This is my 2 1/2 inch suction nozzle for my Goldhog raptor flare. I assemble this from a few parts that I sourced locally. All you need to build your own suction nozzle is a drill, drill bit and a welder And just a few other small handtools.
I get most of my hardware to build suction nozzles (45° main bodies and 180° elbow's) from this local company in Des Moines Iowa. You'll have to find a source for your reduction/jet. But this website if you're not local I don't know if they will ship it to you I'm sure that is a possibility.

That's quite the project! Nice explanation on how the suction nozzle operates. Can't wait to see this in action!

actually I think it should work really well, nozzles I've made in the past I've just thrown a lot of water at them via dredge pumps that put out a lot of water. this suction Nozzle will have a little less turbulence with the water coming down to the jet. Should work extremely well. I just don't like giving my money to somebody else for something that may or may not work as well as what I can make.

Sorry about the wait I had been reminded by a subscriber to get that video out and I'll be posting another video on testing it here in the next couple of days. after a long hard day at work in the heat sometimes when I come home I'm not thinking straight and forget verbiage

Looks good it will be fun to see it working with the tank of water test also liked your jig for keeping the water jet in the center to help you weld it on straight 😁👍 my old dredge nozzle looked pretty sad it’s missing it’s body parts lol 😂

well I'm picking up supplies tomorrow to get the tank set up on a platform. I want it around for years and years I don't want it to rust out sitting on the ground. I Gotta make the next video part three of testing the nozzle. When I'm done with that I have to make a little flair so I can run a 9 inch extension on the mini six. It's gonna be my mini six raptor flare. I have a competition coming up in two weeks. Then I'm going to finish your nozzle and get that thing back to you.

And yes that pill bottle gave its life so I could make a perfect suction nozzle. I just needed something to fit tight in the hole so I could center that Dowell Rod.

Thank you for your response, about 13 years ago I started doing research on the Internet on how to make something very simple, a suction nozzle. I had a basic idea of how it should work, but didn’t fully understand how. I tried my hand at it with a PVC constructed nozzle. It was an absolute failure. I didn’t have a reduction Jet. And after weeks of researching the Internet I came up with a few formulas that I found. Laid out my plans to make a suction nozzle out of steel tubing and it worked pretty good. And after realizing there was no real how to video or instruction anywhere on the Internet I posted a how to step-by-step instruction on a Canadian forum. This Canadian website used to have everything on there. I don’t remember the name of it. Unfortunately it no longer exists. This forum was awesome. It had metal detecting prospecting rock hunting. It had almost any kind of outdoor activity that was related to some kind of Treasure. Whether it was artifacts, gold gems, stuff like that. It was a huge forum. I had an account on there. I had a lot of posts on there anyhow I went back and I posted my how to on this forum and that’s where it was at for a lot of years. I remember the last time I looked at this post I had over 100,000 views And answered a lot of questions on there. And then one day I went to look for it to get back on there and it was just gone. Kind of shocking. That’s when I decided I would post these videos.

I have too many irons in the fire right now I do still need to make one video on operational performance I am hoping to get that out here in the next couple of weeks. Here about nine years ago I started making my own suction nozzles and the first one I made was a complete failure, I ended up doing a lot of research on the Internet in a lot of different forums. There used to be this forum it was call GPEX This place was absolutely awesome it had everything gold Prospecting gold mining metal detecting it had do it yourself sections, there were thousands upon thousands upon thousands of different threads on this forum. It was an absolute awesome website. after I completed all my research and found equations and everything that would tell you exactly what you needed for a jet size everything to build a Suction Nozzle or a jet log. I posted a very thorough how to on making your own suction Nozzle on this website back in 2012 as a way of giving back for all the knowledge I gain from that website. I was on that forum for quite a long time reading threads and different posts and here about a year ago I went back to find that website and it's gone it doesn't exist anymore I'm just absolutely flabbergasted. I'm always needing to put more content on my channel so I decided to do a video Or a series of videos on how to make your own suction nozzle.

Hey, thanks for the confidence booster. It does look like chicken scratch crap. And I do have to weld that again because I have one or two pinhole leaks. I might not be the best welder anymore because of tremors in my hands. But I am just about the only guy out there, showing you and telling you how to make a suction nozzle.

Follow up question from earlier :D So planning on doing a 4 or 5 inch, the jet should be 1/4 of the nozzle size so 1 or 1.25" for those size nozzles. But since i'm using a p180 (might go bigger) which has quite good pressure and also more water than is needed. Could i make the jet slightly bigger to get some more performance / suction?
@IowaGoldProspectors
@IowaGoldProspectors 7 ай бұрын
Yes, that’s what I do. Make sure on the end of your nozzle that you weld on a reducing ring just a just slightly I don’t have just a bare end of the tube you want something that is rounded. On my 4 inch probably 12 years ago suction was so great that, 4 inch rock came up to the nozzle, and I had my hand in the wrong place and I thought I sheered my finger off

@@IowaGoldProspectors yep gonna make a cone somehow that ends up being the proper size but slightly bigger as my pump is slightly oversized for it. But I'm getting it professionally made also I think. I don't have the tools to do it myself.. But I am considering looking into 3d printing nozzles.. If there is good enough material.
@IowaGoldProspectors
@IowaGoldProspectors 7 ай бұрын
@illernpiller that’s an awesome idea. If you get up and go making printed nozzles holler back at me I might want to buy one from you that would be nice and lightweight but is nozzle gonna be made out of something hard enough so it doesn’t work out fast
@illernpiller
@illernpiller 7 ай бұрын
@@IowaGoldProspectors that's what I need to research, it either has to be so cheap that if it wear out it won't cost much to replace, or be good enough to withstand abuse etc.

@illernpiller well I do know they make a plastic that wears less than Steel does, but I don’t know if that material is available for 3-D printing

I hope you can translate what I’m saying to you. I tried to translate your message to me and it didn’t come out right. I have a coworker that read your message and told me what you were asking. I had him send the message back to you earlier today. I have a local source that I go and pick up mandrel bent tubing from. It is important that you get mandrel bent tubing. My local source has done away with the images on their website and I can’t find it on their website, what I’ve ordered in the past. They still make it. I just don’t have any links to send you. If you would like to call them up, you’re welcome to. I will send you their website and you can call them and ask them for the size tubing that you want the 45° mandrel bent tubing and the 180° mandrel bent tubing that you need to cut down to make your own suction nozzle. Or you can get on the Internet and type in those items. Also find them on Amazon. If you type in (45° mandrel bent tubing). And (180° mandrel bent tubing). I’m sending you a link to my source their name is Auto Jet they used to have a page with descriptions of everything but I can no longer find it www.auto-jet.com

I almost forgot, whatever size Jet you need you can just use any type of metal tube. I use a three point hitch for a tractor bushing. I hope everything works out for you when I Tried to make my first suction nozzle. Nobody had any information on the Internet anywhere on how to make your own suction nozzle. I hope at least this gives you an idea of what needs to be done and how to make it.

I'm not either, now that you've said this to me I don't know how I'm gonna make it through my day. I'm not a professional welder. But I am I amateur gold Prospector/ Miner. And those welds are all That are required to hold water blasting through it at about 45 psi. If you want to see professional welds there are a plethora of KZfaq videos with professionals teaching how to weld. Go watch them. I'm showing people that want to make their own suction nozzle what they need to do.
