This band is amazing at story telling, honestly you need to sit down with everything to understand it all, their whole discography is a story

The song has a crazy story, the entire album is basically a revenge story between two brothers. There is a younger brother who is considered a bastard because he killed their father and the older brother is taking him to the train tracks to kill him , at the end the brother is able to pull the older brother's weight and use it against him to where instead of the younger brother dying it is the older brother. The song is through the perspective of the older brother, before he dies the older brother acknowledges the younger brother as family for the first time since their Father's murder, and the song ending abruptly is signifying that the train came and actually hit them or the older brother I'm not too sure lol

The reason why the file is another minute longer is because it signifies the classic minute of silence the hold for the death.

plus I thought he was killing his brother while he also takes his own life

I seem to recall the story is told by from the older brothers perspective and it cuts abruptly when he ends up reversed on the tracks and the train hits him. Love all their work, incredible story telling. This album deserves more listens!

Empty Days and Sleepless Nights is entirely from the older brother's perspective, and at the end of White Oak Doors he is indeed killed by the younger brother seizing a moment of opportunity and reversing the roles. The follow-up song to this would be Cowardice, off their first album

This is “Debts” from Defeater’s first album “Travels” but told from the elder brother’s perspective. The song cuts off because the older brother is hit and killed by the train mid-sentence.

Awesome reaction, I like how you tried to understand the song, the POV, the themes, etc. This is what a react should be lol. I hope you got into them more, every album is like a great novel!
