I have never and will never purchase from Temu or any other ‘Knock off’ website. As a small business owner myself, I always buy from the original creator; ie Lawn Fawn, Altenew, Hero Arts, Honeybee, Picket Fence, Simon, Pinkfresh, etc. I shop sales as much as possible, but I also buy at full price. Thank you for calling out the ‘fakes’.

Yes! Also buyer beware. Back in 2019 I bought a load of stuff from a brand company here in Oz when they were closing one of their stores. although that was not a knock-off brand, the stamps were acrylic. I also bought memento ink to use with those acrylic stamps. It was a whole learning curve to realise that I needed different inks AND PHOTOPOLYMER STAMPS to get a decent end result. I wonder how many of the knock-off stamps are acrylic or some other inferior material?

Good for you for putting it in front of folks regarding the theft of product designs. And the topic of entitlement … seemingly a huge issue in many arenas in our culture these days. Patience is a process to be practiced I have been told !!🤣🤣 I have found a wonderful way to get ‘new’ products is to trade with other crafty friends! We also host an annual Crafter’s Garage Sale. I would rather sell something for a dollar or two and have it go to an appreciative new home, than not be used! We now have people that wait for our sale each year, and their appreciation is so apparent! And I love clearing out unused products! Thanks for sharing g your talent and opinion with us!!🧑🏼‍🎨😀👍🏻

That is a good idea. Something I have seen done by some is to purge a few craft items and send them to new crafters to help them get started on their stash. Chatting on the live videos can help you get to know these ones. You just have to watch out for scammers.

Agreed that buying knock offs is intellectual theft. As an option for those who truly have very little to spend on crafts, set aside a little at a time and look for sales or older wonderful products on clearance sales. I love being able to enjoy new releases, but getting older sets means there are likely to be many videos available on how to use the older sets. Kelly I thought I knew what you were going to talk about and I have one word for you.....BRAVO!!!!! I think that everyone at one point in their life have knowingly bought or obtained something that was pirated. Whether it was computer software (which once upon a time was easily copied and distributed),VHS (maybe before your time), music cassettes, music cd's,...etc. because we thought we deserved to have it and those greedy corporations wanted to make money hand over fist. But you are right, we aren't entitled to work stolen from someone else. It especially hits home when it happens to someone you know. My friend invented the original poop moose. (I know, but it really was a thing) and he patented it. He at one time had at least 6 employees and it made a nice income for him. But it was copied and manufactured and sold at Walmart and other places. Yes, he could have sued for patent infringement but that takes time and a lot of money. I really appreciate that you came right out and named companies. When I was first crafting I didn't realize that Ali Express and Wish were those type of companies ( I don't think I ever bought from them) but then I heard a utuber mention them in connection with stolen designs and so I never bothered to shop there.Temu is a no brainer because you could never sell stuff for that cheap if you had to spend the money on creating it. If people unsubscribe to you then so be it. Do you really want them watching your video's? I didn't think so. I think I first heard of Temu about 2 years ago and the stuff looked great. But then someone commented that he/she doesn't subscribe to anyone who does Temu hauls because of how they came by their designs. That made me really think and I decided I didn't want to help anyone out by being subscribed to them or giving them watch hours if they support Temu. Sorry for a novel length comment (though I am sure there will be lot's of others with long comments) I listened to your video on my drive home from work so I will have to go back and watch to see you ink blending on velum without leaving finger prints.

I try to add items to my wishlist and then when a sale is advertised I try to JUST check to see if those items are on sale. Just like my mom used to take us to Macys to visit a dress or outfit she liked and see if it had been marked down yet.

Thank you for speaking out on the Temu issue. People just don't understand when I tell them that Temu etc are stealing the designer's art work and making dies and stamps super cheap. I am a retiree on a fixed income and I would rather go without than have to buy from companies like that. I am not one to go without, but I would if I can't afford to buy it from a reputable company or brick and mortar store! I guess I also feel passionate about this topic

I definitely agree with supporting our local vendors. I do also know that a person or company only has to change 20% of the original to get around copyright rules. Or so I've been told... that makes it real easy to steal a lot of ideas. And it goes both ways.

I will admit before I realized it was ripping companies off I did buy from there. I also discovered pretty quickly size and quality was not the same. And for me I'm finding unused horde of craft supplies reduced once I stopped ordering from those sites. I now watch for, sales, products I know I will use, and from companies that I want to see around in 10-20 years.

Good reminder about the “theft” of property! I purchased a stamp set from Amazon thinking it was a name brand set - it was NOT! I was stunned - it was a not from the original “company” I thought it should be. It was slightly off - I ended up re-purchasing the stamp set from the correct company along with matching dies. Then it was the right image and the die actually lined up (as it should). I do my best to always go direct to the company - I looked at Temu and the overall pricing 21:36 didn’t make sense. Also I had a very poor experience with a company based in china that couldn’t care less about customer service and the overall quality of their product. The experience reminded me why I want to support USA based companies who care about their quality, customer service, and products. I agree - there are a lot of sales and it’s easy to purchase directly from the original company. YOU GO GIRL! Love the balloon cards!!! As always thanks for the reminders……..

Kelly, love your heart, passion, and integrity. One of my friend showed me her temu stash. As soon as she did, I explained to her why I would never buy from them or other sites like them. She had no clue that they were stealing designs. Wish there was some way to let people know. You speaking up is one way. Thank you!

Gorgeous cards, and totally agree! People should save up, or get things in sales! When I first started crafting, I searched for videos, saw people were using Ali Express, bought some stamps and dies that didn't work, and then found out that they were knock off! You're not even saving money if they don't work! I could only find one original craft shop on there! I unfollow people that do Temu hauls, and if I see KZfaqrs using knock off, I report them! I'm local to Lavinia Stamps here in Wales, and it's heartbreaking to see their stuff being stolen left right and centre! We're living in an age where we don't just get the product, but we're getting a ton of tutorials at our fingertips to help us on our creative journey, that's value for money many times over! ❤

Hi Kelly, thought I should comment on your talk about Temu and similar online stores. I will be honest with you, I have bought from Temu in the past and here is my reason for doing so. Most of the craft suppliers have received a fair share of my hard earned dollars and I too only buy when I have the money that I stashed away in my craft account. But here is a perspective from an international viewer. When I have to add the dollar exchange rate plus the rediculous USPS shipping costs to my prospective purchase I will think long and hard before buying. A lot of the products are not readily available in our country. eg. I looked everywhere in my local stores and online and was unable to find this one particular item of clothing that I needed for my uniform. I tried Temu and low and behold I found exactly what I was looking for. When I received my article it came quickly and from within the country I live in. The quality was good and in fact I will probably purchase another as a spare. I do feel sorry for the small companies doing it tough but so are a lot of our citizens and if I can save just a bit of my hard earned cash I will. Will I still buy from craft companies in the future, of course I will. Will I buy from Temu if it’s a last resort, yes. Will I still watch your videos, most definitely. I enjoy listening to your stories. American culture is so different from ours here and I find it interesting to hear how Americans live. Keep up the great content you create in your craft.

I agree with you Kelly. I bought a house which has put me into a spending freeze for my crafty products. I allow myself occasional purchases or wait for sales which may mean getting things off season but each season repeats so my next "holiday" may be from the previous year. I support certain small businesses when possible.

Thank you for your well-worded statements. I'm also a knitter and that industry has dealt with knockoffs, scams, and cheap-but-low-quality for a long time as well. It's been sad to see designers I love stop publishing because no one wants to pay them for the time it takes to put out a well written, well tested pattern.

When I first started making cards years ago, I didn't realize there were wonderful online stores. I bought stamps from Hobby Lobby and michaels. I wasn't satisfied so I stopped buying. I found some stamp and die sets on Amazon for cheap. Yay right! Nope, they didn't die cut properly and were cheap silicone or acrylic that didn't stick to a stamp block after one or two uses. Crap. So I stopped. Did some investigating and found the wonderful online stores that we all know and love. Then I learned about stamp and die theft. I wonder if some people do not know about the theft? We all know there are those that do know and still buy from Allie express, Amazon, and now temp. Obviously, it doesn't bother them, but I am happy that I learned about the theft. I wasted a lot of money by buying the "cheaper" junk (I bought many things at one shot off of amazon), and it was all junk. You get what you pay for. Cute cards, Kelly! Thanks for hopefully making others aware of the theft. I just bought $500.00 of products from pink fresh so I'm super excited to get started using them!...and I do not even feel guilty for buying that much at one time.

Totally agree with you. I had seen another video by someone over a year ago who talked about certain companies stealing designs. She named Ali and Amazon also. I am on a budget, but I’m one who saves my pennies and gets only when I can from the original designers and companies. I’m not able to get all that I want, but I have plenty to be creative with and enjoy my happy place. I love this way of coloring the vellum BTW.

I did. I bought from Amazon & Temu knock-offs & regretted it! Not just because the quality was horrible but because of EXACTLY what you said: I want to support the REAL industry that I LOVE!! I now shop the sales and different websites and I wait to get the beautiful and amazing products from the original creators/companies. I do look for alternatives to some specialty items...I bought a magnetic glass white board instead of a glassboard studio surface. I do wish more craft supplies (like dies) were made in the USA though. I love the cards! The colored vellum is something I really must try! ❤

@@kiminalaska9363there are some shops selling name “brand items” on Amazon that are knock offs in packaging that has been copied. I email the branded company & ask if that shop is authorized to sell their product. I don’t buy craft items unless I click from the branded company’s website.

100% agree! I’m so sick and tired of seeing these “companies” stealing. The dollar store is another one that participates in the theft. Another way we can help the original owners is to report the theft to the company so they can report the copyright violations.

Another way to help is to buy 'made in America' products, regardless of the shopping site. Tell American craft companies to stop manufacturing overseas for pennies, then punishing American crafters by marking up prices to the point sites like Temu and Ali express are even an option.

I agree with what you are saying…………a lot of you top crafters get sent dies stamps and supplies from the top designers at no cost to them so that means they can afford other things … just saying 😊

They do...and if you are watching their free KZfaq content you are helping in a small way so that they can continue to provide that free content. The company is trying to make money so they can stay afloat by sending the free products to people like Kelly to let us know that they have these products. There is nothing wrong with that. Kelly is making a little off of that if we click from her video and make a purchase from that company...as she should. She and other youtubers put a lot of work, time and effort into editing and uploading these videos so that we have a reference point if we buy those products. That is honestly how I find the products that I purchase. I don't have the time to sit down for hours and scroll thru simon, ppp, honey bee, gina k and all the sites. And a bonus for me, Kelly and all of my top favs are my entertainment. I never watch TV I just watch crafting youtubers. Another example is when I first started making cards, I didn't know about these wonderful online REAL craft stores. I thought the only place to buy stamps was Hobby Lobby and michaels and unfortunately, Amazon. My first online store I found was simon says stamp. I investigated and discovered the selection was outstanding AND the quality was excellent and I never bought another acrylic or silicone stamp set again. Thank you Kelly and all of the others that continue to bring us great content. Whether you are labeled an "enabler" or not I love that you give us such great content and the ability to see a product in action. Before I ever make a purchase I make myself try to come up with multiple ways that I can use that product to get my money's worth. If I can't get creative with it in my head then I pass it by.

I love how passionately and eloquently you addressed this issue of theft from these sleazy overseas companies. Never have or will buy from any of them and, as you said, if I don't want to spend the amount of money at a particular moment that a legitimate company is asking for their products, I either save up or wait for sales. There is absolutely no justification for knowingly ripping off these companies that for the most part are small or "mom and pop" businesses. They are hugely important for the US economy and I have an immense amount of respect for a creative person making a living from their own designs. Please inform, how are shoppers supposed to know when a stamp, die or craft tool has been stolen from an American creator or designer? Unless a shopper has some special power to know that what they see on overseas sites is something that originated in North America, how is one to know? What is the process shoppers should go through to figure out what is "theft"? I would very much like for U. S. based companies to stop manufacturing in sleazy foreign factories for dirt cheap, and then gouge American crafters for swelling profit margins. It's a situation, isn't it?

Many years ago I bought a stamp set from wish before I learned what they do. The dies did not match the stamps and the quality of the stamps was poor. I definitely learned my lesson. You get what you pay for.

Lisa Yang (Local King Rubber Stamp) saw some of her new designs on one of these sites and so she bought a set. She said they were so horrible that she wasn't concerned about losing customers to them. They would only buy from that place once.

Very well said on using the knock off dies and stamps. If you wait, the stamp companies put lots of their product on sale. I buy my Christmas stamps in February when they are cleaning house to make room for new products.

Hi Kelly I don’t chime in often because I watch through my tv. But I have to support your pleas to support our industry. Prior to being educated about the sale of stolen items I bought a set of markers. They were a mess and junky. So what I saved was nothing because I could not return them. Since I have learned of how these companies steal from hard working people in all types of businesses. Then a craft owner was a victim of a theft of her dies and stamps. She had no recourse because the collaborator that was reselling stolen items didn’t care. Hearing from a local crafter made the pain real. So thank you for standing up for our industry leaders. I am trying to save ahead so when that special sale is there I am a bit ready. I share this hoping it will help people see a real situation that affects real people.

I’m sure you read my comment the other day about how expensive sets are. However, please know that I do not ever purchase from Temu or any other company like that. I agree with you, my sense of what is right and wrong will not let me buy from a company that steals from other companies! I also had no idea that they pay people to do those “ Temu hauls” videos. What happened to integrity? I just know I have to slow down my purchasing to pay for some of these marvelous sets or bundles because I cannot be part of a scam. You get what you pay for! I agree with you. I have been cardmaking for 8 years now and have seen quite a few small companies go out of business. I feel badly for them. Also, I note that the smaller companies always send a card in your orders thanking you for your business and that means allot. I am on a fixed income and I do wait for the sales or the coupons. Just got a set of the Distress Pencils on a great sale and was doing a jig because have wanted them since they came out. I appreciate you going to bat for the industry and thank you for your lovely cards.

Sad to say, I bought from one of those places. I was told that they carried all the “retired” overstock items. But then one day while shopping I saw a new release set! 😮 so I researched. I decided not to purchase from them any longer. And I realized the quality is definitely not the same. Plus ideas and inspiration. Hate that I contributed but no longer. Im glad you told us. For a few of us, we were just deceived.

I have to admit I purchased some tops from temu when they first popped up. I ended up sending almost all of them to goodwill. The fabrics were awful. But, I never felt comfortable about the purchase so I’ve never bought from them again, especially after seeing some of my favorite dies listed on their site. Thank you for explaining all of this. I do want to support this industry.

I agree with you 100% about those companies named. Many years ago I was about to place an order with one of them but I ran across someone talking about this same issue and I never placed the order and I will never support that kind of behavior. I also would like to address the issue of card companies or stamp designers that use other people’s “terminology or song lyrics” as their own. I’ve seen it just this week and that disturbs me because I know that didn’t get approval from the person that created it. That being said I totally agree with you wholeheartedly. People who buy this stuff have no convictions until it is done to them.

I love your fearlessness on speaking your mind about this! A very eye opening perspective for many I’m sure. Many people cry poor and say they can’t afford things, but are going through the Starbucks drive through every day of the week. Some genuinely can’t afford, but as you said, no one is entitled. I personally have never bought anything from those sketchy websites nor will I ever. There are beautiful things on clearance at the original shops for really great prices and I feel like “new” in this industry when speaking of stamps, dies, stencils and the like are always new to me if I didn’t already own it! It’s not like fashion or cars for example where styles and technology changes so frequently. Anyway, these cards are beautiful as always and thank you for giving the insight and a swift kick to those who needed it! 😂

Good for you for speaking out about an issue that is affecting so many craft companies, as well as so many other industries. We need to get back to Made in America. There are so many things I'd like to buy, but when I see where it's made, I immediately do not buy it. If I can find it, I will only buy made in America. I hate that so many of our great companies are losing to countries that steal from us. Hopefully, many who were not aware of the situation before watching your video will stop buying from Temu and Amazon now that they have heard the truth.

I 💯 agree with your statements in this video. Although I do think there were some points missed, it's not just the Chinese ripping off products and ideas. As a very close friend has a small craft business in Australia that has international customers I know how they have released products that are world first only to be copied by American craft businesses within 3 months of them being released. With no contact or thoughts on how this company can put in two years of research and development into the products. This can be just as deviating as your Temu example.

There are similar shops on amazon too. I was on a hunt for a discounted die set a few year back and found it on amazon. When I received it it was an unbranded set. I was so furious I have yet to use it. I have a friend that doesn’t understand my stance.

100% accurate and spot on. BUT, that's not the only problem, to be fair. The cost of everything right now is hurting "non-essential" companies. Thousands are closing or reducing their stores, inventory, and sadly, employees. I'm fortunate to still purchase from all my favorite craft companies, but that window is closing with the cost. I won't be buying stolen merchandise, I'll have to just quit the craft. After several years, and all the fun and friends made, walking away is gonna hurt. AI will eventually effect designers and artists if it hasn't already.....tragic.

I only started crafting last year and haven’t bought one item from Temu etc. my friend gave me a stamp set she had bought from Ali something and I could not get it to stamp and gave up trying with stamps for a few months. I got a couple of stamp and die sets from the clubs with spellbinders and changed my mind completely, they stamp like a dream. I still don’t stamp much but know I won’t purchase cheap imitations. Ps; I love your cupcake set. Xx

Kelly - I wanted to wait until I was not so upset to share my thoughts regarding the 'It's Killing Our Industry'. I have no doubt that it is impacting the Industry - but that isn't the only thing that is. There are many costs that have increased over the last couple of years and couple that with those that purchase 'online' it has hit the bottom line. For that - I am sorry. BUT there is a side which you may not be aware of that impacts us as consumers. Let's just take a random figure for a set of dies. Say $30 USD to that add $9 for exchange then shipping $15 USD add $4.50 then add the charges once it crosses the border. We often get stung with processing fees and duty - which can be around $25 - So add all that up and it is over $80 dollars. That is why I try not to buy from the USA.

The extra cost because of where you live should not drive any crafter to buy from a company selling stolen designs. Many of the small craft stores in other countries are offering to order what you are interested in of a specific company to save you some of the extra fees imposed by your country all you have to do is ask if they can get it.

I pin a lot on Pinterest to inspire myself and keep track of my supplies. Companies have started distorting their images because of theft. I don’t blame them but it makes it difficult when you want to see your products without digging them out. Great cards, by the way

I am of the same opinion when it comes to stolen designs. I put aside so much each week towards my supply addiction (just trying to be funny), and once I save up enough and there's a sale, I purchase what I want. Ok, in full transparency, I don't always wait for a sale. Two things I do not tolerate in life are liars and thieves, I never have nor ever will purchase counterfeit supplies.

Beautiful cards. Thank you so much for addressing the theft that is going on it is heartbreaking. The quality of products from sites selling stolen work is not the same quality as legitimate original products. In addition if a company is willing to steal artwork to sell they will also certainly steal your credit card information. When you know better you do better❤.
