Im going to use that as a secondary snare, using neck snares for hogs, going to use a leg also on a few set's with a bent sapling for the spring !!!Your trigger will work well with that. The leg snare will be used off of the neck snare to try and snare a leg while fighting the neck snare.Thanks Man !!

That trigger mechanism is brilliant. I would modify the design by using a suspended weight, attached to the snare closing line, instead of an elastic band, which could weaken or snap after some exposure to weather. With a suspended weight set up to close the snare, the trap could sit for weeks and retain all its energy when the tripwire is finally pushed by a passing animal.

Dude, you can simply attach your snare cable to the tree that the trigger nail is in. That makes your cable a LOT shorter. Shorter is better because it gives the animal less distance to run and yank and also it shortens the let up on the cable so your rubber tubing yanks that cable higher off the ground. Not to mention it saves on all that extra cable you have to haul around.

A " Breakaway" connector can be a simple key ring loop. It will.straignten out w enough pressure applied.

I'm still looking for the best break away device to use, to keep critter from breaking or wearing out the bungy or spring.

I was thinking fishing line for a breakaway. Whatever lb test works best for your engine. Unless your engine is a pulley system in which case it could double as a relief spring depending on the conditions. Really enjoying your content brother. Especially in this dying world.🙏

Hey Home Boy! I am from Fayette AL. and used to have friends in Jasper, Maybe you ,know or knew Mike Gray? He would be about 55-60 now? I enjoyed your vid and like the term "Grid-Down", How many times have you heard ole boys talking trash, most saying..."Hell, if anything like that happened I would live on deer meat", I tell them they would be lucky to see a deer in the daytime much less get a shot at one, I explained that the increased pressure at non-traditional times of the year would send all of them to a purely nocturnal schedule in a matter of days... Deer Track stew is mighty thin.... Only a few get enlightened to my methods around my home here in Arkansas, I explained to them and have shown many that using cable snares set at "Deer Neck Height" , anchored with a good swivel or ground anchor will work for you 24 hours a day, I tell folks that snares are a "Numbers Game", a trapper/harvester/survivalist should be able to carry, set , scent , bait or funnel, wildlife into their snare in just a couple of minutes, carrying supplies for at least 100 3/32"" aircraft cable snares, quite capable of catching and killing a deer or hog sized animal. large swivels on anchor end, bailing wire and some reflective flagging tape , deer in estrus or simply some cover up , small hatchet, cable cutters, knife, crimp tool for aluminum ferrules, Ferrules, J-Hooks, 3/8" Stainless steel washers, a small Stanley "Push Drill" and several sharp 7/64"" bits and a small metal punch to make slide locks. A nice set of quality lineman's pliers, sharp multi-blade pocket knife, Bic lighter , fire starter, and a good handheld GPS, I have a good GPS with easy to learn functions practically invaluable for locating sets in the gnarliest of woods that start looking the same.... I also think that 3/32" cable is plenty strong enough for hogs, deer, coyotes and foxes. Truth be told, 1/16" cable is probably strong enough too and being thinner it chokes harder than thicker cable does. The ONLY time I have ever seen a need for larger snare cable is for a Wolf. They are inhumanly strong and persistent., what they cant spin, twist, or pull off or apart they will chew through given enough time and access "No-Kill type snares"? Nah... I prefer to choke em out with locking devices, its more humane, no messed up pelts or adrenaline stinking meat due to flailing about on a piece of wire....3/32" with stop locks will choke anything that needs choking fast, before they can damage the cable or hardware if you set them up properly. Time and time again I have proved how effective these snares are for deer, I will crimp a stop ferrule on the choker loop about deer neck size and this will prevent killing the animal for demonstration purposes or catching hogs, even demonstrating this in all states is illegal and can get you in trouble...I do and did it (Simulated, cough...cough...) on my own property on my own deer herd to show close friends how it works. Set at dusk and checked at dawn, a little sweet feed or a few peeled apples, a good swivel setup and a 18-20" deep ground anchor most times I will simply walk slowly up to the bedded down deer and have been able to remove the snare without cutting it they were so tired. I have also walked up on them with their head down, standing there like a tired cow, these have a little more thunder and lightening left in them, be careful, I have been kicked a few times and cut twice by hooves. Having a good lasso and knowing how to hog-tie a critter is handy to immobilize them without you or the deer getting hurt. If you are harvesting animals for meat this is a nice way to pick and choose say old barren does or some smaller bucks whom you wish to cull. A .22 Magnum handgun is fast, quiet with the new bonded self defense type 50-55gr. bullets, very humane and wastes no meat with head shots. Same K.I.S.S. principle with squirrels, they are smart and perceptive to hunting pressure and changes to schedules, say an "Grid-Down" situation, a backpack full of those big Victor rat traps, a cordless drill , Phillips head bit, some sheet rock screws, a small jar of Jiff Peanut Butter and you have become the most effective squirrel hunter in the woods without firing a round or fussing about with tiny size snares. To keep them from splitting, Simply drill an 1/8" hole in front and rear of trap, countersink a little for neatness sake, screw the rat traps to the tree about 6' high to keep most predators away from them after they are whacked, a smear of peanut butter on the tree and the bait trigger of the trap...You get the idea, same drill, set them at dusk, check them at the crack of the crack so as not to waste any meat to birds , flies or any other meat stealer's. Squirrels don't seem to mind the smell of dead brethren and moving traps is not necessary unless you have trapped out an area and need to move them due to marginalized animal populations. I personally think taking a single deer vs. 30-40 squirrels is the more ecologically sound harvest. But, its fun and a good way to get your freezer full of squirrels for frying and gravy making. I soak them in trap dye to make them stand out less when they are new, a shot or spritz of camo paint works too, squirrels don't seem to mind the smell of Krylon or Rustoleum spray paint, the Jiff gets them running....VOC's be damned....Good luck and remember, "A Hungry Dog Hunts Harder" :) Roll Tide Brother... I'm trying to catch a lost dog that will not go in any of my box traps or enclosure rrap. I really like this and want to attempt for a safe capture.. question - what if the snare goes around both front legs?

Meat Trapper: Is "gravity" fast enough? Instead of elastic tension providing the pull, what about a falling weight (pulley or bar involved) ? A falling weight (detergent bottle full of rocks, etc. doesn't seem to have the speed an elastic cord or spring's have. Any thoughts?

Seems like a falling weight on a string through a spit ring for a pulley of sorts could replace the power of the rubber band and thats cheap to replace.

Most Home Depot have similar tubing that I use for my spear fishing pole spear that I’m sure it would work for this as well, it’s fairly cheap and has a strong pull

that is a neat I have to say we have used window weights for out in the feild snaring for rabbits with no trees around. that was neat as kids am sure you have your way of snaring with no trees around I would like to see it if you don't mind with out the spring assistance. great video sir
