Nice Job and thanks for posting. I'm looking at building a drawer system for my Gladiator and I appreciate seeing one execution that represents a minimalist approach, i.e no drawer slides, simple rectangle that slides in between the wheel wells, etc. This helps confirm some of my ideas that I have been contemplating. Thanks again.

very nice project and it looks like you have the woodworking skills, equipment and experience to have pulled it off perfectly. I have none of those, lol I did build a single drawer system for my Jeep Scrambler but I think I want to do your way on my Gladiator. Thanks for showing me how

looks good and functional. I like having no rollers or slides or moving parts to accommodate drawer function. Orange and black is a pretty sweet color combo.

Thanks I took it out recently for a family vacation so I could fit all the suitcases under the cover. This gave me a chance to paint the entire thing inside and out. I get a lot of people that come up and ask me about the bed system as well as the truck. Only thing I would do differently is make it out of 1/2 inch plywood except for the top because it’s would still be plenty strong and cutback on some weight

Appreciate you putting this video together. I was originally going to go full hardware for my drawers and after watching this I've pivoted to your method. I've had trouble figuring out what wax to use, can you link to the stuff you used? Thanks

Really awesome work! BTW, what cover do you used for your truck bed? Does it leak? I need to get one for my Gladiator Mojave.
@MojaveTrails
@MojaveTrails 8 ай бұрын
Thanks! It’s the Mopar cover that came with my Jeep. It has held up extremely well. It doesn’t leak and I have not done anything to it other than take it through a car wash to clean it. I like the way it functions. I should clarify if you’re in the desert it won’t keep dust out but it does keep water out if that’s what you mean by leak. Take care!

Pretty awesome project. I don't have a workshop like you nor the ingenuity. Basically I'm lazy and I'll be the first to admit it. What do you plan on carrying in there and what kind of tonneau are you using to secure the load? Is it lockable? BTW, you earned a sub!
@MojaveTrails
@MojaveTrails 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It's a pretty easy project if you get bored and one you can take your time on you really don't need a lot of tools to build it. Circular saw, good straight edge glue and screws and you can make all the required cuts. I didn't feel the need to put locks on it since the tailgate locks and there is no way to open the drawers with the the tailgate locked. They can cut into the top I guess but they could do that either way. So far nobody has messed with it. I think people just look for an easy grab which is why I don't like Racks it's just too easy to walk buy and take something. If they want to get at the stuff I have in the drawers they are going to have to work for it and thief's are basically lazy anyway so it's probably too much trouble. Thanks for the sub!

I tried glue screws and nothing holds like bolts and nuts. Has this come apart yet?
@MojaveTrails

Hi and thanks for the post. No I have not had it come apart. Alternate the bolts instead of all being in a straight line is a change I’m going to make on the next set but these suffice for now

Like the idea but only concern is weight. Any idea on that?
@MojaveTrails
@MojaveTrails 2 жыл бұрын
If your worried about weight you could make the frame and drawers out of 1/2 inch plywood or use lighter weight woods like cedar or redwood. The weight of my drawer system is less than 150 lbs. it really depends on your specific setup and how much gear you need to bring. I tend to only bring what I need and leave the other stuff home. I like to travel light and move fast. I’d love to hear more about how you travel and what your setup needs are. I have been thinking about another setup which would consist of a full pullout base and pack outs mounted to it so I could mix and match what I bring based on where I’m heading. It would also be lighter and allow for everything to be under the tonnue cover.

how big were your rails and did you use 1/2 inch plywood
@MojaveTrails
@MojaveTrails 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Bret, I made mine out of 3/4 cabinet paint grade plywood. I used that because it doesn’t have voids and is cheaper than Baltic Burch. If I was to build a second one I would only use 3/4 for the top. The bottom frame could be in 1/2. Depending on how much weight you plan on putting on top of your system you can go 1/2 or 3/4. Also make sure you double check the overall height including the frame. I cut my sides to 71/4 inches but I first designed it for a 1/2 inch top, then during construction because I had extra 3/4 plywood around I used that. Long story is that now when I want to use my truck to get plywood or other long material, it sits 1/4 above the back of the tailgate when the tailgate is in the hauling position. I have a workaround for it which involves a pool noodle and some redneck ingenuity, but it shouldn’t have been necessary! Good luck with your build!

How did you secure it to the bed?
@MojaveTrails
@MojaveTrails 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ryan The front of the Gladiator bed has an indent towards the bottom and the front rail fits within that. I cut notches around the back of the bed so that the frame cannot slide forward or backward and the notch in the front prevents it from tipping out. You can also drill a hole in the side if you wish and secure it to the factory tiedowns which I was originally planning on doing. But once I built it and installed it I realized it's not going anywhere so I have not felt the need to do anymore than what I've done. Hope that helps if you need any better pictures let me know and I can take some of whatever you are specifically wanting to see.

@MojaveTrails
@MojaveTrails 10 ай бұрын
Hi 7 inches I also recommend making the drawers out of 1/2 material instead of 3/4. Keep it lighter and give you a little more capacity. I have also gone to having only the left half and leaving the right half as a pull out platform which allows me to accommodate taller items and still keep them under the cover. This arrangement worked awesome on our recent 10 Wyoming trip. Thanks for watching and for posting your question. Best Wishes!
