So... by putting water in to the tank, as is more dense than the gases, you can ensure that nothing is left in to the bottle and you just do it extreme enough without loosing any part of your body by a explosion.

+crazybird2007 because creating a pressurized vessel without having the welds/construction certified is totally above board.
@big65mopar
@big65mopar 7 жыл бұрын
Filling the tanks with water prevents any residual gasses from igniting and exploding during the cutting process. While you are right that the welds should be certified for pressure vessels the tanks he's made are not critical use and the rubber diaphragms at the top will leak pressure as the material he used is not necessarily rated for moderate to high PSI. Still though I would have tig welded the work instead of mig welding it because mig welds are not rated for the kind of strengths required for pressure vessels as is tig and stick welding.

@big65mopar
@big65mopar 5 жыл бұрын
@@freelectron2029 Guess you don't think do you. Mig welds are not used in critical welding in military applications and nuclear applications because the welds are not on the same level of reliability as stick or tig. Filling the tanks with water reduces and or eliminates the volume of potential explosive gas, this is something done on fuel tanks. Not all rubber material is made the same so it's not rated the same nor can it be used in all applications involving pressurized gasses / liquids.

haters are going to hate on genius... yea they use some convenient tools but for the most part you could make this for way less then 50g. yea some money in tools. plasma cutter $250, mig welder $550, drill press $100, the lathe is not needed, the roller not needed, drill bits for drill, metal chop saw $300. then its just material. yea those are cheap tools but hey, you don't always need to pick you kids up in a rolls royce...

Replace plasma with an angle grinder, you could probably get by with a cheap arc welder, a few drill bits and such. I still don't understand the reasoning behind cutting the whole tank in half. Why not just have an opening that you can seal with a valve for loading, and just lightly blow it out before closing it?
@big65mopar
@big65mopar 7 жыл бұрын
You don't need a fully equipped shop to make your own, I've made various tools without a fully equipped shop and just finished making a metal brake, tool cart, and fence stretcher with nothing more than a drill, drill bits, angle grinder with cutting wheel and a hobby mig welder.
@big65mopar
@big65mopar 7 жыл бұрын
Cutting the tanks in half makes a larger container allowing for more blast media. He could have did away with this step by going with 2 large 4ft tall tanks but those are not as common or cheap as the standard backyard BBQ tanks that he used.

Loved watching this build. Had a thought you should make something to recover the abrasive material after use, would save in cost of replacing it.
