I love how you explain everything. You explain about getting quotes and factoring that into a budget. A lot of times getting something done is out of price range, but you seem to take that in stride and do it yourselves. I am not restoring a chateau, but watching you gives me inspiration to try big tasks at home! I love your videos. All the best from a fan in Connecticut, USA!

You clearly have the determination and perseverance to conquer any challenge that comes your way, as well as the foresight to plan well ahead. I did not realise just how perfectly well this stove was going to blend in the corner of your dining room! Actually, the sight of the gorgeous red flames behind the glass even made me feel warm, all the way to here in chilly England !

Hi Tony, well you know that unsightly silver tube going up to the ceiling - that’s the ducting providing heat in to Poppy and Lilly’s room. The thing is after March we shouldn’t need it anymore until next October again. Therefore we can take away the tubing until we do need it again 👍

Hello Lorraine, thanks. We do prefer the aesthetics of a wood burner but this stove is very practical that’s for sure - ok, off to stoke the wood burner 😂

So lovely to see your progress, thrilled for you all. Followed you all the way, cold here too, New Forest England, had a log fire installed, so I am enjoying extra warmth too. Once owned an old thatched cottage on the Broads, log burners kept us cosy. Interested to see wood pellets in Chateaus as a way forward. Take care of yourselves my virtual friends.

Hi Kris, oh a thatched cottage, gosh that was on the wish list for a while for me. Yes pellets, we are happy initially, so we will see how it all pans out. We wanted to be independent with wood completely but it isn’t to be yet. We are considering a pellet maker though 😂🤦‍♀️😉

Summer has decided to arrive down here at my end of the world! And it looks as if it's going to be a hot humid one, with a bit of rain thrown in. I don't mind the rain, it keeps my tanks full and waters the gardens. But the humidity is a killer. I'm happy for you that you've got good heating for the colder months ahead. It'll certainly make your lives a lot more comfortable won't it? But the snow looks so pretty doesn't it? Really Christmasy. big hugs to all xxx

Hello Karen, wow summer - it seems so long ago. I’m currently sat doing the next stage of the planning for the homestead. It’s going to be an interesting year ahead again! Im with you on the humidity, it’s not really an issue in the UK, but here in the south of France, wowzers it gets to you that’s for sure - not like in the Southern Hemisphere of course - but a little different for us used to dry heat! Keep me posted x❤️

I'm with you regarding aesthetics. It's the little details that make the difference. I hope you find an easy, suitable solution to the pipe issue. I like your choice of heater.

Thanks Louise, yes we were not sure whether the ducting would be effective in heating the room upstairs so we just purchased cheap flexible liner for the air duct to start. We were going to purchase a white rigid pipe once we were sure, but I feel it’s likely we will just remove it in spring until autumn again 😊

Nice sleek stove ,sits in that corner nicely . Fires are on here too, we get down to -2 at night and snow on the ground .

Hi Jean, it’s ok, aesthetically I prefer The woodburning stoves, but it sure is efficient - and also you can turn it on and off, you can’t do that with a log burner 😊

Nice that you have more heat especially if it's colder .we have just had the storm all around us trees blown down , fencing also.We have been fine but lots of people have had no electricity ,and some still waiting for reconnection.⛄🌬️

Hey, how did you get on with the ducting? Did you find a more aesthetically pleasing duct? I'm ducting from my sitting room (bungalow), across my attic and into two other rooms so I think I'll need to use a stupidly expensive twin wall flue through the attic to make sure I don't lose all the heat.

I've heard that everyone everywhere are going to have a below average cold cold winter. Lots of cold air coming from north pole through Russia, across the US and on to European countries.

Hi Risa the evidence points to that. The cause in the northern hemisphere will be a climate effect called La Niña. If you Google it, it’s the same as what happened last year. And we are in a low point in the sun’s cycle too, less sun spots, less irradiation, more cooling 😊

A pellet stove is nice and clean burning as long as you don’t loose electricity.

Hello J P, personally I like the romance and independence of the wood-burning stove, it’s why we voted against the pellet stove for so long. We have a generator for outages if necessary but we would just use the wood burner 😊

I can’t even imagine living in a stone building with no heat. We don’t have buildings as old as Europe here in America, but I’ve lived in plenty of 100 year old drafty farmhouse and it was not fun!

It was a shock to the system Sara let me tell you. We had just moved from a newly renovated house (took us 6 years in UK) and had the works heating wise there, so it’s time to restore some comfort for the family ❤️

Hello Angela, we’re going to do a review in couple of weeks too. It’s a Firematic 11.6kw ductable stove. Pellets are around 3.80€ a 15kg bag. No hot water on this one as it’s just for room heat 👍

In the summer, how warm does it get inside the chateau?

The château starts to warm up again from March. In January and February we have some days in the 20s, but the nights can still get very cold. In March, usually the temperature fluctuations between night and day decrease, so that the château has a chance to start to retain heat again. Once spring is under way there’s usually no need for heating anymore. The temperatures in spring and summer inside the château are lovely, and even early autumn too. In summer when it’s hot outside it’s nice inside and is cooler when it’s needed 😊

Hello Troy, no it’s just to heat a few rooms that’s it. It’s only 11kw. If we decided to get a huge pellet boiler for instance to heat the whole château, the whole system would cost over 30,000€. But the main downside would be the running costs and also that we would be heating rooms we never even go near in winter. We use only around a third of the château in winter.
