Get Up Stand Up “All of these things indicate that there’s a serious upswing in commercial or potential commercial activity, and patent filings always track those things pretty well,” says Dale Hunt, a patent attorney and CEO of Breeder’s Best, a cannabis consultation company. With cannabis, “some of the companies that amassed a meaningful portfolio of patents were great acquisition targets.” Patents, as Hunt points out, are a key part of making companies desirable to investors, particularly when an idea or industry is new. Funders want to see a startup secure intellectual property rights before they bankroll it-or at the very least will reward the acquisition of that IP. “We definitely saw that in cannabis,” Hunt says. “Some of the companies that amassed a meaningful portfolio of patents were great acquisition targets or were very investable and are the ones that are off to the races.”

Blue Moonshine was like Blueberry Pie Filling in the form of Cannabis. SMELLED just like Comstock and TASTED like Comstock. And I'm a retired Baker, so I KNOW blueberry pie filling. No whispers or hints of a Flavor, but real _SMACK YOU IN THE FACE_ levels of Scent and Flavor. Amazing! And when I compare THAT experience to what passes for 'scent' and 'flavor' delivered by the _hack_ varieties on the Market today, I want to nominate DJ Short [and, honestly, Breeder Steve for his Sweet Tooth #3 concoction that STYLIZED the Blueberry into an AMAZING celebration thereof] as ABSOLUTE LEGENDS in the world of Cannabis, as a whole. The OBVIOUS commitment to PERFECTION represented by their EPIC contributions, sets them so far apart from modern 'breeders'(🙄) that I see them, for the aforementioned Varieties they produced, as ARCHANGELS in the World of Selection. Jah Bless!

Hit it spot on. I ran it for about 5 years straight from 03-08 and had to give it up due to starting a family. I’m finally able to fire things back up and I’ve been hunting down Blue Moonshine for almost 2 years now lol. I have found a couple crosses of it but it’s been hell to find anyone that kept it around. I’ve seen it in a few seed shops over seas but they seem sketch. My last run I pollinated a Master Kush, Purple Wreck and a Blue Moonshine with a Blue Moonshine male. Kept those beans for a few years hoping something would fall into place where I could get things rolling again but it never happened 😕. Eventually handed them out to friends and guys that knew someone that wanted to grow but didn’t have good genetics. Wish I would have kept a few lol. But hopefully I’ll track it down here soon.

My good buddy went to Afghanistan in "73" with a dude from the BOEL named Kevin, on a hash run . While they were there they purchased some Kush seeds. We grew them out in "74" and renamed it Skunk due to it's heavy skunk smell. No "Sam the Skunkman" here..he,he,he ! Many of our buddies were busted due to the skunky smell, over the next few years, and I regret everyday that we did not preserve the seeds like we should have. Peace

I was fortunate enough to have smoked Blueberry in the late 90's and DJ Short was one of the first breeders I learned about who created their own strain. I have been involved in the industry one way or another since 1997 and I witnessed a lot of different strains come and go but real Blueberry(Kind bud) is one of the best strains I ever smoked. I see Blueberry today or Sour Diesel or Silver Haze and im like nope thats not it, I don't know who sold you that dream but I was smoking the real strains when I was 13, 14 yrs old, my parents smoked, I had a boy whose parents grew some fire Northern Lights back in 99. I smoked real Chocolate Thai. These genetics today are so diluted and crossed that if it wasn't for people like DJ Short you would never find a seed that actually came from the genetics it says it's derived from

Breeding is more enjoyable to me than smoking. Although I do love to smoke. But making unique things is crazy with this plant. F1 expressions are crazy fun, like a box of chocolates you never know what your gonna get.

how would you recommend someone to start breeding/seedmaking for personal use/hobby? Would you recommend I try get some 'worked landraces' like Aceseeds stuff and try get some very diverse genetics and cross the phenos I like to get hybrids with very distinct parents so hoping that they are more vigorous and better quality? Or you recommend collecting personal favorites (like triangle kush, headband, skunkva 91, double og chem...) and selecting the favorite phenos and sts for feminised and continue that path?
@poppinbeansdankstyle1255
@poppinbeansdankstyle1255 9 ай бұрын
Depends on what you are trying to accomplish. Are you wanting to breed for yourself for personal or trying to breed to sell to the market. I personally hate feminized seeds, won’t use them as I found to many lineage problems down the line f3, f4 range. But again that’s just my opinion. Others have great success with them. Again I’m just a hobby guy. I do it for enjoyment and creativity. This plant allows for some special things other plants don’t. Formulate a plan that’s specific to what you wanna do and execute it to the best of your abilities. Biggest take away for me from my 20 years doing it is patience is a virtue with this plant. Good luck, Happy growing.

Becareful getting into the strain game. They all come from very specific landraces. They are just cross bred to oblivion and renamed. As far as seeds go I’d check co ops and seed exchanges. IMO it’s where you are gonna find the best genetics from people who love the plant not making money.... unless your planning a trip to Afghanistan, Asia, or parts of Mexico. Lol. To hand select your beans.

This was great. I did find it interesting when he started speaking about his distaste for 'science' around 12:50. He describes how the method of testing thc percentages back then versus now partially explains why their numbers were so much lower back then. He explains that in his experience you get better expressions of phenotypes using 11/13 which aligns more with the environment in the tropics and how UV radiation could explain more genetic variety etc. He talks about how we are beginning to understand the entourage effect as we learn more about terpene interactions with cannabinoids. Even his studies on how F1s seem to average the two P1 parental attributes, but as you move to F2s you see more variety. Whether he realizes it, all of that is him learning using the scientific method. "How does science then and the parameters of science expand themselves to what we know to be true but cant be proven with science." That is exactly the point of the scientific method and what he is already doing. You don't have to, and really shouldn't, trust anything presented as fact and shouldn't acknowledge anything as what 'we know to be true'. People use deceptive math and research to 'prove' something they already thought, and most times want or expect, to be true. It's the reasons textbooks have new volumes and editions. Nothing is ever fact or provable or 'true'. Science is just a method to study consistencies and help explain anomalies. When he says people tell him certain strains help with various ailments, and that he doesn't need science to explain or prove or disprove why or how that works, that is his view and prerogative. That said, there are people that will say consuming large amounts of colloidal silver are healing them up to the point they turn blue and die from it. No need to do any research on it because some people say it works? You can give a recipe to make a cake to people around the globe and every cake will come out different. Finesse is understanding and controlling variables as they present themselves, which comes through both succeeding and, more importantly, failing. Over and over. He has done this and is an expert in the field. I just sort of feel how he defines what science is here misses the mark as he has been using it the whole time.
@tylery85
@tylery85 6 ай бұрын
Also interesting he speaks about Dutch Passion and how much money they made with Blueberry compared to what he made and how he's spoken with lawyers about it, then says it's fine because of IPR and his only issue is he has to field complaints about their seeds when he is no longer compensated for his genetics. He talks about the worry of the cannabis genome project showing his genes are part of the basis of many others' seed lines and that he worries about some large corp some day sending him a cease and desist for selling his own genetics because they are partially the same genetics in the corps seedline. Then goes to say how he can combat this by 'letting it all go, which is a no brainer' and that he has only released 40% of the genetics he has because he has been 'careful', how he has every flavor of Haze seed, which are now revered and marketable, and how he wants to let it all go. I guess I don't understand why he needs to both 'be careful' about releasing genetics at the same time he feels it would be best for him to do so. It seems he has contempt for the industry and how hard he worked to develop these genetics just for others to mess them up, which is a fair assessment. If he wants to hold on to his genetics to prevent that, that is fine. He is right that he is a legend in the industry and bigwigs creating inferior products from his work won't change that. If he wants to release all his genetics it would make him an even bigger legend, but will come at a cost to him, which I suspect is why it hasn't happened yet. Again, I am so grateful for the work he has done, the good times I've personally had because of his work, and how he furthered the industry at a time he could have been put away for doing so. Just seems like he isn't happy with how the industry evolved and is being cautious, which I wouldn;t blame him for.

The best way "to ruin" smoking pot, lol. When something like Blueberry came around and really raised the bar in a unique way for many. I'd like to think DJ Short has the best Blueberry, nowadays. I've heard it lacks the familiar smell, though..?! Some (like Subcool, RIP) used to say that the Best Blueberry he ever smoked, was the Blue McGoo clone only (Blueberry x Big League Chew (Williams Wonder F2). I've always wanted to try Dynasty Genetics Blue McGoo back cross 2-3X using their Blue Heron. Used to be $25/pack years back. Now, over $100 per pack,.?! Interestingly, Dynasty was one of the breeders complaining about DJ Shorts prices being too high, several years ago. I've never seen DJ Short charging prices, that were too expensive..?! I've heard of some really high ones, but probably through an Auction..?! Always freebies at DC Seed Exchange. Including from DJ Short, when purchasing his gear! Great history covering one of the greatest varieties. It's not going anywhere! 👍💯🙏✌️

@@timturk1899 I've got a Blue Magoo bx2 from Dynasty that I'm collecting pollen from atm. Glad I cloned it. I picked it out of two dozen males of different things I kept it, and 4 others. Star Stomper, The Chosen One, and GG4(Sour D. x Chem D ibl), and BOG Bubble x Shineapple. The Blue Magoo is frosty as all hell, and reeks like Blueberry, and Williams Wonder for sure. Sweat blueberry bubblegum, and Thai woodsy notes with the hard to nail WW forest smell. It was just in the air as I walked by this 24 inch tiny thing that has few balls, but frost on everything, and just reeks loud as hell lol I'm also growing WW f4's atm as well about to use the BM male on the Willy's frostitute I found. Gonna be neat.

In the 90’s in the Boston area we got ahold of the Humboldt blueberry twice. It smelled like a field of ripe blueberries when the bag opened and tasted like the best blueberry you ever ate when you smoked it. The high was euphoric. I have the DJ Short Blueberry seeds but it just doesn’t seem the same. My favourite sativa of all time is Dr. Grinspoon. It energized me in a way I cannot express. Cool interview!

it was only good because everything else was bad brick weed or icky "homegrow" before everyone know how to actually grow their own flower. honestly blueberry wasnt even great back then; it was just better than the vast majority of what was available. once the mid00s hit blueberry was so far off my radar because all these new polyhybrids were blowing these old strains out of the water. in taste, in yield, in terps, pretty much every imaginable way. blueberry is possibly the most overhyped strain of any strain that ever existed. it is the top tier of overhype

25:29 This is what Purple City Genetics from Oakland Ca are doing with their ElKrem line of genetics. Every strain they created is washing at least 5% fresh frozen and high terpenes. The Moroccan Peaches is amazing! The hash is unbelievable, they used a Santa Barbra Peach that’s an older variety. This guy is definitely a pioneer!!!

Also was a kid strapped down for nitrous oxide 4 times a year from a children’s dentist starting at a very early age. The local news wanted to interview me once, and asked me what I liked most about the children’s dentist office…. I was still coming down and I just excitedly told them it was the gas! The looked horrified and literally walked out of the room. I’m screaming at them to come back! When am I gonna be in the paper! Lmfao.
