I'm a building engineer and I find it really funny when people say "a wooden power rack will never hold up" and I ask them what their house is made out of and how long it has held up. Usually, they feel dumb. We build houses out of wood. Our roofs are held up by wood and not magic. That power rack is so overbuilt you could park a bus on it and it would hold. If anyone wants a good (overbuilt) power rack, this is the one to build!
@HaasGrotesk
@HaasGrotesk 3 жыл бұрын
@eric williams It scares you because you're not using logic. You are using feelings. No one cares about feelings because they don't determine if something is going to hold. Logic and science does. That fact that you say "no bodys slamming weight against your house 100 times a day. And houses take maintenance" shows that you don't have a basic understanding of what you are talking about. A house is constantly under stress, For example in areas where it snows you can have several extra tonnes of stress coming and going throughout several months and we haven't even started talking about what wind and temperature changes do. The small areas between the holes may "scare" you because you lack the understanding of how a structure works.
@HaasGrotesk
@HaasGrotesk 3 жыл бұрын
@eric williams What have I built today? A tunnel under a city. Can you do that? Didn't think so. You don't know what you are talking about. Wood rotting. Ever heard of treated timber? You're talking about 6x time strength this 5x strength that. This material that material. It doesn't matter. What matters is the geometry. And yes, I can weld, I can run a mill, I can run a CNC that's basic stuff. Doesn't impress anyone.
@lfzhu586

@Rude One Steel isn't necessarily better than wood. In a burning house, what is better? Wood or steel? You would say steel and you'd be wrong. But that's not the point. I honestly don't know what you are talking about because I never said wood was better than steel when it comes to a power rack. I simply said that the rack they built is overbuilt and will hold up no matter what you throw at it. So the point you are making is... Pointless.

What’s funny is that I’ve been looking up different power rack designs and this one is still one of the best out there. And now only to find that this still stands after years of use is all the more reason to finally build this one. Thanks for the video. I’ve been on the fence for a while for what to do.

The best piece of equipment I built was the BUFF dudes bench. Everyone is hiking up the prices since gyms closed on benches from $200 and up. I made mine for 40.00 from the HD "damaged or returns" bin and used an old mat for a cushion. I got a faux leather sheet from an upholstery that they didn't want anymore for free. Thanks a bunch Duke!

I'm surprised with some of the negative reviews. I was so impressed with the kzfaq.infoUgkxMwYg0MOXR4M-oGeyBsNSYe1aPOUoRH6D cage that I got the lat pulldown attachment that goes with it. It is equally outstanding. I don't have one complaint other than putting it together is a job. The instructions and packaging of the parts are very well designed and organized. Also, I stripped and damaged the pull down cable the first day, admitting it was my stupid fault, and they quickly replaced it at no charge. I'm 6'5, 280lbs and fit in the cage just fine. Glenn B

I really like the idea of a follow-up video as you wonder if some of these diy project builders have regrets or things they would have done differently. I also liked that test you did of your stand alone squat stands. It gives one more confidence in the builds as does how many others have built your designs, especially this rack. I really enjoy the diy stuff.

5:15 I'd think the dudes are not giving the rack enough credit there - 3 - 4 hunndo lbs? That's gotta be a gross underestimation. The 4 x 4's can handle a lot of load - probably easily over 1000 pounds even if you consider all the drilled holes and such. Perhaps the weakest link might be at the J-cups? Anyways, good to see it stand the test of times. When I buy my own house, I'll definitely look into building a rack of my own. Big ups!

DIY Duke, I just want you to know that back in 2016, my son and I saw your video on building the power rack. I won’t go into any details but my son could not go to the gym anymore during a time period. My wife and I love him so much and wanted to help him. He loved working out !! We undertook this build and in my area I had to use yellow pine. It worked fine. I didn’t have an electric drill so the holes were the biggest time drain with a cordless drill. It came out great and we added the cable system and pull down bar. It was a lifesaver and it still is going strong and as good as the day we built it !! God Bless You DIY Duke !!! You made a memory that will last forever !! When I show people the pictures they are amazed and always think it’s made out of steel.

Glad to see this is still holding up. I built one to put outside and it held up pretty well over the course of a year. The nice thing was I moved, had to take it apart, the new place was much smaller so I just converted it from a power rack to a squat stand using the same pieces just legoed differently. However, if I were to build it again, I'd use 2x4s or 2x6s doubled up instead of the posts. Most of the 4x4 posts in my neck of the woods are warped. They're also mostly heart wood, which isn't the strongest. I had to wrangle a lot of pieces into square. It's woodwork so you can't avoid that but there's at least a chance to make 2 ok 2x4s into a straight beam. With a 4x4 you got what you got. I also had a difficult time finding plumbing pieces that fit exactly the right length that the screws would hold the flanges at the right distance. So I used 2 8 inch straight pipes, epoxied them vertically into a double stacked 2x4. Kinda like a plug but side ways. And I 'plugged' that into the holes in the rack and just used an old clamp to hold it on. Very clunky, but very strong.
