DIY SWEATPANTS with pockets & elastic waistband with drawstring // sewing tutorial

Hey guys, it is me again with another sewing project! In this video I will be showing you how I make my oversized straight leg sweatpants / joggers with side pockets and a drawstring elastic waistband! Just in time for Fall / Winter.. if you are like me, then you live in sweats so let's make our own perfect pair!
For the pattern, I cloned a pair of joggers I already owned, adjusted the fit to fit me better, I will be doing a video on how I clone my own clothes. I also plan on making a video of how to draft your own joggers also!! Do not forget to subscribe so you do not miss out on more videos like this!
I used a medium weight sweatshirt fleece & braided cord from a local fabric store
1.5 inch width elastic from Fabricland

Thanks for the clear explanation on the waistband, it helped me realize that a skirt I thought I messed up on, can still be corrected, because I should have done the waistband separate.

Hi.. could you please list the proportions of sweatpants waist to waistband length to elastic length? That'd be super helpful ☺️☺️ is the waistband length longer than the actual waist size and then the elastic length is close to waistsize?

Really helpful video and lots of great tips - but I wanted to ask how you managed the sewing around the pocket joint when sewing the side seam? I saw you sew the pocket bag down to fix in place so it looked neat, but how then did you sew the side seams without leaving a hole where the pocket bag was fixed? In the past I’ve seen videos where the side seam tracks around the pocket bag area as one overall stitching line, so you’ve no holes where the pocket meets the side seam. However, this doesn’t hold down the pocket bag, so I like your idea. I’m just not sure how to hide the side seam sewing when it meets the pocket top and bottom.

I usually buy my sweatpant fabrics from a local store in Toronto - affordable textiles. It’s been my fav for quality so far , I do see a lot on Etsy just haven’t purchased it from there just yet!😊. And not right now but that is definitely on my to do list for videos for sure ! 🥰
