Thanks, this is the best description for a simple design. And throw in the jig tip ++. We’re surplus about 50 bottles with no home. The rack will go into a basement (cave) side room in our ~100 year old home.

Story Stick is a great name, I build lots of bee keeping equipment, I have a "story stick" for each component of the hives that I use. Never heard it called "story stick" but it is a perfect name.

That's a very old term. I heard it first 30 years ago reading a book by Jim Tolpin called Building Traditional Kitchen Cabinets. Using them has saved me sooooooo much time.

Excellent look. Great job. I Will definitely be buying something off one of the links. Nice explanation on what the project is about and why you do what your doing. Sweet. r

I'm going to suggest you go with 3 7/8" or maybe even 4. Followed the 3 3/4" measurement, measured 20 times (not exaggerating, made a mock up. Everything was great, so I thought. Built a rack for 70 bottles and now the bottles slightly rest on top of each others. A very standard sized bottle.

I just did a similar project with white oak. Mind the grain otherwise nailer will split the horizontals .

hahahahahahaha. You're not wrong. I don't really think the overall price of construction would be that much higher now that lumber has come back down from its lofty highs though.

Great video. What is the width of your unit that is 6 bottles wide ?

Great video, can you do one on your angled display shelves?
@chrisarneson8644
@chrisarneson8644 3 жыл бұрын
I probably won't make another video. The angled shelves are basically the same premise as the flat shelves but with an additional cross piece added to keep the wine from sliding off. It's really that easy. Give it a try.

Thanks for running us through this explanation video. Really helpful for my build that I'm getting started. How did you end up fastening each side/Column of the racks together against the wall?
@chrisarneson8644
@chrisarneson8644 Жыл бұрын
There are lots of different ways to do that, but I always add a crossmember across the back to serve as a nailer. When I go to install wherever the studs are, I can put a screw into them. I’m not sure that’s well explained but every commercial cabinet typically has a crossmember across the top and sometimes across the bottom for that purpose.

@@chrisarneson8644 Yes that makes complete sense. Thank you so much for the explanation. Assuming you attached each column to the crossmembe before screwing crossmember into the wall?

Hey Chris great video! Quick question what did you rip those 3/4 x 3/4 horizontals from or did you get them already precut?
@chrisarneson8644

@@chrisarneson8644 sweet thanks great video by the way! I'm excited to make the jig as well as the actual rack. The story stick is genius. Thanks again!

@@chrisarneson8644 one more question. The way you are using the story stick that is for the height of the rack correct?
@chrisarneson8644
@chrisarneson8644 2 жыл бұрын
@@Stvr1000 I make one for each dimension. I have one for height one for width and one for depths of the depth one can sometimes be skipped if it’s obvious
