2 months, is everything still okay with your 10x14? Did you make any other changes?

I have a gazebo roof that i want to replace but for the life of me I can't figure out how to climb on top to take off the old panels and then get up again to put the new ones without falling through.

If it survives Quebec, it can survive New England. Going to try this. I wonder how to attach netting and fabric sides. A very well edited video. Well done! What are the dimensions of the major roof beams, 2x3 inches or the metric equivalent?

Hello Robert, your roof on the gazebo inspired me and my husband to do the same. We have some questions about installing the panels, where did you start and where did you measure from and make your cuts from......panels , flashing..etc. 10x12 To start out with!
@robertdeptula2003
@robertdeptula2003 3 жыл бұрын
Start in the middle. It will be easier to keep it straight. Go left and right from the middle. At the corners continue from the sides with corrugation, valley to valley, top to top. It is challenge to go around and meet the corrugation at the end. Choose the end corner that is less visible. I was off by less than 1/4 inch at the end. The panels are in different lengths. Choose those that will allow for less cuts and leftovers. Good luck!

@@robertdeptula2003 Thank you for the quick response.....my husband is placing the panels at the top marking and cutting for placement. so now the edge of the top will be uneven and long in places. His plan is to finish by trimming all panels all the way around. We have a bet! I believe that all cuts are only at the top. Did you do all cuts from the top, and if not how were you able to get such an even cut along the edges?

My neighbor's roof (on the still picture in the video) was done without taking it down to the ground. We put a piece of plywood on top of the jacuzzi inside and worked from there. You have to remember to use a big piece of plywood if you need to get on top of the panels to spread pressure evenly. For the materials, everything is mentioned, with links, somewhere in the comments to the first video when I answered questions. The only thing that I couldn't find the link to was the metal corner. I bought it in Home Depot Vaudreuil, Quebec, Canada.

What metal braces did you use at the Middle and Top corners? Is it a T or 2 pieces joint together to form a T? I bought some T’s but they won’t be easily bent. What type of wood paint did you use?
@robertdeptula2003
@robertdeptula2003 3 жыл бұрын
Those are Ts. I used vise and hammer to bend them. You need those Ts to be strong. The paint is universal for wood and metal in a spray can. Don't remember the brand.

Thank you so much for the excellent video. My soft top is a few years old and I am debating on buying a new top? replacing with hard top(like you did) or going the expense of of adding a 3 season room. I am told the 3 season room would be much harder to place on the deck because of the deck legs? apparently the walls of a 3 season need to be anchored to the ground. I am only planning a 10 x 10 as this divides the deck at the stairs leaving a screened room on one side and open air on the other. You video makes me think a new top is really all we need, at least for now. How is your gazebo hold up? What year did you build it?

Great video Robert, thanks for posting. I have a very large steel cabana with metal roof. The weight of the snow has bent some of the rails over the years. I installed six patio doors around the perimeter which gives it more strength but I'm still concerned about the overall weight especailly with the snow load, and I'm tired of taking the snow off all the time. I was thinking of doing exactly what you did although I may screw the panels right into the exsisting steel beams. I suspect the snow just slides off in the winter? Do you find it too warm if the sun is out? I installed reflective layer of styrofoam under my metal roof. The metal roof got so hot in summer you would just bake like sitting in an oven. I guess my biggest concern would be the heat (although great in spring and fall) and perhaps a hailstorm hehe. I must say it looks really nice!!
@robertdeptula2003
@robertdeptula2003 3 жыл бұрын
You can buy white panels that will not heat up so much like those in the video. The snow stays on the roof, but the panels are strong and don't bend. As soon as there is a little bit of sun the snow slides off of the roof. In "about" section there is my e-mail. Write to me and I will send you some winter pictures of the roof.

Thank you for your good words. No, I don't have any diagrams. It was a "cut as you go" project. The screws are sold by the same company as the panels. In your home improvement store, the screws should be next on the shelf to the panels. Good luck!

I am not suggesting how anybody should do it. In this video I share my take on it. The reason I didn't drive the screws to the aluminium frame was that I didn't want to weaken the structure making many holes in it. I preferred to brace wooden beams to the metal frame and drive all the screws to the wooden beams. What you will do is up to you.

What were the measurements of the panel cuts
@robertdeptula2003
@robertdeptula2003 2 жыл бұрын
Panel cuts depend on the specific model of the gazebo. Measure your gazebo, check what size panels you can buy and this way determine what cuts must be made in the specific case. It is not one size fits all.

I didn't have a Gazebo for the longest time because those cloth tops are notorious for tearing. I found a used gazebo in great shape for cheap, without the cloth top, and bought it with plans to do exactly this. I am also from Quebec. Where did you finally buy the panels? Are they polycarbonate or PVC? PVC is cheaper, but I am worried about it's ability to survive a winter. I am expecting a hard top roof like this to cost between $500-$700?
@robertdeptula2003
@robertdeptula2003 4 жыл бұрын
Those are polycarbonate. I don't think that PVC will hold for the winter. I bought the panels at reno depot. From time to time they have 20% off when you spend a certain amount. If I remember well the panels cost me about 350 - 400.The steel corners are from Home Depot. Good luck!
