The headgear that the slaves wore, were mainly used during when they were being sold, because it prevented them from biting slave owners, their families, and the handlers during the selling process. During filming, Leonardo Di Caprio had such a hard time getting into character, and being that cruel, that he couldn’t do the scenes until he talked to Samuel L. Jackson and Jamie Foxx. They’ve said that they discussed that is was okay, that it was just part of his character, and basically gave Leo permission to treat them like he did in the movie.

Leo put on the performance of a lifetime, spectacular every time. Samuel L Jackson nailed the sell out Stephen character with his nosy meddling. Fortunately "mandingo fighting" wasn't a historical practice and probably didn't occur in the way Tarentino portrayed. Great film, so moving with everyone playing their parts to perfection.

23:37 I think it was a mistake for Dr. Schultz to bring Django along with him to Candieland. The _actual_ purpose of the visit was to liberate _Broomhilda,_ his _wife._ The plan ended up being _exposed_ because she _recognized_ her husband and Stephen picked _up_ on that. I think Dr. Schultz could've liberated Broomhilda _much_ more effectively if he and Django had just agreed to have Django _wait_ somewhere until they came _out,_ together.

I’ve always found it fascinating when actors act in movies like this. For example Leonardo decaprio playing the role of that guy is amazing. It’s one thing to ply jack in titanic (which is also very well acted) but to play a slave owner and say the words he says and demeaning things he does is amazing acting.

Hey Emma a little known fact Leonardo DiCaprio really did cut his hand and was really bleeding in that scene,,,,,,,,,Leonardo DiCaprio badly cut his hand. while filming a pivotal scene in django Unchained. toward the end of the movie, during the dinner scene, DiCaprio unintentionally. breaks a glass cup after slamming his hand on a table, causing it to immediately start bleeding 😯😯
@candvdz9618

When Leo cut his hand during the scene where they got found out, he actually cut his hand when he slammed it on the table, that wasn’t planned. So the reaction from the actress is quite genuine.

27:42 Emma, I need to interject, you are not looking at this film from the correct understanding regarding this woman "looking fancy". the psychology of slavery and the context behind the positions that black people took is what you need to take from this film, and Tarantino summed it perfectly. This woman is (what we black people call) The Bedwench figure. A slave master if he desires, chooses the prettiest slave from his stable and ELEVATES her above the rest to the position of the woman he sleeps with, wines dines and dresses up fancy. This is one element of what produced the mulatto child (mixed raced) child on the ranch, in slavery times. She isn't scared at all because she thinks she's more important than the rest, she believes she is exclusive, a one off! and will also treat the slaves as beneath her. So you were either in the field doing hard labour or you were brought into the house where you had some extra privileges but it mentally twisted your mind against your own people. Stephen, the turncoat you had black Manmy character's (females who cooked and served Calvin) and then the Bedwench. plantation owners also indulged in betting with other plantation owners one who had the strongest buck (black man) so they created what's known as 'buck fighting' a which was to the death.

32:30 the moment Stephen (the turncoat) played by Samuel L Jackson sees another black man on a horse, look at the hate and disgust on his face for another black man he doesn't know from Adam. As I said, the psychology of being on the plantation, a black man with a little privilege seeing another black man with even more privilege💥 Stephen loved Calvin more than anybody else who looked like him on that plantation. Stockholm syndrome is a real thing.

Tarantino's genius as a director and script-writer demands that his actors bring their A-game when they work for him. MIx these together and you have an instant classic - in fact nine of them. Unfortunately for us, he has said there will be only one more. For a different type of comedy, try Young Frankenstein and Hot Fizz.
