A '4k' LCD doesn't always equate to a 4k quality image, it will depend very heavily on the lenses and their placement. I suspect a 4k LCD in this projector is outperformed by a cheap used 1080p projector, there's obvious flaws even seen in this video - such as dark and discoloured corners. Then there's colour, contrast(good projectors have extremely high contrast ratios, and even automatic irises and such), brightness, a 'washed out' appearance, black detail etc. It's a cool project, and done very well, but it's just very hard to get everything as good as a commercial projector, especially the light path.

@@DoubleMonoLR you are talking about DLP or LCD projectors that rely on another tech for image processing and thus their imaging is sharper. definitely R&D and tech is making its contribution. The video led is like the cheap led projectors in market, with some calculations and right lenses this is still doable.

That depends on the phone, many phone support USB OTG and HDMI to USB capture devices are under $10. There's plenty of other difficulties that make it hard to beat just buying a 2nd hand projector though.

@@diychen Presumably you mean with the battery removed, I don't think it would be safe to connect 4.2V directly to a battery, as I think that would likely be bypassing the protection circuitry.

You can see the optical flaws in the projected image, it inherently won't look as good as the original image, so 4k likely wouldn't make a big difference.

I'm trying to make one with an lg g3. What wattage did you run the xhp70 at? The xhp70.2 will output about 8,000 lumens at around 100w. It will put out about 9,000 lumens at 145w. It's not limited to the claimed max of 32w. You need good cooling to push it that hard.

No point, buy a used projector and it will be better. It's a cool project, but there's not really much point in practical terms.

Barely decent more likely, almost always better off buying a 2nd hand brand name projector instead. The only 'disadvantage' is that they don't use LEDs, but they're typically also much brighter, bulbs can last 1000s of hours and replacement bulbs are often pretty cheap. They won't usually have 'smart' features, but they're kind of pointless as the phone/laptop you use as a source can do that. Brand name projectors will have many more features, and features that help image quality.

The projector doesn't require any input as it works on the Android of the phone itself. Majority of tasks that you need on a projector can be fulfilled by android

@@grrkaa8450 Buy a used brand name projector instead, even if below 1080p it will likely be considerably better. 'real' 1080p also means nothing if the lenses and brightness etc aren't good enough. As seen in the video, despite a very good effort, there's obvious optical problems.
