For the 6 rods, I used a 48" long 3/8" think aluminum round bar from Home Depot. I cut it into 6 equal lengths.

Creative use of those rods. The wife and our dogs sleep in the Suburban in a very similar manner these days. But it natively folds flat.

I found the thin sheet metal in the rear backrest to bend when I knelt on it.

You’re talking about the back of the rear seats? I don’t think mine has sheet metal. What vehicle do you have. I think you should put something down like memory foam, air mattress, or at least a moving blanket before crawling around on it.

6’-4” and you still sleep comfortably? WOW ! Can you stretch out or do you have to have your legs bent?

I can fully stretch out, straight, on my side of the bed! This simple mod has been awesome for us!

Cool idea. Just hope you'll be on an outing when the better half starts ironing. Nice Workbench BTW. Was it Ladies night out with friends, Unsupervised Adult needed a workbench, grabs the closest thing which just happened to look like better half's ironing board. Seen nuttin. Heard nuttin :)

What’s the thickness of the plywood?

Nearly 3/4” it’s some funny fraction that’s a little less that 3/4”

Love your setup! I don’t have tools or resources build similar platform myself, but I was desperately looking the same thing. Any suggestions, where I can ask pay someone to build similar thing?

Thanks! 😄 many hardware stores will cut the plywood sheets down to size for you if you know the desired dimensions. You could use a cheap handsaw to make additional cuts. Other than that, you just need a drill and a staple gun. You can get those pretty cheap and they will be very useful in the future.
