Good video,and good timing. I am expanding my hunting grounds this year to public land around me and can use help pin-pointing good early locations.

Garret, thanks for the run & gun approach where u when need to take a #'s game approach just a couple of weeks later than the prime time of early sesson. When it comes to the October lull & hunting non agricultural areas I like 3 aspects. Hunt midday during the full moon. I've even seen red fox up & about in the midday during this time period. Deer seem to favor the lactic acid of newly fallen 🍁 leaves where I will hunt out an oak 🌳 in that area. The 3rd thing I look for is going to a place that is primarily a staging area of woods next to thick cover that might also be a place that might not produce during the early days of gun season in early November. If u look @ the full moon period in November just go back 22 to 28 days earlier back into October & u could score in an area like this. Quite a few guys have been able to score on bucks reacting to doe that are in a false heat that lasts 24 to 36 hours here in MN. It's more like a prelude to the real thing that is going to happen in November. However in October in that area u don't have the gun hunting pressure then & the doe don't act like they know they r in heat but the bucks pickup on some type of pheromones & can let their guard down for a very short time. Usually around the 15-20 traditionally. Hope this helps.

I’m going out on limb and saying with wi archery season opening earlier 9/12, this year and pheasant season opening over a month later 10/17, the October lull will be minimal. Usually by the second week of pheasant season the deer woods are on a major reset. This year that’s going to take us well into the prerut in south central wi. Of course I’m talking about public land hunting. Great informative video again and thanks for putting it together and sharing.

Great video. Would you say your preferred terrain type for the lull is marsh with generally more focused bedding locations and isolated food sources closer to bedding? That sure did seem to work well for dan and joe for the 1st public land challenge.
