video shows how to build 5 types of Tuna-Can Alcohol Stoves (2 dual-can ones, 2 single-can ones and a 4 can stove are all shown). the creative process of designing the stoves and the associated experimenting is included too and shows how i arrived at the designs. all heated up very fast and boiled 3/4 to 1 cup of water quickly (in a minute or two). price of the fuels and the benefits (and drawbacks) of each are discussed in the video. note: always wear safety glasses when testing your stove design. lastly, for my thoughts & conclusions on the stoves and fuels make sure to watch the last 30 seconds of the video.

I know that you have many videos of different types of diy stoves but I really like the first one. I have plenty of the more expensive types but I want to have many cheap extras to give away if necessary or to just add to my diy 24 hour food bags to keep everything together and again, to give away when needed. Thank you for doing the experiments for us and then show us what works!

I find that isopropyl burns a bit dirty and will cover the bottom of the pot with soot. I usually put a piece of sturdy aluminum foil to cover the pot bottom. I find that HEET burns pretty clean and hot. I now have a larger container and I mix one 7 oz. bottle of HEET with one 16 oz. bottle of isopropyl and no soot problem. I buy both products at my local dollar type store. I use something like your four can setup. I use a computer fan cover as a stove grill and it lets me put smaller pots directly on top of the stove.

You should think about putting a book together with pictured instructions on all your amazing ideas so just in case shtf we have a compendium of ideas and plans. Alot of folks have bogus books on something similar but they are nothing compared to what I have seen here on your channel. You are an innovator

One model which can be done without tools is put steelwoll into can and wick in middle. Low power and no soot. Aluminum foil and toilet paper stove works. Use bottle bottom to form cup and fill it of alcohol soaked paper.

First I've enjoyed this video , and it's woke up questions for me, so this yellow fuel (heet ) would i need to worry about a self life , say a couple of years ? and do you think this would be a better cooking way than a soup can wood stove ? Thanks for a great video Johnny b.

I have a question. I built an an alcohol stove and it worked fine to heat the bricks above it. The problem I ran into is this. A new, opened bottle of isopropyl alcohol burned fine. Alcohol from the same bottle, (capped overnight), wouldn't light at all. What gives?

Are you using 70% or 91% alcohol assuming you are using rubbing alcohol? I had trouble with 70 and solved with 91. Not everyone carries 91.
@domainjester
@domainjester 6 жыл бұрын
The text at the end said he used 70%
@desertsun02
@desertsun02 6 жыл бұрын
hi there. 70% isopropyl alcohol should work fine every time (even if it's a bottle that's been in the cabinet for 10 years). my thoughts/suggestions are... don't use 50% isopropyl because there is too much water in that. if you're using 70% - did you remember to dump the "leftover water" out of the container before you added more alcohol. if you don't do that every time, the alcohol could be too watered down.

Why not the red bottle of HEET?
@lindam.9282
@lindam.9282 2 жыл бұрын
Red Heet is isopropyl alcohol sooty. Yellow Heet is nearly 100% methanol. Poisonous (very), but very nice in the alky stove. No soot, burns clean.

Assuming you have not yet blown yourself up, ... Absolutely, positively, *_NO!!!_* Using gasoline (petrol) is very dangerous, even when using a specially designed burner. You saw the times the alcohol made a small explosion? Well, petrol would have made a *_BIG_* one.

Question, would oils work? Like olive oil?
@TechnomancerTheWise
@TechnomancerTheWise 6 жыл бұрын
Mishi Hernandez no sir, the fuel should be one that evaporates quickly, and burns at high temperatures. Olive oil may burn but the fuel should also be able to create pressure at high temperatures for the jet models
@Vares65
@Vares65 5 жыл бұрын
Olive oil and such only work if you have some kind of wick in the oil. I ate a can of anchovies that was pack in olive oil and there was about an ounce of oil left in the can. As an experiment I rolled up bit of cotton cloth I had cut up to make char cloth and laid it in the can with the tip over the edge. I let it soak up the oil for a few minutes and then lit it. It burned perfectly, as bright as a good candle. The oil in the tin probably would have burned for at least 45 mins, maybe even an hour.
