With Serato Play (free throughout May 2020), and Serato DJ Pro (which you can also use for laptop DJing for free), you can learn to DJ with just your laptop easily and quickly. In this extended lesson, I talk you through the steps from downloading the software to being able to actually DJ with it!

This is a really great and clear series, however consider going more in depth on the smart sync feature as it is very fast to turn itself off and can be frustrating to figure out. In particular the next video in the series is a fantastic example of the powerful tools you can use to mix tracks, but you do it with simple sync in a nice display of timing and track manipulation (which does seem like a better way to do it long term due to all of the turning on an off of the smart sync) which is confusing as I at first thought it was on based on your recommendations. I understand that this is just a primer to get one going, and it has got me back in after 15 years so it is working! Thank you for your time.

Ok. Need your help. I am not using a splitter cable just the headphones. Why am I not getting any sound? However, I do get sound from the laptop when listening to other things like youtube.🤷🏼♂️

Thanks for replying, I managed to get the traktor DJ cable from eBay however my sound card has 2 headphone inputs and a mic input and what ever I do I end up with stereo??? On a different laptop with one input it works perfectly any suggestions 🤔🧐

Great tutorial, exactly what I was looking for but how can we activate the MIDI button. To make it perfect I would like to expose some of the functionality to a simple MIDI controller. I subscribed even for 1 month Serato Pro but I am not getting it to work.

This won't work with a controller but it should if you have a Serato Pro license active that you're paying for - which controller are you trying to get it working with?

@@digitaldjtips I thought this as well but unfortunately its not working for me with an active 1 month Serato DJ Pro subscription. What I am trying is to connect my ROLI Blocks and ortho remote. I like minimalist things and I think this combination would make a lot of fun to play with. A pro DJ controller would be overkill for me.

Hie Phil sir , i tried it's good but one thing if we play 6/8 song (like indian dhol music, band song,) it's bpm decreases in serato & sound's slow in serato than the normal song... Please clear my doubt if we hav any setting...

Serato is set up for 4/4 music, so you cannot rely on the beatgrids for other time signatures.

No, Serato Play does not let you use headphones cueing (at least, that';s how I remember it).

I already use SERATO PRO DJ. and I’m using a mix track pro II (I didn’t update ‘cause I would lose the Pro subscription & be downgraded to SERATO LITE) will I lose my Mixtrack Pro 2 mapping if I install PLAY & at a later stage use my controller for when I Dj?

Hi, thankyou for this. Quick tech question if I may? I have downloaded this software and am enjoying it. So I have been playing around getting my old CDJ1000 Mk2's, FL Studio, DJM 600 and my Stanton T.120s all running through a Steinberg ur22 for playing thru OBS for live and M Audio BXB D3's for monitoring. Until I buy a pair of modern players this set up is currently giving me very high quality stereo sound through both the speakers and the monitors. Your recommendation to download the Serato Software gave me a great thing, the ability to finally play my WAV collection from a modern library and be able to see key and bpm and arrange crates..thankyou. My question is this...is it possible to somehow integrate headphones for cueing into this basic Serato djing setup, so I can DJ properly on the software directly on my laptop, without having to mess with all the cables and still get high quality stereo sound, or is it a simple split mono that is the only way? When I plug the headphones in to the laptop and select headphone split it obviously cuts one of my speakers off. I have thought about routing the software to the mixer or doing something with the settings on the laptop but I can't get my head around it and don't want to compromise the high quality sound I have managed to achieve with how my stuff is set up at the moment. I think I already know the answer but I thought I would ask anyway. Many thanks in advance. Chris.

It sounds to me like you do not have the Expansion Pack activated. Check it is ticked in the Settings.

Three years since this video was posted and the saddest thing is that Serato decided to bundle or its expansion packs on big package, leaving no chance to beginner DJ to get Serato Play to mix using the keyboard. 😢

Hi there. Thanks for the video. My hot cue function for the crossfader doesn't work (left and right arrow). I also have to activate my TAB key on the keyboard to get the others hot cues in Serato Play working. (I'm using a MacBook Pro with a german keyboard) Any idea how to solve the problem?
