Thank you thank you. For some reason I was sure there was a short rod connected to the right hand brake and I couldn't find it. My brother and I searched on my carport floor for an hour. I decided to watch this video and what do you know, that stiff spring is all that goes there. At 1:40 is the perfect shot. I know, next time take my own video.

I was really hoping not to have to drop the deck to do this, but I can’t stand the scraping sound anymore and of course I have a box full of socketS and none of them are 10 mm great video by the way hopefully I won’t have any parts left over when I put it back together

Nice video, You only changed one. Its like doing brakes on a car, You have to to do both sides while you got it a part. You got everything apart. Clean it up. All dirt & de Bree on the deck. Plus clean all bolts, parts & pieces. Add some Noalox or compatible to the bolts before reassembly. JMO or maybe just my way of doing things.

Thanks cuz I'm a dumb dumb again, and I didn't take pictures first. I figured it would be easy but I couldn't figure out exactly how the spring was set. This JD D100 has been quite the adventure, plenty of cursing and some blood but I've pretty much rebuilt the entire thing so far except the engine itself. Satisfying AF when it's been repaired and back on the turf again. Cheers.

The second brake now has a rod instead of the black heavy spring, and the rod to the other brake has an nut on the end of it, so it can be adjusted. Mine is like a 2011 D125, most of the linkage is pretty close to that. I see two parts that are different.

Great video. Thanks for posting. It was very helpful. PS......I just bought my S100 last week and I really like it. Cuts my cutting time in half from what it took me to do before. I have a wider cut and can cut at a much faster speed. Even though the engine on the S100 is much bigger than my old Craftsman Lawn Tractor, since this takes a wider cut and i can go faster, I actually use less fuel to cut my lawn. Barry

I think the brakes are frozen on my JD 125, I'm not familiar with how they should work. while sitting on the mower as a reference point the brake is against the left blade pulley and the right blade pulley spins free. this is with the mower off and not running , blades are disengaged. are the brake arms supposed to move freely away from the pulleys by hand? the springs are rusted and I can't budge the brake arms. I have some vibration when the blades are engaged, this is worse when the deck is raised for higher cutting level. I have replaced one spindle, both blades, belt to engage blades, both flat idler pulleys...any advise on this? Thanks

Some people just remove the breaks that is what I am going to do next time they wear out.
@martinrps13
@martinrps13 2 жыл бұрын
Vibrations are caused by bad pulleys or unbalanced blades. The reason it changes when you move the deck up and down leads me to believe it is a pulley issue. Turn off the engine! Lower deck to the half way setting and then engage the blade drive lever. Get down and look at how the pulleys all line up compared to how the main pulley is on the engine. From there you should see what is going on and what is possibly out of line. Can go further and remove spark plugs and physically turn the belt and watch them all as they move. Also take the belt off and spin pulley and spindles by hand to check for wear and noise. Any one that makes noise or doesn’t spin freely should be replaced.

What’s the function of that brake? My s110 with 40 hrs starts making a noise when i disengage the blades or when i turn off the engine. Looks like i might have to replace this brake.

Just stops the blades faster. I think when mine finally wears out again I’m just going to try taking it off and go without.
@gadasavideos8564

@DIYJIM I'll be doing that tomorrow. My neighbour is having issues . Deck belt comes off repeatedly , then burns up. Found that his brakes were not moving off the pulleys. Pad now worn down so much that the whole thing gets rotated by the pulley to the wrong side of the pulley into the belt. I'm hoping that I've fixed the belt issue by shortening his cable. It was same length as a new one but there was an inch of pay in the lever before cable moved. Other option was to cut off cable anchor on deck and replace with an adjustable one that they had on the L100.

100 series is too general. L100 deck and e100 decks are not the same. For e110 part supposedly is gy22309 . The e100 deck looks like your's . L100 has brake rod on right whereas e100 has spring like your's

7/16's Maybe 15/16's 7/8's? My D125 linkage is close too that, the one brake now has a linkage to it, and the other has a nut on it. The longer push pull linkage now has a round hole it dropps into, not a slot.

@@DIYJIM I think yours is newer than mine but my 2013 D130 has brake adjustments on both arms. Where you simply turned the long rod and removed it, the end of mine is threaded and held on with a nut. (same deal with the short arm of the other brake) According to the manual, the correct adjustment is a 2-3mm gap between the back of the nut and brake bracket. I guess removing the adjustment feature was either a cost-cutting move or just not necessary. BTW, thanks for posting this! I'm replacing both pads - on one of them, the entire bottom end of the pad is gone. I needed to do it last year but couldn't find any info about it or even a part number.
