I think average American Hip Hop knuckleheads just aren't very open minded. I was born and raised in the US and I've always loved Grime and can understand their rappers well. Always just looked at it like it was something different and I get to learn a little something about the game overseas over some futuristic sounding beats

Accents are a small piece of the bigger problem for Americans. They're simply ignorant to most cultures and countries outside of the US. I could name a few places in the world most Americans couldn't point to on a map. But, it's also because they are unquestionably the leaders in crafting pop culture and media, so it's like a kid being born rich not understanding or being as empathetic towards a poor one. Not completely their fault. The rest of the world however has been brought up to understand US culture as it's all we see in movies, music, and media. We don't have to work as hard to get them because we're force fed the American way of life. That being said I'm sorry to say, many Americans are simply not as intelligent as most of the worlds population (blame your government) which breeds an innate ignorance that translates to the rest of the world as 'Team America, fuck yeah!!' And many Americans unfortunately do nothing to disprove this notion.

They aren't used to it. Its like a Scottish artist making reggae, unless you listen to it all the time, it's gonna sound foreign unless you grew up on Scottish reggae

British Grime and Hip Hop artists need to stop trying to "break into America" and just focus on putting out good music and building an audience where there at. If the music is good you get more listeners across the globe look how K-Pop has so popular over the years.

The sound... IMO the American accent just sounds smoother then the UK accent when it comes to flowing on a beat.

It's the accent. That's it. If you don't have a neutral or regional US accent, it won't work. That's why Iggy sounds like Nicole Kidman in interviews and raps like Gangsta Boo in songs.

I think the problem is because americans are raised in a country akin to korea whereby they believe they are the only country that matters. Far from cultured or diverse. Sold a dream via the media by way of conditioning. They feel insecure by the thought of new things and act aggressively if you try introduce them to something new. They live only to recognise other cultures by stereotypes and are generally very narrow minded. I'm 16 in England and a big grime fan but there's an evolution of grime for my generation for example the type of grime we listen to and prefer is different to what what the original grime fans prefer for example guys I know that are like 19+ that listen to grime don't necessarily like the new stuff or the guys that are the face of grime at the moment.

European hip hop for the longest have taken to The US deep underground scene. The most basic elements of backpack etc. We haven't really seen it evolve. Most of it melding with electronic music. Didn't really fit into the American scene, especially during the reign of the South. Not until US hip hop stopped working about which region you were from and trading sounds, we started to tearing down boarders did Canada stand a chance at being more mainstream in hip hop via Drake. UK might get its turn but I doubt mainstream. Skepta is ringing in the streets with some people. Dizzy been making his way through the underground but I just think there is a language barrier a bit more advanced that a Guy Ritchie movie.

Huge MF DOOM fan, I got onto some UK rap. I think the problem isn't the accent because I loved 4 Owls ft Premier, I think the issue is UK often sounds like it's behind the game. At times it sounds like an emulation of 90's culture. Honestly I think it will be insanely difficult for a UK rapper to match the global appeal of an American rapper due to people thinking the authenticity of the music and culture comes from NY, or Dirty South or West Coast. But if someone were to just do commercial pop music like Drake, that could be the difference

I will say this though, they're trying to figure out why uk grime artists/rap artists haven't blown up like drake and i think the answer is obvious?? drake is more of an rnb artist, his music appeals to a much wider audience because its more inviting to more demographics. grime is just more underground and imo you have to have a real ear and passion for rap to understand the grime scene. i guarantee you will find people who dislike rap but like artists like drake, it wouldn't be the same the other way round innit

Hopping on every new artist that's popping. 2. Expanding his projects. (Deals with sprite, Endorsing the Raptors, beefing with Meek, and all the drama he has when it comes to the girls he's with like [Rihanna and Serena Williams] Drake is staying relevant. And he has also brought a new wave of artist from Toronto. At the end of the day its about business and businesses strive off of the connections you've made.

The thing is UK grime is as spiritually/ musically as akin to a black version of UK punk as it is hip hop. It's often pretty unsophisticated, demo -like stuff with rapping skills that often have limited variation / patterns within the grime rhythm patterns. Frankly, it's going to take a genuine star WITH a musical advancement on the typical grime formula to really break through!
