In today's video we're building out a DIY movable studio backdrop which is double sided, and can act as a room divider! We built this wall for our basement studio to separate the utility room from the filming space.

I had a friend who was a union set carpenter who would have done it all with a circular saw and a power drill in an afternoon, or maybe in a couple of hours. He amazed me. But you, my semi professional carpenter friends did an awesome job of overthinking, over-engineering, overbuilding and over-perfecting this project. Great video as always.

That turned out great!!! I built one like this (also a black wall) with a steel frame. Due to the strength of the steel, I didn’t have to add angle support on the corners, it’s just a flat piece sticking out about 1 foot or so on both sides, just enough to keep it from tipping over. Attached a bracket at the very top in the center to connect a light. It’s on a hinge and sticks out roughy 1.5 feet. Flagged it off so it doesn’t spill on the wall much unless I want it to. My regret is using cheap paint and no primer on the OSB board. It took a lot of coats to get it covered. Quality paint moving forward, damn the cost. 😁

Oh nice! That wall is like the flats I built for my music room! Only my walls were just frames with acoustic foam in the middle. I like to record bands live and the flats go between the instruments/amps to give a little separation! I was wondering how you were gonna lift the wall to attache the legs!! Those inflatable shim thingies are the bomb I have a bunch of them. It makes installing doors super easy too!! I love your studio build out, thanks for the inspiration!

for portraits and fashion studios, we use these "Types" alot. except we also set build them out of polyfoams. 2" or 3" thick. black on 1 side and white on other. the black is usually meant to increase contrast, usually on the left and right of the model, to create a "large" studio light falloff effect" so to speak. for bigger studios like car studios, we just drape 5ft * 40ft duvet.

if you want to build a SUPER big white scrim, build a frame, then pull white sheets across it and tension it, then paint it with emulsion paint. I ever build such a scrim for my studio which measured 6m x 12m. ( car studio)

Bit late, but putting in a couple of 25mm diameter dowels in the bottom section, and being able to drop the top section onto the dowels (using handles on the side) COULD have helped with getting it through doors, and being able to take it with you to the next (basement?) studio. Fitting 3 or 4 U-shaped brackets to the bottom of the lower section, where bottom section could be held off the ground would also help with transportation. Loving the blonde.

What's up fother muckers. I've watched it until the end but I'm a bit unsure of my thoughts. I did something similar many years ago but I wasn't happy with the results. I tried several times, the results never meet my expectations. Hopefully your end result is what you had envisaged, it might take some time to get used to........ My problem was I wanted it as white as possible and it always turned out a bit blonde..... The W. O. W looks great though. 😂😂
