Hi jerry Thanks! that is a good idea let me know how it works for you. For now i'm ok with how the extra weight is handling but I do think I want to address it within the next 10K miles. Heavier springs, longer shocks with small lift and maybe a stiffer sway bar in the rear is the direction i'm currently leaning but if there is a better/cheaper alternative Id be open to it.

I had an idea for a video that no one here seems to have. This would be an explanation of your JEEP as it pertains to ''HOW EVERYTHING IN THE DRIVE TRAIN WORKS''. For us new comers when we watch all these reviews everyone points out the seats stitching, the fancy steering wheel and orange highlights but how do you use this truck off road? Such as, when do you lock the rear, is it a 3X4 and not a 4X4 unless you have a front locker, what is the transfer case and what does it do, what does locking the rear do and the other button that puts it in a special OFF ROAD MODE do?
@MojaveTrails
@MojaveTrails 20 күн бұрын
Hi Eric Ok so this would be a good video and would be rather long. The next time I’m out on a trail I will keep it in mind. Now to answer what I think you are looking for. What to buy as far as 4x4 goes. I’ll stay high level for now. You want a part time 4x4 system with 2h 4h 4l. The reason most off roaders prefer part time to full time basically because your in 2h or 4h most of the time even off road. I only use 4 lo when I actually need it. And I only engage the rear locker only when I am on really slippery terrain or climbing rocks. Even on the rigs that had a front locker I maybe used it 5-6 times. When you engage the front locker steering gets very difficult because both wheels are turning at the same speed. This not only causes extra binding in the drivetrain it also makes it hard to direct the vehicle where you want it to go. Say your on a steep hill climb in wet or muddy conditions something I find myself a lot during hunting season. Now I’m also climbing bluff roads with steep drop off to one side the last thing I want is for any issues with steering. If it’s wet I will engage the rear locker in 4lo and get a good run at it keeping it in second or third gear. Keep the rpm’s at around 4500 for my Jeep and hang on :). The gladiator is great at this and the Mojave with the 2:72 transfer case means that I can go faster which maintains more momentum in lo range over the rubicon which has a 4:1 transfer case. If you’re climbing over a lot of hard rock obstacles the slower the better which is where the 4:1 is better. Now a full time 4x4 system means your always in 4wheel drive and the computer is sending power where it thinks it needs it. 2 bad things happen with these systems. 1 you get worse gas mileage because your always in 4 hi. 2 there is always going to be some binding in the drivetrain on dry roads so typically these drivetrains don’t last as long and need maintenance. Biggest issue I have with the 392 is that it uses this system and a number of people report drivetrain issues. If you were my son and looking to buy your first gladiator I would suggest getting the Willy’s version. Since they upgraded it 2 years ago it now comes with a Dana axels and a rear locker. Same one that’s in the Mojave I believe. upgraded wheels and tires usually with mud terrain tires. Skid plates and It has upgraded suspension over the base models with the same 4x4 system. It’s not as good as the Mojave suspension or even the Rubicon but it’s 17k less on average. With the xtra 17k you can upgrade any of the parts you want. If you really get into off roading your probably going to want to get new shocks, bumper winch possibly a lift. But don’t waste your time and money with any of that stuff until you use it stock and get some experience offroad. The stock Willys will take you to 90% of the places you’ll want to go. There is a lot more I could say on this topic we’re just scratching the surface and I have no idea what your money situation is. If you spend 60k+ on a vehicle and find out you don’t like off-roading then you haven’t done yourself any favors and I’d feel bad that I encouraged or glamorized something that is not for everyone. Breaking down off road on a trail alone and far from help is a real thing no matter what you drive. It’s your experience, comfort level and your skill that is going to get you home not the vehicle. I really hope this post helps and best of luck with your journey! Thanks again for watching and don’t hesitate to ask it’s how we all learn! Most importantly stay safe!

Have another question. If you do not have the front locker, does this mean you have a 3 wheel drive and NOT A TRUE 4X4? If you do not lock the rear then what? New to this. Thank You! Oh what's with the 2H and 4H / 4L used for?
@MojaveTrails
@MojaveTrails 18 күн бұрын
Hi Eric Jeeps and other 4wd systems have what's known as Part Time 4 wheel drive with an Open Differential. That means that when your in 4 wheel drive the power is split between the front and back axle and then the differentials (1 front 1 back) again split the power to each wheel. Open means they spin independently. You need this because when you turn a corner the outside and inside wheels are turning at a different speed. If they were turning at the same speed it would be very difficult to turn, would travel on a larger arc and would put an enormous amount of stress on the drivetrain. It's worse in the front than it is in the back. When your driving offroad in good traction conditions pretty much all 4 tires are getting about the same amount of power. Which is why that is usually all you need for most conditions. If you run into slippery conditions or a tire comes off the ground when going over an obstacle then in an open diff system the tire with the least resistance just spins and the other side doesn't get any of the power. In those situations engaging a locker (locking the diff) will send 50% of the power to each wheel. So that is how you will be able to get traction on ice when starting from a dead stop or climb over an obstacle when one wheel is in the air. The Jeep and pretty much all true offroad vehicles today will have some sort of a computer break system that helps in the conditions where all of the power is going to one wheel. Jeep refers to theirs as BLD (Break Locked Differential). It's not a physical device but rather a computer system that does the following. When the BLD system detects that one or more wheels are losing traction, it automatically applies brake pressure to the slipping wheel(s). This braking action redirects torque to the wheel(s) with better traction, helping the vehicle maintain forward momentum. When driving offroad in most conditions this happens and you don't notice it. If your trying to climb over a rock for example and one side is in the air you actually have to slowly give it more gas to overcome the breaking that is being applied to the wheel that is spinning until you get to the point where you have forward momentum again. It's actually a pretty good system once you get used to it and its why I don't think you really need a front locker any longer. I'm not saying its better than a front locker when you get into that situation but it's good enough for the rare times it actually happens. It take some practice to get the nuance of applying the right amount of gas to overcome the breaking but not too much gas that you launch over the obstacle and ludicrous speed! If you are a rock crawler and you do that a lot then you probably will want locking diffs on both front and back. You also probably don't want a Jeep Gladiator or any pickup because of the break over angle issue in those situation. You can add an aftermarket front locker to the Mojave if you so choose. ox locker makes a Dana 44 front locker that will work with the Mojave. I've thought about adding one but for 600 plus the installation cost it would not be worth it. There has only been 1 time where I would have liked to have had it in the last 4 years i've owned the Mojave and in the situation the BLD did get me over the obstacle. In the end it all comes down to the driver and the more experience you gain the better off you are. Hope this helps and enjoy the journey my friend!

Hi Eric Let's break down how 4WD works on the Jeep Gladiator and what the different settings mean. Front and Rear Lockers: -Front Locker: When engaged, this locks the front differential, causing both front wheels to turn at the same speed. Without a front locker, the front differential allows the wheels to spin at different speeds, which can be useful for turning but can lead to one wheel spinning if it loses traction. Rear Locker: Similar to the front locker, locking the rear differential ensures both rear wheels turn at the same speed. This is crucial for maintaining traction in off-road situations. True 4x4 vs. 3-Wheel Drive: True 4x4: For the vehicle to have true 4-wheel drive, ideally, both front and rear lockers would be engaged, ensuring all four wheels are turning at the same speed. 3-Wheel Drive: Without a front locker, you rely on the Brake Lock Differential (BLD) system or the Traction Control System (TCS) to manage power distribution. This can effectively give you 3-wheel drive under certain conditions where the system uses braking to direct power to the wheel with traction. If You Do Not Lock the Rear: Open Differential: If you don't lock the rear, the differential allows each wheel to spin at different speeds, which can result in one wheel spinning without gaining traction. BLD System The Brake Lock Differential system will help by applying brakes to the spinning wheel, redistributing power to the wheel with traction, but it's not as effective as a locked differential. 2H, 4H, and 4L: 2H (2-High): This is for normal driving on paved roads. Power is sent only to the rear wheels, providing better fuel efficiency and handling. 4H (4-High): This setting is for driving on slippery surfaces like gravel, sand, or light snow. It engages both the front and rear axles for better traction at higher speeds. 4L (4-Low): Use this setting for off-road driving in tough conditions like deep sand, mud, or steep hills. It provides maximum torque and power at low speeds for climbing and navigating difficult terrain. - Without the front locker, you might experience something akin to 3-wheel drive under certain conditions, but the BLD system helps mitigate this. - Not locking the rear differential can affect traction, but the BLD system will assist in maintaining control. - 2H, 4H, and 4L are different drive settings that adjust how power is distributed to your wheels for various driving conditions. Hope this answers some of your questions!

@@MojaveTrails Yes, I think I am understanding things now. Do have one question. So being unlocked, do we still have what may be referred to as LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIAL both front and rear so at times each tire on front and rear left and right at times has power to it and the BLD helps in this? It sounds like the computer system is helping out the driver and they are not even aware of it. Same situation with my 2023 BMW 1250 GSA motorcycle. With all the computer aids they make me look like a pro rider at times! Thank You kind Sir for all of your help.

Yes that computer system is always on when you’re in 4h or lo. There are different computer tunes (programming). For it when you’re in 4h vs 4l and when you have the offroad + feature enabled. As soon as I go into 4 lo or high I normally enable offroad + and turn of the traction control. BLD will still work it’s a separate system that is always on when in 4 lo or high. Offroad + changes how the computer behaves for these systems Throttle response Traction control Stability control Transmission shift points ABS break calibration And again some of these are different in 4l vs 4h

Need your help please. Just found your videos as I was researching a JEEP for a future purchase. When I research them I am finding so many people having issues with a few things. For example, what about the dry start up issue because of the oil filter being empty when you first start the engine? Is the $400.00 accessory needed to be purchased and installed that has the special valve ? Also since you are in there, what about the plastic oil cooler that people are havening cracked due to heat? Then some talk of electrical issues and some say they have a generator and others say no they have an alternator? Too, the Corning Gorilla glass people are cracking them too. The rear final driver sensor people say they need to replace it? So I really thought I would like a new Jeep and do not want to buy one every year as some people do because they are afraid to put too many mikes on them and worry if the engine can even last 100,000 miles or so? Or am I being swayed by some people that have just had bad luck? Hope you understand my concern and offer some good advice. I am into motorcycles too and so far this JEEP is reminding me of some of the KTM models that there are so many issues you need to know and correct before you go any where with one. Thank You Sir!!

Yes the Mojave is 4-wheel drive and features a rear locker. They share the same 4:10 gears, but the Mojave comes with a 2.72 transfer case, unlike the Rubicon’s 4:1. This difference means the Mojave has a faster crawl rate and can maintain higher speeds in 4-Lo, making it ideal for mud, snow, and sand. However, it's less suitable for slow rock crawling. With experience, a skilled driver can overcome this limitation to a degree. Having owned both, I personally prefer the 2.72 transfer case for its versatility across various terrains.

Nice overview video Thanks! Great job pointing out what the extra width does and does not mean overall between the wheels as I've seen many comments around concerns for use in tight spaces. What I have not seen yet with others M1 owners is much discussion around if they've had challenges or issues not utilizing the sides for extra equipment (like rotopax, mounting jacks, stuff you would normally see). It does come down to efficient and lean packing of course or perhaps future need for a robust rear bumper setup. What are your thoughts thus far around mounting equipment one might normally do with bed racks or more tapered camper/canopy topper arrangement? I also look forward to any updates you share around your interior build out, cabinets, etc. Thanks again for the overview!!

Thanks! And great questions. I recently mounted an awning and I will be mounting other items as well. We have been working on a couple of prototype storage cabinets for the inside. Several videos about them will be coming out over the next few weeks. Yes I agree a lot of it comes down to packing and gear efficiency only bringing what you really need especially on a midsize like the he gladiator. Full size rigs you can be a bit more sloppy with how you pack them. We also have talked about and my son is working on designs for exterior storage on the back and under the wings. We do have a lot of tight trails where we go with overgrown trails so it’s something to keep in mind. But even with the extra width of a he sides on the Gladiator your still narrower than bronco raptors and other full sized setups. Being able to easily mount stuff and easily remove it is key to me. So if I find myself in a situation where I’m to wide with something that is mounted I can easily put it in a be back until I’m past the obstacle. I’m have much more to say on this topic and I can see you are thinking about the right things! Keep watching please and follow us on Instagram we have some great things coming out! Take care!

it was a hematite mine .taconite was not mined here, the iron was at least 60 % pure as it was shipped out and only pure ore was profitable. the trash heaps near the old mines has a higher iron content than most taconite mines

I think i met you at Moore. It was just you and Sean/Shawn at the Tune display. Is that right? I ended up buying one for my 08 Tacoma DCLB. I'm interested in how you end up setting yours up.

Yes that was me congratulations! Do you know when you will get it installed? I’ll be sure to post my solutions here as well as my business site. I have multiple designs in mind I’m starting with a side lower cabinet on the passenger side. I want to make them modular and removable so I can change up my setup based on where I’m going for how long and how many people. Plus I need to be able to remove all of it so I can do truck stuff. It was great meeting you and enjoy your Tune!

Nice….how difficult is it to take on and off? I couldn’t keep it on all the time to big and bulky and looks ugly on the gladiator.

First of all I think it looks fantastic on the Gladiator! You can take it off but you need to buy the hardware that supports the jack stands and they use different hardware to mount it if you’re going to remove it. I don’t know the costs on that but we do have some customers that remove them.

I just used a composite laminate over a sheet of 1/2 inch plywood. I should have sealed the end of the plywood because of the water that comes in from the tailgate when driving in the rain. Otherwise I really like the results. It’s flat strong and easy to clean. I bought what was in the discontinued section of Home Depot so I paid 1.75 a sqr ft. You need 2 boxes even though you only use 1.5 for a gladiator sized bed. Thanks for watching!

I used select grade kiln dried red cedar that I plained down to a strong inch. It’s been great! I leave the under side unfinished so I still get the cedar smell which I like 👍

no truma or insulation pack?
@MojaveTrails
@MojaveTrails 2 ай бұрын
I have the insulation pack but I have not installed it yet. I will for the fall since my son and I will be using it for hunting. Right now I use the buddy heater. I’ve camped two nights in the 30s with the heater running on low and the max air fan on 30% out and a small section of the screen open. It’s been very comfortable. That is without the insulation pack. I imagine if it gets below 30 I would want the insulation pack on and might need the truma heater. Thanks for watching!

Thanks ! Still trying to work out schedule with our work. My son and I went in September and we saw a lot of Moose which was cool. Ideally I think August would be a great time. Have you been there and if so do you have a favorite time?

@@MojaveTrails yes been A few times, in fact we just pulled our backcountry campsites today for our September backpacking trip. I’ve been in august, it’s warmer, more mosquitoes and more people. After Labor Day is the best time of year out there, weather is most stable then as well. We pick up our tune M1 early July so yellowstone will be our first big trip using her as our home base.

what is the weight? stock suspension? looks bigger than I thought it would.

@MojaveTrails 2 ай бұрын
The 5 foot model starts at 340 lbs. I have added glass on 2 sides plus the front slider window and the Max fan. I am probably around 440. My suspension is still stock but I did add inner spring air bags in the rear. I am fine with how it rides for now, when I need to replace the shocks at around 80K miles I will consider other options.

@MojaveTrails thanks for the reply! Looks up my alley. I have 3 kids and our rtt setup just isn't enough room and I don't care to fool with an annex with our run and gun style. Only other concern is gvwr. We are all short so sleeping sideways would be a great way to fit us all in!

Nice Job and thanks for posting. I'm looking at building a drawer system for my Gladiator and I appreciate seeing one execution that represents a minimalist approach, i.e no drawer slides, simple rectangle that slides in between the wheel wells, etc. This helps confirm some of my ideas that I have been contemplating. Thanks again.

Thank you for sharing you experience. Is it true that it's not quiet an exact fit for gladiator sport? (a little bit of drilling and other adjustments according to another utuber). I love the Rampage, but I am being drawn more toward the Tactik bumper (similar to the Rampage) for my next project on my 2021 Gladiator sport.
@MojaveTrails
@MojaveTrails 2 ай бұрын
Hello, I honestly don’t know how it fits on a sport. I know the Mojave has an extra inch of front clearance but I don’t see how that makes a difference. The bumper has held up well but I still need to touch up the paint once a year. Thanks for watching and good luck with which ever one you choose to go with

Any one searching for more power, the recent ecu tunes are very good! They completely transform the top end power of the engine. Factory has the power drop off after 5000 rpm and tune makes 40+ hp on the top end using 93 octane. Simply derestricting the throttle body position sensor. I'm extremely happy and its cheap compared to a supercharger.

Your welcome you can try this out for a lot less and if you still want to add an amp you can. These speakers should be able to handle the amp if you add one the factory ones won’t

Smart - unless you are going to be rock crawling. Willy's is another good trim.
@MojaveTrails
@MojaveTrails 5 ай бұрын
Yes the new Willys is basically the Mojave without the suspension. Rear locker, 33 tires etc. it’s a great option if you’re looking for great offroad performance at a lower price. With the break over angle on a gladiator you really need 40s before you can seriously call it a rock crawler and putting it on 40s. Gets very expensive to do it right. Too rich for my blood no doubt.
