How about just extend the handle and the base to help prevent pinching your hand?

Or.... Put another bend 90 degrees up and make the horizontal part of the handle a bit wider .... then grip the upward handle with your forearm resting on the current handle part. This would allow you to use your upper body weight for leverage.

Put a depression/dent into the side of the can before crushing. That will weaken the can and reduce the required force.

@kamleo1685
@kamleo1685 2 жыл бұрын
@@tuforu4 There is a "/" separator between the two words. That is shorthand for "or". Now to create one of those depressions or dents take your thumb and press into the side of the can. With a little bit of force you will create a depression. Use more force and you will create a dent.

My God this is soooo primitive. For +40 yrs we have had a mandatory deposit (return fee) on all aluminium cans and plastic bottles in my country (northern Europe). Also all domestically glass bottles (that started this mandatory arrangement) are recycled. How it works: absolutely every grocery store that sell cans/bottles (soda, beer, etc) have a return machine (Tomra) where you get the deposit back before everything is automatically crushed and sorted. Result: it's extremely seldom you find cans/bottles as trash in nature or cities, resource and energy use is minimized, and a whole set income-generating jobs is generated, i.e. a win-win. But ofc this system would questionably work in a third world country ....
@WoodsmithShowandmagazine
@WoodsmithShowandmagazine 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, same here... we have a mandatory deposit (in the state we are located) on cans and electronic redemption centers in grocery stores, but right now we also have a pandemic raging where we are located, so I’m not real keen on spending any extra time in crowded grocery stores and redeeming cans where I’m in contact with other people’s saliva-contaminated cans. I’d rather just throw them in my personal recycling bin with our other recyclables. The point of this project was less about the technology, but more about the journey of building a project with my kids. It was very educational and entertaining for them to learn about basic construction techniques, simple machines, and general physics. It is important to keep young, curious minds active, especially when they can’t be in school.
@SteifWood
@SteifWood 3 жыл бұрын
@@WoodsmithShowandmagazine Hmmm? 1) depending on where you are in my country we have regulations on how many ppl can be in a grocery store at time, 2) I don't foresee myself licking on other ppls cans at the deposit machine, nor any other place for that matter (besides, I'm quite sure a mask, gloves and antiseptic is enough to keep me clean), 3) here ALL kids are and have been in school throughout the pandemic and the "need" for extra stimuli during these times hasn't and isn't necessary,,, however, I can see the need for general stimuli on the creative side, and PS) we have had and still have the 2nd lowest number of cases/deaths pr inhabitants in the western world,,, merry xmass (yessss, Santa brought the vaccines) and a (differently virus-free) happy new yr
