If you really like these you'll love 3800 series 2's GM stuffed in rwd Camaros and tons of other fwd cars in the mid 90's. A little more complex but every bit as stout, damn near bulletproof, there's all sorts of go fast goodies available now that weren't before, and some nice features you can't really adapt to the older SBC-based 90°'s. Richard Holdner has by far one of the best vid's I've seen on the internet on 3800's. A good way to look at it is they're sort of to 4.3's what LS's are to SBC's; Packaging and improvements

Of all the places to throw $175, i agree with your choice of the ring set. The rings and your head gasket are the front line for going up against your flame front. And gotta love the ring filer hack! If you were going to spend money anywhere when you're boosting, the rings are a good place to start. And when compared to head studs and other upgrades, it's on the cheaper side

The biggest (hardest to find most expensive) upgrade you can get for that 4.3L is a rare billet stroker crank, performance heads, and hot cam. After that it's so similar to the traditional chevy small block that parts are easy to get. It's still mind blowing how much power a 4.3L. Actual power, not just cool numbers but a wall of torque surge that pins your lips to your ears.... *Also if I'm being honest, the sound of a turbo boosted 4.3L is just... unique and special. It's like if a VQ had it's balls drop, grew a beard and wore a flannel...
@StayTunedTA
@StayTunedTA 11 ай бұрын
Yeah, you got that right! I think this crank will be the reason we eventually move away from this motor, but it's wicked cool. I HATE the VQ sound and I don't mind this thing at all!

@@StayTunedTA I found one at a swap meet 24 years ago, haven't seen another stroker kit for a 4.3L since. I heard to get just the crank is about $3500 or so give or take. Granted again, just small block rods and pistons. The other tricky part is then rebalancing the counter shaft. I mean... once ya have that crank tho the engine is capable of 2k hp...

Tried something like this with a 1991 S10 and a 4.3l vortec from a 2005 silverado 1500. Recently got my hands on a GM LV3 from a 2017 chevy express van. While it's not leagues better in stock form, I do enjoy the very fat torque curve of the LV3, it's compact size, its shared valvetrain and head geometry with the LT1, etc. Also, the fact that it's an aluminum block is a plus. For those wondering, it's mated to a 4L80E sourced from a wrecked 2004 silverado 2500. It the first thing that I found, so that's what I've got.

I wish I had the garage and tools for fun stuff like this. I'd love to get one of Chevy's 2.7 turbo four cylinders into my Astro.

When you break that crankshaft clean in half. I would absolutely love to see you guys swap in the more modern 4.3 V-6. Great video as always.

The vortec 4.3l's were the top dogs those versions were fast on their own and you can get vortec heads and an intake to go to carbs. Dont remember of it holley or Edelbrock that makes that intake for the conversion.

People everywhere are rushing around selling their syclones to build these lol. Appreciate how everything isn’t perfect you build stuff like a average guy would in his garage. I love this truck!

"we're gonna torque those down to that's totally tight" HAHA, that was great. You guys need to rate/track each pizza place so when us jabronies drive through the philly area we'll know who makes killer pies.
