Not to mention they last 10+ years' much longer, lighter, and you can use the full capacity, unlike lead which only gives you 50% useable. They cost more.. but it will likely last you a lifetime!

Well that simply is not true. The chemistry of this type of lithium battery is extremely volatile and combine with a decent amount of energy at 100AH there is more than enough danger to burn the house down in a matter of minutes (it will create a massive fire). This risk is far higher and more dangerous than any lead acid or sealed gel battery and realistically should not be used in this situation (unsealed, should be under constant charge due to being a backup, can catch fire if BMS does not stop current draw before battery gets too low and will explode and catch fire if BMS does not cut off charge and voltage gets too high). There is no way you want to stick this type of battery behind something without being in a fireproof box designed for charging this type of battery.

Nice , lot better than a UPS . Great way to go , Simple & efficient. . Thank you for sharing ! 😊 Just love it 😊. May keep you from needing a generator . In a pinch , you could probably use your car to recharge it . A battery charger from harbor freight would do for periodical charging . Good Job Dude ! Maybe if your feeling ambitious you can show us how to use that battery with other wave makers like gyro's. Probably need a relay , I'm sure you being the Dude could come up with the ultimate method. You just need to pick up a couple of 10a Schottky diodes and if that is hard to understand you can also just grab a cheap 10A bridge rectifier and connect power to device on one leg, and connect up to 3 power sources/backups to any of the other 3 legs. Whatever leg supplies the highest voltage will run the device and no mechanical relays or headaches needed...

Fantastic channel and content, thank you for all your work. I have been slowly researching and collecting equipment over the last couple of years in preparation to pull the trigger and get into the hobby but being on the west coast of Canada I am finding it hard to source anywhere local that has a decent stock and variety of livestock in my area and searching online I keep getting American sites with so much more variety in livestock but of course they don’t ship here. This is putting pause on my wanting to go full in and pull the trigger in fear I won’t be able to get the things I really want. It would be great if you could do a “Canadian Reefer” video where you point out any online stores you trust with decent variety in Canada and/or ship to Canada. Also, if you have boarded a plane from the USA to Canada with coral or fish and whether that’s allowed and your personal experience with it would be useful knowledge also. If you ever need a video idea please consider this topic as I know I would be taking notes and watching. It appears the more eastern you go across the country the better the local saltwater fish stores are. It’s irritating that I can put scuba gear on and walk into the ocean 30 feet from shore and see an octopus the size of a small car in my city but I can’t go to the fish store down the street and find more than one type of tang! 😂 😂

If it’s just for backup you can just top it off with a charger after an outage or every 3-4 months. It will hold a charge for a long time. So no need to keep A charger on it unless you have very frequent outrages

You have to wire them in parallel. You would connect all of the wires together and connect that one wire to the corresponding positive and negative terminals. For the Gyre, it will be tricky because it may not have a battery backup option like the Ecotechs have. In that case you may have to look at other solutions that have an inverter.

I figured you have the expensive part & some experience in the field . It would be cool to run your return pump also with such a big battery 😀Thank you for the reply ! Keep up the good work !

@@madshepsreef282 the ecotech pumps have an extra power input with a diode between it and the driver supply to act as the "switch", it is why you have to supply under 24.5v (nominal voltage of the power supply) to the battery backup to ensure it works.
@DoYouEvenFishTank
@DoYouEvenFishTank 9 ай бұрын
Ahh that is a pretty dangerous thing to be suggesting people do, you should not have this type of lithium battery in your house and especially not for battery backup where it "should" be under constant charge..... The risk way outways and benefit unless you can store the battery where it can't cause a fire (which will be outside the house in a battery bunker). If you have seen what happens with a hoverboard battery fire, which happen all the time, wait till you see what 10 times as much energy can do in the exact same chemistry........

Do some googling on LiFePO4, they are one of the safer of the lithium chemistys “. One of the most important advantages LiFePO4 has over other battery types is safety. LiFePO4 is the safest lithium battery type. It’s the safest of any type, actually. Overall, LifePO4 batteries have the safest lithium chemistry. Why? Because lithium iron phosphate has better thermal and structural stability. This is something lead acid and most other battery types don’t have at the level LiFePO4 does. LiFePO4 is incombustible. It can withstand high temperatures without decomposing. It’s not prone to thermal runaway, and will keep cool at room temperature. If you subject a LiFePO4 battery to harsh temperatures or hazardous events (like short circuiting or a crash) it won’t start a fire or explode. For those who use deep cycle LiFePO4 batteries every day in an RV, bass boat, scooter, or liftgate, this fact is comforting.”
@DoYouEvenFishTank
@DoYouEvenFishTank 9 ай бұрын
@@ReefDudes Learn the chemistry champ, there is no such thing in the LiFePO4 world and the line "LiFePO4 has over other battery types is safety" should of been a massive RED FLAG had you done some "googling", why do you think the BMS is in the battery??? Don't play silly games as this could burn some persons house down while they are asleep. It is the trade off you have to make in order to get the energy density to provide both the current rating and capacity of the battery is the chemistry is very volatile which is why it is so dangerous to use in the way you are suggesting it...... This battery will most certainly catch fire and or explode if the cell fails and leaks to atmosphere or the BMS fails and causes over charging or discharging (highly likely to happen in your use case).
