My inner seamstress does cringe at the use of fabric glue instead of needle and thread. However, my inner college student thinks you're brilliant. That being said, the college student wins over the seamstress any day. Thank you.

There is a glue made here in America called hem a mend it holds all kinds of fabrics and holds up to 20 pounds.

You know, I know how to sew, but I just don't seem to have the patience for it anymore... I think I might want to try some things now that you put the glue idea in my head...

So would it be overkill to use the glue for durability but still add some visible stitches to make it look more improvised and patchwork?

Not a problem. I've used stitching for aesthetic reasons a lot .

"fallen so far apart that they can never be worn again" I am shocked to hear that from a STEAMPUNK artist! There is ALWAYS a way! IMO, the more times you repair something, the cooler it gets in this genre...... >:)
