Before throwing on the color dye after the initial bleaching, soak it in a hydrogen peroxide and water mix to neutralize the bleach so it doesn’t eat away the color dye

Finally, a decent tutorial! I’m constantly scratching my head when I watch others. I just watch them to see what other people are doing. I tie dye almost daily (since I sell them). But I hardly do reverse tie dye. The only thing I would suggest is that after you wash the bleach off, you soak the shirt in soda ash for 20 minutes before you tie it up and add the color. Everything came out so beautiful!!
@delongkw20114 жыл бұрын
Also, came here to suggest washing out the bleach and then soaking in soda ash. Will keep your colors vibrant and from fading
@lisavaningen17022 жыл бұрын
What kind of dye would you recommend? :)
@jenniferclements351 Жыл бұрын
Was reading through the comments to see if there was anything about soda ash - but even without, these came out pretty vibrant!
@cocacolafiesta20 күн бұрын
@@jenniferclements351Soda ash is necessary as it makes the dye bond with the fabric. Rinsing it in cold water first will remove any soda ash to stop it from activating the dye in your lighter colors. Using a hydrogen peroxide solution (1 part hydrogen peroxide to 10 parts water) immediately after rinsing the bleach is NECESSARY to stop the bleach from staying active which will make holes in your fabric even after being washed.

Omg! This video is exactly what I was looking for! I love how you added the color dye powder to tweak the colors! So fabulous! How you explain creating the different patterns. Your specific directions while demonstrating the technique for creating each pattern (folding, wet or dry fabric, etc.) is so helpful! I totally feel like I can create my own perfect design.

This is not Jacquard dye what you showed is "procion fiber reactive dye" which is the right dye you used....Jacquard dye is made by the same company but for synthetic fabrics...The Procion Fiber Reactive Dye is for natural fabrics like cotton...also after you bleach the black fabric soak it in soda ash and the colors will be brighter and vibrant with this type of dye ...the soda ash makes the cotton fabric more porous...I really like the pastel colors but they will ash out and/or fade if you don't use soda ash for 20 minutes FYI A cup of baking soda on a cookie sheet for 45 min at 450 degrees in the oven makes "soda ash" then mix the cup of soda ash with 1 gallon of warm water...stir and dissolve the soda ash ...also you can reuse it so save the soda ash water in a gallon jug for future dye projects.soda ash water could be used to rinse the bleach off or just soak it before you dye it I swear it makes a huge difference and the color will last after washing also if you sprinkle the dye powder then set pieces of ice to melt it has a really awesome effect

Great tutorial! Gonna trie it on a red dress thats been a bit ruined by dry cleaning. Two questions: 1. When you are satified with the colours you dont put the piece in some plastic, so you leave it out to dry in the open air? 2. How long do you leave it before you wash it out? With the paint I use for my regular tie dye I leave it overnight in plastic for 12 -20 hours.
