Great videos. Thought I'd share and say that when I mixed the rit dye with the acetone it turned blue. I ended up using denatured alcohol instead and was able to get that Russian red I wanted

After sanding you can raise the grain by wiping the wood with a rag soaked in warm water. Allow to dry and lightly sand with the grain, then go to the tack cloth. Store used cloth in a Baggie.

I have discovered that Solar Lux Blood Red dye does the same thing without all the fuss. Just apply the dye to sanded unfinished furniture until you get the desired color depth. Let dry and then finish with 6 coats of poly.

I've mixed the scarlet rit dye and acetone twice and it comes out blue is the dye i used defective or something?

Buy 'vintage' rit dye off ebay to avoid the new formula issue. Apperently the new stuff is only water soluble. It needs to be able to be diluted in a petroleum based solvent like acitone in order to be compatible with the oil based eurothane. If you use the new formula you will be all messed up. No problem finding it in 2021.
