If you know you are going to be drilling through thin metal with a hole saw, try this first. Get a scrap piece of wood larger than your hole. Maybe 3/4" thick. Plywood or solid, does not matter. Drill a hole. Remove the slug from the hole saw. Stick a pencil through the center hole in the slug and metal and use some drywall screws and attach to the siding or metal. Remove pencil. Drill your hole. The drill bit is really not necessary now and the slug is the exact inside diameter of the saw so no walking.

Code for venting anything is typically 3 feet off the ground. If you get drifting snow its going to block that vent that close to the ground.
@ChanyataFarm3 жыл бұрын
We so seldom get snows like that where I live it won’t be much of an issue, but you’re right
@MrAbsolutkaos Жыл бұрын
You could just have drilled from the out side in

Any horizontal run should have 1/4 inch upward slope per foot, not angled downward.
@duanecoursey74016 ай бұрын
It is bad advice to run a pellet stove straight out because if the electricity goes out and the pellet stove goes out, smoke will enter through the stove. If you have at least a three or 4 foot rise on the outside it eliminates that so a rise is necessary.
@jaybarnhart89202 жыл бұрын
You Need a horizontal rise outside about 3ft bud at least lol
@peterkasala20882 жыл бұрын
Should never have a drop horizontally through the wall. It should be level if not rise slightly. Should also have a minimum vertical rise of at least 3 ft preferably 5 ft to assist in venting before terminating vent. No cleanout??
@hubster44778 ай бұрын
Nope, horizontal vent is all you need.

Nice to see ,but please drill more horizontal then you did . And a lot higher output .

We have had no issues, it works like a champ. *Disclaimer- this is NOT the manufacturer’s recommended installation

Hello, if your getting a smoke smell in your house after first day of firing the stove up, what would your steps be to see where its coming from?
@ChanyataFarm2 жыл бұрын
The first thing I would try is right at initial start up of the stove, while the fire is still burning smokey, turn off the lights and shine a flashlight on all of your pipe joints and see if you see any smoke infiltration at the joints
@ChanyataFarm2 жыл бұрын
Do the same with the gasket around the door to make sure it isn’t leaking there either
@loganbradley8276 Жыл бұрын
What are you gonna do if you need to take apart the ventilation pipe? You used silicone wouldn't that make it hard to pull apart
@tomconnors63102 жыл бұрын
Love you shop. I find the outside vent is a bit low. Here in Ontario Canada the higher the vent the better to prevent snow blockage. Liked the video.

Isn’t going to need a clean out with a run like that And as stated in video it’s not an air tight space so no need for fresh air intake

@@hubster4477 You need a minimum 3 foot run up in case the power goes out. Without that run your house will fill with smoke if the power fails while the stove is running. Would not be fun. A horizontal termination like that will only work if the power doesn't fail.
@hubster44775 ай бұрын
@@harlandmct right, ive had the power go out a few times, there is smoke but its not that bad, not often and not bad enough to change things around. Someone burning popcorn is worse!

Yea 3' off tbe ground is code. Definitely a potential to be blocked by drifting snow.
@alcantrell5340 Жыл бұрын
What about the draft ? Stove won’t burn efficiently without a draft from the stove pipe, it needs at least 4/5’ vertical run. And no clean out? It will quit working from fly ash build up.
