I dont have a box camera I'm looking to build a wooden tripod for an UHF/VHF Antenna to use on my ft-817 radio.

I love the tension loop solution, so simple yet effective! But I worry a bit about the triangle plate "wobbling", i.e. tilting left/right and front/back. How do you prevent this, simply by friction leg mountings?

The L-brackets hold the legs snuggly while permitting them to pivot on the bolts, very little play. The triangular plate is "triangulated" to the three legs, so no wobble.

Brilliant! I've been looking for a good DIY tripod solution, and this is the best one I've seen. Do you think the first one could be made with hardwood broomsticks, rather than dowels?
