I'm going to be as delicate as possible about this. My dads friend has a little bit of the shakes like Duke does, his hands shake a bit and his voice does too. My indolence aside, this channel has to be one of the best resources on YT for fitness enthusiasts looking to challenge and motivate themselves to do better and learn new skill sets related to their passion for fitness. Very grateful to have it. All the best to Buff Duke and his entire Buff family. Be well mate. :)

"Cheap" *chuckles in third world country*
@Sk0lzky
@Sk0lzky 3 жыл бұрын
It's actually still fairly obtainable in many "third world" countries (at least those that produce steel for domestic market ofc), it's definitely not cheap even in some developed countries but being able to make it for 20% (or even less) of the price of a cheapest olympic barbell around is a really good possibility. PS This one isn't exactly like the olympic one, you'd have to replace those couplings with ball bearings so sleeves can freely rotate - it's really good for your joints! If you wanted to make a simple barbell you literally need a steel rod, something to block playes from sliding down the shaft (anything, just make sure it's properly welded), grip tape (unless you can make the knurling yourself) and some thick wire for the collar (if you're only bench pressing/deadlifting/squatting and doing it solo tbh it's safer without them).
@DrewLSsix
@DrewLSsix 3 жыл бұрын
@@Sk0lzky lots of Olympic bars lack bearings, and most are bronze or similar rather than ball. I am interested in how the sleeves would hold up to the beating of iron plates though.
@Sk0lzky
@Sk0lzky 3 жыл бұрын
@@DrewLSsix yeah there's that alternative kind of connector but the point is to let plates rotate freely to reduce strain on joints during explosive movements - ball bearings are just the easiest way to do it imo

Tips for when Tapping the Holes Use a few drops of Tapping Oil before you begin by placing it on the tip of the Tap to smoothen the process Then as you proceed do 4 to 6 rotations clockwise then 2 to 3 counter clockwise to loosen up the burs that will begin to form while you're making the thread This same Tapping Oil can be used when Drilling as well to make it go by easier or quicker keeping both the work piece and the drill bit cool

Building it for fun would be interesting but if you're going to lift heavy weights with this you might wreck your joints as the bar doesn't roll. Normal bars are supposed to roll to minimize the torque you'd have to deal with otherwise.
@JamesPhillipsOfficial
@JamesPhillipsOfficial 3 жыл бұрын
@@FlyingUnosaur you don't "wreck your joints" with non rolling sleeves, it just increases the difficulty. You can buy strongman axle bar with non rolling sleeves and 450kg rating from strengthshop which is used at competition level, the athlete attempts to manually roll the bar up their chest and then straighten their posture when the bar is above the head locked out. So it helps to have decent grip in order to control the bar rolling/resist too much roll in the hands
@JamesPhillipsOfficial
@JamesPhillipsOfficial 3 жыл бұрын
@Patrick Bateman yes because companies have the proper machinery and steel hardening methods, no because to do it yourself is proof you don't need a company (helpful for when it's out of stock) and an achievement. I built 4 of my own sawhorses to use as a bed frame. They have lasted over 5 years, and i'm not a light person xD Yes it is easier to use a company, that's what money is for, but to do it for yourself makes it more special and customisable too ie if you want 18 inch sleeve length on a 7ft bar instead of 15 that is normally for sale, you can incorperate any features you want like that into the build. Yeah it's easier to buy stuff, but sometimes you can't get exactly what you want off the shelf, and you save money doing it yourself. Pros vs cons of buy vs DIY lol

Thank God!!! I've had multiple cold rolled steel bars for a while and have been using that as my barbell. This helps immensely! Thank you thank you thank you. So far I have been concrete plates, the full power rack, the bench and now the barbell

Thank you Buff Dad for the excellent video guide! Learning to weld & fabricate is definitely on my bucket list but, you inspired me to make things work. Managed to combine 2 pieces of equipment last night to make a pretty slick weight rack to attach to my power cage. No more plates all over the floor! Hope you're doing well and staying buff 😊
